@itsgettingweird
I am so sorry to hear that. Flowers

There are some wonderful caring people around and I'm glad you experienced them.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 20:59

Oh @itsgettingweird, so very sorry. Sending you a hug. 💐

cakeorwine · 25/05/2022 21:03

Work events weren't always allowed as an excuse.
I thought it was if it was essential or necessary for the purposes of work.

So some gatherings were essential or necessary at work. Some weren't

Cornettoninja · 25/05/2022 21:11

@itsgettingweird I’m really sorry to read about your mum. I hope you’re being well supported Flowers

borntobequiet · 25/05/2022 21:16

At the 1922 Committee, Harriett Baldwin suggested that alcohol should be banned in Downing Steet and government departments.

Goodness, my MP saying something worthwhile for once. She’s normally a total Government apologist.

Cornettoninja · 25/05/2022 19:45

Uhuh.

Tell you what, go and have a look at the actual figures (turnouts, the numbers making up majorities) from elections, including brexit, then come back and tell me how that represents the views of ‘the English’.

User135644….agree with your observation and I am English! Am actually embarrassed to admit my nationality these days!!

Changechangychange · 25/05/2022 21:18

User135644 · 25/05/2022 19:35

The English make me laugh. You make out you're annoyed but you'll still vote Tory next election.

There's no cure for permanent Stockholm Syndrome. Never underestimate the English love for the Tories and capacity to forelock tug.

They're justlaughing at you.

14m people voted Tory in 2019. There are 68m people in the UK. I think it is pretty safe to assume that most of the people on this thread come from the 54m non-Tory voters.

Alcohol ban in the Houses of Parliament? Maybe the politicians will go on strike in protest? Which would be bloody brilliant. Start a petition.

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2022 21:28

Let's take away their cheap Parliament bar , their wine cooler fridges, their doughnuts , their wallpaper !!
Make them live a frugal unhappy alcohol free life. I bloody wished! ( won't happen)

MayorDusty · 25/05/2022 21:33

Can we have compulsory drug testing and a alcohol test before each day?
that's be great!

User135644 · 25/05/2022 21:34

And take away most of their expenses.

With any luck they'll all resign because they're a shower of shite.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2022 21:34

Fascinating that Johnson immediately rejected the idea of an alcohol ban - I guess he feels he can't risk any further loss of popularity. Grin

But they don't need an alcohol ban - just leadership from someone with a bit more integrity.

I listened to this attached link live and thought it was very good - Andrew Marr summing up today. It's over 9 minutes but well worth a watch/listen.

Peregrina · 25/05/2022 22:47

Those of you who have Tory MPs keep writing and emailing them and telling them that Johnson's behaviour is wholly unacceptable, and that you won't vote for them next time. It might concentrate a few minds of some of them.

I still expect though that a lot of Johnson's cronies will clear out when the next election comes round.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 22:56

I think my Tory waste of space is well aware he’ll never get my vote @Peregrina. Emailing him is a waste of bandwidth.

Set up a new email account in the name of Doris Jones or something else that sounds suitably pensioner-esque. Tell him you've voted Tory all your life but won't be doing so again Grin

Roussette · 25/05/2022 23:01

Oh yes to the clown outfit but more than one needed!

I have emailed my MP and I spent aot if time on my bullet points, I was pleased with it. Maybe third time lucky to get a reply as my last two emails were ignored. Wish my MP will clear out

OP posts:
Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 23:06

I honestly can’t be bothered @carefullycourageous. If I ran his office I’d check incoming emails against the electoral register so I don’t suppose it would work anyway.
