Small treats that perk you up…

Partly because a cost of living thread brought to my mind the fact that nail Polish and lipstick sales soared during the 2008 crash and the fact that I’ve just received some amazing koi nail art stickers from Ali Express £2. I thought it might be nice to have a thread of small/inexpensive treats for inspiration.

Another thing I bought recently was this rollerball pen £6 that takes fountain pen ink cartridges and I already had some mixed colours so I popped a cheery purple ink into mine. www.amazon.co.uk/Herbin-Transparent-Rollerball-Pen-Fine/dp/B009IJIVT6?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

I bought some gorgeous glasses cord thingies from Amazon. They have made life so much easier than placing my sunglasses into my bag intermittently. I have had a few compliments also. 5 quid for a pack of 5z

Neveranynamesleft · 15/05/2022 18:27

6 quid for a pen 🤔

DameCelia · 15/05/2022 18:29

6 quid for a pen 🤔

What's up with that?

bluesky45 · 15/05/2022 18:34

Rewatching downton abbey, it's just comfort TV!
A little chocolate treat, lindt bunnies around Easter or malteasers are my new favourites.
Preferably both together!

Brogues · 15/05/2022 18:35

@bluesky45 i can’t wait to sit down to binge the new Agatha Raisin!

I absolutely adore a Fry's Turkish Delight. Myself and my lovely colleague are the only people I know who like them. Every now and then I will find one on my desk, or I will leave one for her. Just love the little surprise of finding one, or the little rush of joy of leaving one for her to find. ❤️

TokyoSushi · 15/05/2022 18:36

Lovely soap, especially Nesti Dante

Treecloudtree · 15/05/2022 18:36

The Works 3 for £5 books.

yes books are free from the library. Yes charity shops are cheaper. But you can’t beat a brand new book as a cheapish treat.

ImJustNotMeAnymore · 15/05/2022 18:36

I love notebooks. Little ones. And beautiful pens. Our pound shop has some lovely metal pens with stag heads on and I love mine.

Oh, yes... Gorgeous stuff.

Hoolahulahoop · 15/05/2022 18:40

I'm literally rewatching Downton Abbey right now bluesky as we speak

I love buying a few ice coffees in Aldi and drinking them on the way to work. Cheap but feels indulgent.

Also planting seeds. I've nasturtium seeds to plant this week .

NormalForNuneaton · 15/05/2022 18:40

An almond croissant from a local artisan ( yep, I hate that expression too but it's the only way I can think of describing it) deli/coffeeshop place.

Jeez, they must have a million calories and are not cheap but my god are they good and such a treat!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 15/05/2022 18:43

@SingingSands thats lovely , and I love them too

i buy 34% hazelnut chocolate by Lindt . Approx £2.50 , but currently low carbing so missing it

Neveranynamesleft · 15/05/2022 18:45

I never piss on anyone's chips fer chrissakes. Lighten up. What's wrong with a bic....

MintMe · 15/05/2022 18:47

A hair or face mask for a few quid. It forces me to stay in the bath and actually relax.

QuestionableMouse · 15/05/2022 18:50

Nowt, but it's hardly going to cheer anyone up...

I like sheet masks. They're not all so cheap but there's something lovely about putting one on and chilling while it works. Love the gel ones too, especially if I can put the fan on. Skin feels so firm and lovely after!

Prudencia · 15/05/2022 18:52

I thought I would enjoy this thread but your nasty comment to another poster @Brogues upset me.
She didn't mean any harm and you were very mean. Lighthearted threads should be lighthearted in tone.

Eeksteek · 15/05/2022 19:05

A bath. I’m just not a shower person, and now gas is so much more expensive I’ve decreed they shall be for treats only. I miss them SO MUCH I have a proper pity party every time I drag my sulking, mutinous, previously-privileged arse into the shower.

I know I’ve been lucky in my life so far. I know I’m still lucky I’m easily amused. I don’t miss going out, I don’t care about spa or beauty stuff, I don’t mind about not having holidays, I’ve never bothered much with clothes anyway. But a hot bath, a decent steak and maybe a gin and tonic feels like something everyone should be able to afford as a small treat and I’m positively pouting because I can’t just now.

Neveranynamesleft · 15/05/2022 19:08

Thank you @Prudencia

I was really questioning how, in these difficult times, someone could pay 6 quid for a pen. I fully understand that everyone is different etc etc and it was a lighthearted question but still....

Brogues · 15/05/2022 19:12

I apologise I took your comment to not be as lighthearted as you meant it to be. Just waiting for someone to come on an say the phrase ‘tone deaf’ somewhere along the line. It has become the new are you on glue.
