For those who just miss out there is a discretionary fund that you will possibly be able to access via your local council.

On the whole it’s too little too late but it’s a start and as someone has said above iys not the fault of the people who are entitled to things that others don’t get it.

What happens if an energy bill for the 6 months is less than 400 pounds? Do the utilities companies just keep the remaining part that isn't spent or will it be credit for the rest of the year.

It's a credit against your account.

How on earth would anyone spend less than £70 over the winter months at these rates?

I have an12 bedroomed mansion in Herefordshire so £400 is hardly going to cut it. And my bank accounts are in the Bahamas and BVI which they don't know about so it looks as if I'm not going to get the £400 after all. Rats cocks!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/05/2022 15:06

I can't get that excited about it, because I'm only getting that 200 (now 400) that I won't really get because it will be given to the energy company instead. I mean, I suppose it's better than a kick up the arse.

Why do you imagine you’re not getting it ? It’s being deducted from your energy bill, so yes, much better than a kick up the arse !!

ShelbyNotes · 26/05/2022 15:59

Thankful I found this post, I found myself getting wound up earlier as I felt annoyed that as a tight household we were "just" getting the £400... this thread has dragged me back down to earth.. I have a lot to be grateful for and the £400 will help and I can make everything else work where others can't...
These posts can do some good and the facts and figures people have posted really do make you give your head a wobble! Thank you all, education on the subject and listening really is key

Have you thought about throwing in the towel at the unfairness of it all and giving up work?😁

Don’t worry you can use some of the money you will get towards your empty homes in the county towards the bills.

So have increased heating/electricity costs with no option to return to the office full time? You only get about £18 a week though. That's hardly going to off-set extra energy usage sitting at home for two or three days a week.

Manekinek0 · 26/05/2022 16:02

We definitely don't need it and will look at donating. I hope others will do the same.

Its a shame that many are having a moan because people are getting more than them. It is a small amount of money, it won't cover much expenditure. The pp who said about giving up work, you're pathetic.

Sortilege · 26/05/2022 16:02

BensonStabler · 26/05/2022 14:25

They’re still not helping so many of the MOST VULNERABLE AND POOR.

The £400 energy discount for every household will be gotten directly from the energy companies. There is no mention of how this will apply to poor homes that have meters with key card top ups.

The £650 payments (There are two of these so total of £1300 - one in July and other in August i believe)

I am an extremely disappointed person who had to permanently give up work due to a progressive neurological disease similar to Parkinson’s, MS, ALS, and I only receive no means tested benefits of PIP and ESA. I will not be eligible for this as I am not on the qualifying benefit type.

At best I will get the extra one off £150 Disability Payment. While some disabled people who receive these particular qualifying benefits will receive both the two £650 payments AND the £150 payment. Which is Great for them, but as usual they are not helping ALL Disabled people who are in the poor income bracket, and are the most vulnerable. Disabled people often have many additional costs to help them with mobility, and care. Many energy eating machines and devices in their homes for example.

They also did this during the pandemic, people on means tested benefits received an extra £20 a week for 18 months, and excluded the people on PIP and ESA. Certain people went to court over this to try to prove the government is discrimination against disabled people and try to get these as backdated payments. I am not sure of the outcome of that just yet, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

We are struggling so much and this feels so unfair AGAIN, I could cry.

You’re mistaken on quite a few points @BensonStabler

There are mechanisms for getting account credit to people on prepayment meters. Often vouchers, codes or automatic credit but someone can be sent out to manually apply credit if necessary.

The £650 payment is SPLIT across two payments, not paid twice. So £650, not £1300.

Neither PIP not DLA are means tested, so you should apply urgently. On your description, and depending on your actual needs, you might well qualify.

Rosscameasdoody · 26/05/2022 16:03

ClaudineClare · 26/05/2022 15:43

Those who are resentful and envious of the payments others will be entitled to, maybe direct your ire to where it should be aimed?

The Tories brought in austerity, destroyed public services, drove down wages and eroded worker's rights. It is their raison d'être to keep ordinary people down while increasing the riches of the wealthy and privileged. Always has been, always will be.

Turning on your fellow citizens instead of Tories is EXACTLY what the Tories want. It is their wet dream.

This. All day long.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/05/2022 16:04

Why do you imagine you’re not getting it ? It’s being deducted from your energy bill, so yes, much better than a kick up the arse !!

My bills will still go up, and I am under no illusion that we won't all be paying for this, so as far as I'm concerned it's like someone saying "I was about to punch you in the face twice, but now you're only going to get punched once. But you owe me." I just can't look on any of it with much excitement.

RaspberryToo · 26/05/2022 16:04

@FourTeaFallOut --

Our prediction for the entire year is less than 400 at the moment. We are insanely careful for environmental reasons and our house is naturally warm (south facing) and very well insulated.

fatfrenchprick · 26/05/2022 16:04

I haven't paid my council tax for 2 months due to the rise is everything else, I'm literally in the red. This cannot come soon enough

RaspberryToo · 26/05/2022 16:05

There is zero point in applying now - it's based on whether you had applied by yesterday.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/05/2022 16:05

I haven't RTFT, I get work and child tax credits, will I get the £650?

BadNomad · 26/05/2022 16:06

Is this just for England or is it for all of the UK?

FourTeaFallOut · 26/05/2022 16:06

The standing charges alone with account for about £150, leaving £250 for actual energy - how insanely carful can you be?

Foolsrule · 26/05/2022 16:07

Ha! £400 might cover our increase in outgoings for a month!

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 16:08

Vat hasn't been cut on fuel.
One brexit promise they have yet to keep
Plus the money will sit in an account earning interest for the energy companies.
I'm honestly not moaning about it though before I get flamed
I doubt we will get anything next year so make the most and I'll still be frugal with the heating as 400 won't go that far in the winter time.

Rosscameasdoody · 26/05/2022 16:09

Sirzy · 26/05/2022 15:11

Dla is mainly a child’s benefit now so it seems it is for anyone. Contact for children the disabled childrens chairty certainly seem to think so

DLA is not just paid to children under 16. Those people who were 64 in 2013, when PIP replaced DLA for working age disabled people, remained on DLA for as long as they were continuously eligible. Pension age people cannot claim either DLA or PIP as a new claim - for them it’s Attendance Allowance, which does not include a mobility component.

PurpleButterflyWings · 26/05/2022 15:49

@LadyCatStark

I’m sick to death of being the ones that just miss out on everything. We will be cold and hungry this winter. I won’t be able to afford the fuel to get me to my 2 jobs to pay for all these bills. Yet all we ever get is more and more taken off us.

Most people have been in this position at some time in their life, not just you. Stop being so resentful and angry just because people struggling financially on benefits, pensions, disability allowances etc, are being given some help. And why have you got 2 jobs? Someone on benefits could have one of them. You seem to be resentful and angry towards people on benefits, and yet you are hogging TWO bloody jobs! Hmm

I’d be much more than happy to give one of them to someone who wants it and be able to afford to eat without it 😂😂😂
