What do you put on the TV in the background to relax?

When I was a kid I used to go to my Granny's every Saturday and after playing out I would snooze in front of the telly with her watching a Western in the background. If there's ever a Western on the telly when I'm flicking through I have to put it on for a while.

I now have some golf tournament on in the background. H has just come in and asked why I'm watching the golf but I just find it relaxing. Cricket and snooker are also relaxing although I don't take notice of any of the details.

Anyone else like this?

Gardeners World

It's the gentle soothing sounds of birdsong, the sweet dog and Monty Don just relaxes me.

Intermsof · 19/05/2022 15:00

Oh I love Gardener's World. And Monty too.

Any sort of home improvement show. For preference, one featuring Sarah Beeny, George Clarke or an American one with the Property Brothers

AmbushedByCake · 19/05/2022 15:03

Almost anything involving people cooking things or people going on holiday.

louloulemons · 19/05/2022 15:05

Antiques roadshow for me! Find it really soothing on a Sunday evening!

MayorDusty · 19/05/2022 15:07

I have to put the cooking on to eat, gets me in the mood.
I have different radio for different things and relaxing is always talk so LBC.

FuckingNoise · 19/05/2022 15:07

Friends, Downton Abbey, Only Fools and Horses. If it's music either Absolute Rock or Classic FM.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/05/2022 15:11

To sit and relax, Bake off or the pottery show. Taskmaster if I need a good laugh. Music wise I would go for Debussy - always makes me fall asleep.

JaneJeffer · 19/05/2022 15:13

Coast, the walks in Yorkshire programmes or anything archeology based.

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/05/2022 15:14

Atm it's the Vampire Diaries 😳

JaneJeffer · 19/05/2022 15:14

& Michael Portillo train journeys

Bobbins36 · 19/05/2022 15:15

Nothing. Tv is off unless there’s something I actually want to watch.

Libertaire · 19/05/2022 15:15

Sky News, on mute & with the subtitles on. I WFH and it’s on all day.

PeekAtYou · 19/05/2022 15:15

Grand Designs because of Kevin McCloud's voice

Caspianberg · 19/05/2022 15:16

Travel or food shows whilst I iron usually.

I’m liking the Johanna lumley series and Simon reeves at the moment. Interesting, and easy to follow if you aren’t 100% concentrating

Libre2 · 19/05/2022 15:17

In the background? Nothing, ever. TV in the background drives me crazy. If I go to a friend’s house I find it really hard to deal with conversation and the television on. For me, it’s there to be watched not as background. I realise I may have some issues. In fairness I can’t have the radio on either if I am not actively listening to it.

bluesky45 · 19/05/2022 15:20

Paw patrol, because the kids love it and will sit still and I can chill out! Also, the cricket. My dad loves cricket and the sound of the commentators was the soundtrack to summer car journeys in my childhood, falling asleep in the backseat.

Johnnysgirl · 19/05/2022 15:21

Old episodes of Poirot.

savemeagin · 19/05/2022 15:27

Friends, come dine with me, escape in the country.

Problemmo · 19/05/2022 15:28

Prefer the radio, radio 4 mainly. Do like Attenborough’s voice though so been watching the new Netflix show recently.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/05/2022 15:29

Barefoot Contessa, or Delia if available.

Intermsof · 19/05/2022 16:10

A Place in the Sun is another one that I have in the background while I'm doing something else. Cookery shows are a good shout too. I always forget about the radio. I only listen to the radio if I'm in the car and that isn't often as I walk most places.

@bluesky45 yes I think that's it. I spent a lot of my childhood at either the side of a cricket or rugby field with my dad playing. Nostalgia. I don't find rugby relaxing though 🤣

Friends, it's brain calming chatter.
