It’s a joke. Never anything for those who actually contribute in the majority to society through taxes.

Cant even get a dentist appointment !

Swap you - 24/7 caring for a disabled child for your ability to work in a job that means you can “contribute”

dont worry you will be paid a whole £67 a week for the privilege!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/05/2022 20:28

Thank you, @saraclara .

RaspberryToo · 26/05/2022 20:28

@Zeus44 I contribute to taxes thank you very much even though I am on benefits; many do. Council Tax, Road Tax, and tax on taxable benefits.

People who are earning and get UC still pay tax on their income.

'
Who the chuff is paying £2800 for energy. What the hell are people heating.🤔😂
We pay about £100 a month for electricity, and £35 a month for gas PAYG-4 story cottage. Family of 4, with partial work from home.

My room stat says it's 20.8c in winter the house never drops below 16c.'

This may amaze you, but not everyone's home is the same as yours.

Andromachehadabadday · 26/05/2022 20:31

I didn’t need my £150. I out it in the meters of my friend who is a single parent to a disabled child.

I regularly give and help out at food bank. My employer supports one and each employee is given 2 days a year to help out.

I just spoke to my dad to tell him what he will probably get. He doesn’t need it, but he made some suggestions about where he could help others with.

Just like when mum died in December, and we found a ton of clothes with labels still on, we took them to a womens refuge.

However, neither of us feel the need to post on Facebook about it. I don’t really talk about it. Neither does dad. We just do it. I wouldn’t even post here about it, unless it was relevant.

Just because people don’t talk about it, doesn’t mean they don’t do it.

You also pay VAT on many things...including electricity and fuel.

And this just shows - people don't want £400 off their energy - they want £400 to spend as they wish. And they call us freeloaders....

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/05/2022 20:34

Dr Brenner - i think if you are disabled and in receipt of PIP, DLA or other disability-related benefits then you will get a one-off £150 payment into your bank as well as the £400 credited to your Energy Account.

I'm not childless but a single-parent with one adult disabled child who receives PIP and basic under-25 UC. He will receive the £150 one-off payment and the energy bill I pay will have the £400 credit.

I could complain (and have already about unpaid Carers being ignored) but really, the payments are pretty good, once every household has received a minimum £400.

Hold the champagne, @BensonStabler - i dont think i phrased the court case outcome very well🤦‍♀️
The DWP/govt won the case, meaning they don't have to apply the £20 uplift to legacy benefit claimants. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news 🙁

Personally, I think the payment to pensioners shouldn’t be a blanket one. Many pensioners are very well off, and don’t need this really. It should be means-tested.

I know 3 comfortably off pensioners who always donate their winter fuel allowance to the local food bank.
I would cost too much money to make it means tested and check everyone's eligibility

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/05/2022 20:46

@PaddingtonBearStareAgain from what I can see from the ons there are about 20% of pensioners with pensions averaging £36 per year.

Over 1million Uk pensioners have homes worth more than £1m (& that was in 2014 so must be much higher now).

Giving them an extra £600 handout is a total waste and basically vote buying.

pattish · 26/05/2022 20:48

I’m a bit confused about pensioners - they will ALL get the £300 (non-means tested). So even the rich baby boomers (of whom there are a lot)?

Seems very unfair, just like the Winter Fuel Allowance. This should be means tested to help pensioners on a low income rather than all pensioners. It’s so unfair.

Zeus44 · 26/05/2022 20:49

Doesn’t mean you should get the same amount out whilst those who put in a lot more get zero.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 26/05/2022 20:49

FourTeaFallOut · 26/05/2022 20:25

Why aren't you getting the universal £400?

Perhaps cunts aren't eligible

EVERYONE is getting the £400.

personally I would rather judgemental idiots didn’t get even that but it’s not my choice

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/05/2022 20:53

@Sugarplumfairy65 the average 65 year old has 9 times more wealth than the average 30-34 year old.

Based on that a blanket payment to all pensioners is absurd.

There's a minimum income pension payment that is already administered, focus the money on that if you want to help pensioners in poverty.

But it's a disgrace that the million pensioners with assets worth more than £1m are going to get £700.

Some might give it away, good for them but most will probably use it for nice little extras. Maybe a weekend away or something.

This will fuel inflation even more and make the cost of living crisis even worse.

Padding the wallets of the older rich is good politics for Tories but morally and economically bankrupt.

LogOutLogIn · 26/05/2022 20:54

Pensioners with a high pension do pay income tax. So whoever’s DF gets a £100k income, he is paying into the system as much as someone earning it. If you earn a lot less from your pension income you can be exempt (as would anyone on a low income) or pay accordingly less income tax. We want people with high incomes in old age as we want the money their shares generate. Some of these pensioners will
have money in Shell. Let’s tax that money with the windfall and through dividend tax. It’s a good thing.

Grotbag81 · 26/05/2022 20:56

Just to point out the extra £150 for the disabled is to cover people on pip who are no longer eligible for the warm home discount scheme, which changed this year.

So anyone in receipt of pip will no longer be entitled to the warm home discount from 2022/23.
