Lighthearted - do you think school will be open tomorrow?

Much argument here this morning, DS thinks school is off tomorrow as the online term dates show it as a BH, as the BH has moved to next week I would expect school to be open (there are other inset days coming up).

I’ve emailed school to check and I’ll be gone anyway but what would you expect?

Oh hang on....you said it's in the school calendar as a day off.
So I don't understand your issue. They put it in the calendar. Do they always remind you when it's the regular inset days?

Yep, most of our local schools have used the extra day to add an additional day to the school holidays, as it makes more sense than a random day off.

Whinge Random days off are better IMO. DCs school usually do this for one of their INSET days each year anyway. It means you can visit places when they are less crowded or cheaper. We have used ours to go to the National Space Centre before, and this year we'll be going to a theme park. Last year we visited a huge splash park that is always rammed on weekends and during the school hols - it was boiling hot and sunny but very quiet with just a handful of toddlers in the fountain part. DCs had the wading pools completely to themselves. I would feel rather short changed if they did this during Nov or Oct like some PPs' schools though!

There's already another thread about teachers getting the extra Bank Holiday. I don't know why it upsets people.

I am not upset in the slightest, just the way it’s down in the bank holiday section of the term days is misleading without explanation that it’s in lieu. As they don’t mention next weeks bank holidays at all. And the fact that have sent out no comms about it at all and even their weekly email didn’t mention it

Well, they needed to be more clear and ensure parents and carers are fully informed.
I'm glad you don't begrudge teachers an extra day!

Dd is off tomorrow
Also next Thursday & Friday.

Cherrysoup · 26/05/2022 18:28

Our school has moved the extra day to the end of term. Seems sensible.

sidsgranny · 26/05/2022 18:32

Surely all secondary schools are open tomorrow? There are GCSE's scheduled and they all need to be taken on the same day countrywide.

You're right, they're all open. They're (usually) taking the extra bank holiday at the end of the summer term.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 26/05/2022 19:01

No students taking GCSEs hence the security being able to shut, last time they’ll be able to as they’ll have Year 11s next year

Our school is closed tomorrow.

There are supposed be 195 school days... 194 this year

That includes the 5 Inset days. So 190 days open for pupils or 189 on a year with an extra BHol.

I meant the schools in my area, sorry for not being more specific! North Lanarkshire

Our schools are the same in my area, East Ren. I've always liked the May long weekend.
