@ScrollingLeaves seems the Ukrainian officials are expecting to lose this one by the snippets on Twitter.

it's unbearable.

Ijsbear · 26/05/2022 16:55

about that visit to the wounded soldier in hospital.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime
Orban winning the elections in Hungary nailed his colours to the mast saying that “he won with Zelensky”. Go figure.

Polish president Duda is a puppet of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of so called Law and Justice party famous for their corruption and traditional view of woman as an incubator with no rights whatsoever. There was a nation wide speculation about presidential elections 2020 being falsified. If Rafal Trzaskowski (present mayor of Warsaw) had won, all government would be in a shit creek.

They (Law and Justice) see EU as a threat to their identity purely because things were going in Poland the same as in Russia- eradicating the rights of citizens and changing juridical system to suit them- that’s why EU blocked the funds to Poland saying that they were in conflict with EU rules.

Russian influence in Poland is quite big despite the government denials.

Poland took most of Ukrainian refugees. Not sure what the estimates are but over 2.5 million of people were allocated in Poland with another million in transit.
Polish government did FUCK ALL to help all these displaced people despite demanding money from UE for the refugees. All help came from local authorities,volunteers and Polish citizens.

There was quite a loud outcry from Poland to UE to not to give money to the government as it would be squandered by them.

I’m Polish so AMA if you want.

Germany has certainly been having issues over whether to help, how to help and the pace of doing so. Lithuania, on the other hand...

Oh, just do a search on Andrius Tapinas and today's drive to raise 5 million Euros for a Bayraktar. It has reached nearly 2m. I donated. They are doing bank transfer and paypal.

The level of personal donations from Lithuania (over half the population had made donations in March) privately and through the government has been commendable.

Thanks for that. Just donated.
It would be great if similar campaigns took off in other countries.

@DesdamonasHandkerchief agree with every word. I just don’t see how we can sit back and watch this disaster unfold. The west need to consolidate and let Putin know that they will send ships, entirely peacefully, to rescue the grain and distribute it to prevent mass starvation. Should anything happen to those ships or any of their crew, Russia will face untold consequences.

We can’t keep appeasing this bully, it’s unconscionable that, in addition to letting Russians rape, torture and kill innocent people in Ukraine there’s also the prospect of mass starvation in many quarters of the world, which the Russians have cashed in on already. If he threatens nuclear, so what, it’s old news now. He wouldn’t wear bullet proof vests and sit alone at a massive table if he didn’t value his life.

katem98 · 26/05/2022 18:56

@dibly Very good last point. I've never really thought of it that way.

MagicFox · 26/05/2022 19:08

If he threatens nuclear, so what, it’s old news now

Come on, we still can't get complacent about these threats.

I am glad my post last night gave readers on here a little comfort.

It's crunch time for Sievierodonetsk and it sounds like Russia may win. It's not crunch time for the war - which Russia has already lost. The regroup and retrenchment to the east basically admits they can't take Kiev and this is army making the best of the circumstances on offer. On top of that, as other posters has noted, the supply crunch is starting to bite. I don't think time is on Russia's side, here.

Everyone is focused on the possibility that Russia will take what they can, grab some kind of ceasefire and regroup. However...the reverse is also true. Ukraine as an entity is still in place with a functioning Government, army, allies and embassies from abroad. It's got weapons, cash and artillery flowing in - not as quickly as Russia, but it's happening. Ukraine can regroup, wait and attack again. After the horrors of Mauripol and the forced conscription in Donbas, do we really think that the people living there will be happy to submit to Russia rule? It will be Northern Ireland on steroids.

katem98 · 26/05/2022 19:25

@TheABC I forgot to say, was distracted with work this morning but I really needed to read your post last night. It was SO comforting and really uplifting actually. So thank you for that Smile

TheABC · 26/05/2022 19:26

Realistically, if we (global "we") wanted to unblock the Black Sea, we need to get a country with a large navy on-board who is not the USA. China or Egypt spring to mind as both import large quantities of grain (in fact, I have been wondering if Putin's food grab might be destined for China as a way to keep that neighbour happy).

In putting together a merchant fleet to escort the grain ships, surely the Scheherazade and others of it's ilk could be utilised.

Russia has been moving Iskander systems to Belarus's western Brest region

This could pave the way for intensified Russian strikes on western Ukraine, especially in Lviv

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 26/05/2022 20:44

Good point. And any others he wants to persuade/keep happy.

notimagain · 26/05/2022 20:51

@Hillsmakeyoustrong

That intelligence source you quote has produced an interesting target set and it's very kind of them to give the precise lat/long of what appears to be (Google Earth) facilities exactly as advertised, for example a couple of them look like electrical substations possibly associated with the railway system

Any thoughts/ideas as to why the source has revealed that level of detail in an open source document?

I have to admit it's all a bit odd to my eyes and I can only speculate it's been done because the Ukrainian int people assume the Russians already have the details and so the list has been published to give local civilian population a heads up.

(For those that aren't aware FWIW you can C&P latitude and longitudes from text into the search function of Google earth and it will fly you to the overhead of that position)

ScrollingLeaves · 26/05/2022 21:15

@Hillsmakeyoustrong · Today 19:43
Hi all, I'm still reading just been too busy to write. Certainly the reports I'm hearing from contacts (volunteers) in Kharkiv and Odessa is that it's hard. My contact in Odessa has had the following warning, huge scale attacks expected imminently.

Within 2-3 days, be sure to respond to signals of "missile danger", "air alarm".
(Entering the dugout, storage, etc.).

A massive missile is expected.

Tomorrow at 4.00 a full-scale offensive is possible.
On the Belarusian side, the DRG will advance up to 15-20 km to distract our troops.
Missile and air strikes will be carried out throughout the country, bases, railway stations, critical infrastructure.
The main effort is east-south.

Citing a reliable source, intelligence partners say that in the coming days, Russian troops are considering launching missile strikes on the following targets:

military facilities near Kryvyi Rih (47.884722 33.247778) and KREMENCHUG (49.096111, 33.430556);

industrial production areas in the DNIPR (48.436667, 34.986111) and KHARKOV (49.956667, 36.273611);

buildings in VILNOANDRIYIVKA (47.966389 35.139167);

electrical infrastructure facilities in:

LYSYNYCHI (49.847222, 24.12333333);

LVIV (49.865278, 23.949444 and 49.829722, 23.945);

RED (49.9175, 24.633056);

ZHMERINKA (49.0325, 28.071389);

ZDOLBUNIV (50.504444, 26.272778);

KOROSTEN (50.8775, 28.593889);

ZHYTOMYR (50.291111, 28.7);

KOZYATIN (49.690278, 28.900278);

VINNITSA (49.159444, 28.491389);

BORSCHI (47.830278, 29.514444).

So while Ukraine is still being smashed to a pulp in the East, Russia will bomb Odesa, Borschi just north of Odesa, Vinnitsa just north east of that …(missing out a few because of having to look them all up)…then Lviv in the north west, and at the same time start threatening from Belarus.

Aren’t they beginning an encirclement of the whole country?

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 26/05/2022 21:18

@notimagain I did think afterwards it might not be appropriate to share the info but I'm told this is a public alert, it's info in the public domain and as you say giving civilians the heads up. Should I ask for it to be taken down ?

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 26/05/2022 21:25

I have two main contacts and their approach to these warnings are very different. One takes them very seriously and the other does not. I have had these forwarded before and nothing has happened. The point is that these warnings/lists are getting longer because it is really heating up.

Onceuponatimeinalandfaraway · 26/05/2022 21:25

Anyone like to message me a quick catch up of anything I’ve missed over the last couple of weeks please? I tried to post last night but don’t think it actually sent. i don’t think I can even begin to go back and find out what I’ve missed. Did the rest of the civilians and soldiers on the steel works and Mariupol get rescued?

Russia has been known to send messages of this nature. Ukraine is saying they see absolutely no evidence of these imminent attacks. I hope they're right.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/05/2022 21:50

@FrenchBoule
Thank you for your reply; I was not dissing the Polish people the welcome to Ukrainian refugees has been outstanding and admirable, even if I didn't already know, like and admire many Polish individuals but having grave doubts about the political behaviour of the leaders of Hungary and Poland. Information is always good to get. I'm grateful.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/05/2022 21:51

Oops, sorry; the crossings-out there were not my idea!
