Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've just made a coffee & put the washer on. Everyone else is still sleeping so it's very peaceful atm. I've got the kitchen window open so I can hear the birds, and I imagine the neighbour's dc will be out to play shortly.

I've not planned to do much today -there's the usual washing, ironing, hoovering etc. to be done. & both bathrooms could do with cleaning, but that won't take long.

Dd1 has drama coursework to carry on with & revision for a science paper they're doing in class next week (she's y10). She wants to print 2019's GCSE Spanish writing (I think) and practise that too -they did one the other day & she was 2 marks off an 8 so now she wants to get that 8! I think we'll be wandering to Asda for more paper!

Dd2 has her usual maths homework, some Science & English too. She'll probably come & sit at the table, with me, to do them.

I want to get the few sunflower plants off the windowsil into a pot, outside; trim my basil plant, and maybe sow some cucumber seeds too.

I've a little bit of prep for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides but not much -someone else is leading this week. I might not even need my trolley on Tuesday!

Once I've done those few bits I'm going to paint some more story props for school - I'm running out of resources though so these will likely be the last ones for a while 🤷‍♀️

Possibly southern fried chicken burgers for tea, with salad and wedges 😋 Then this evening I'll carry on with one of my crochet projects (I have three on the go 🙈).

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning lucysmam and all.

Beautiful day here and I havr a whole weekend off.
Had a coffee, done my meditation and yoga practice. Cleaned the house ready for family coming for the first BBQ of the year. DH is in the kitchen getting the BBQ food prepared.

All feels very sunny and bright today.

chisanunian · 14/05/2022 11:14

I've had a comedy mishap with the hosepipe in the garden, and given myself an surprise cold shower.
😂💦

M lying in the sun with dd chattering to me. If she could just nudge the volume down a tad it would be bliss!

Need to do the weekly shop later and I need to prep for a job interview next week. Its been months since i applied for it and it's for the EA so not sure if its wise to leave a secure job to move to a quango that will probably be hit by the ensuring Rees-Moggs civil service efficency drive.

Oh yes, a human design fault not having a volume switch

SiulaGrande · 14/05/2022 11:23

Morning, and a lovely sunny one it is too.
Usual early start with DD then I went for a jog (7km, happy with that).
DD is revising her hand drawn Dr Who timeline in advance of a long-planned binge watch of 4 episodes that I have agreed to join later Grin

An hour ago she went off with the cool young auntie to walk into town for a fancy ice cream as a birthday treat. Don't see much of auntie so will see how that goes. DD has a much needed haircut after lunch.

I went to pick up a box of photo frames from a freecycler, more than I thought - 15! Thought they'd be good for when we give GPs pics of DD, may frame a few postcards too.

Currently sitting in the garden with a fresh coffee DH made. He's got to be my mum's IT assistance later, and he's on dinner duty due to the Dr Who marathon. I may or may not hoover.

CaliforniaDrumming · 14/05/2022 11:23

Absolutely no housework or cooking. Get enough of that on weekdays.Off to Hyde Park and then Thai lunch. The Staircase in the evening.

Kat1953 · 14/05/2022 11:24

I'm regretting the late night stop off at tescos I did while ravenous. I ended up eating most of a tube of prinvles, a genuinely awful ready meal and some Cadburys caramel.

This morning I have a tummy ache and heartburn. And my diet is up a proverbial creek.

easyday · 14/05/2022 11:29

Lazy day for me today - just drinking a cup of tea bought some underwear for my daughter off of Amazon. She's off volunteering, doing music therapy with autistic kids. Takes her longer to get there and back then the time there! If she's up for it I'll meet her near the station and go for late lunch and do some shopping, but I expect she'll just want to come home chill out.
My son is working a clothing stall at a fair, he's already been to the gym.
So just me and the two dogs and cats listening to radio 4!

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 14/05/2022 11:35

Forgot to put tonight's plans...

The usual bottle of wine and snacks and TV with DH when children are in bed / teens in their rooms or out

However does anyone know if there's a way to get subtitles on ITV hub on a TV? It works on my tablet but not on our (old) TV so if DH and I want to watch something together on ITV I have to watch on the tablet so I can have subtitles and he watches on the main TV but we both sit together but it's a bit clunky and annoying. I'm deaf btw if that wasn't obvious 😂

Without subtitles I can maybe catch the odd word but it's very tiring. And you can't lipread off the TV!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 14/05/2022 11:42

Morning all.

I’ve been up since 7:30. Walked the dog, put a wash on before I left the house, had breakfast in the garden, hung the aforementioned wash out on the line, watered and fed my outdoor pots, planted a climber and am now indoors having a sit down for half an hour.

Still to do,

need to dye my roots
put another load of laundry in
take dog out again
order some more dog food

I also dug an enormous (4m x 3m) antique rug out of the loft yesterday. Nearly killed myself doing it. It’s bloody massive and weighs an absolute tonne (hand knotted, wool Persian job). I got it out with a view to shampooing it and putting it in one of the bedrooms but I forgot how heavy the thing is and now it’s sat on the landing and DH (who hates it and hoped it would live in the loft forever) is fuming Grin. It will move but it’s a bigger job than I realised (ooops), so may take a bit more time than originally planned.

Having a quick cup of coffee at work (career home cleaning) I've just been sitting with a resident for a chat. It's 20 degrees here. I'm basically a tomato in a tabard.
DD3 is with my friend at a boating lake thing and it's takeaway for dinner. Life is goodSmile

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 14/05/2022 11:52

What a lovely thread 💐 sounds like you are all having constructive days.
I am isolating in my room with covid 🎻 keeping away from the rest of the family and baby granddaughter. Not sure how I am going to fill my time today. All ideas welcome 😊

Rowgtfc72 · 14/05/2022 11:55

Morning !
Went out at 7 for a 20 mile bike ride, need to plant some seeds that outgrew their pots 3 weeks ago and clean my house as I have 2 hours tomorrow home alone and I've pencilled that in for Croissants and Netflix, not hoovering. 😁
Dh is attempting to renew the guttering on the garage but next door forgot to leave their gate unbolted when she went to work and he doesn't fancy toppling into 6 stone of german shepherd without her there.
Dd is finally getting up so we can go to see her karate sensei to see if she's grading for her black belt any time soon or should we knock it on the head for a year till next year's gcses are done with.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 14/05/2022 11:55

Love these threads too , nothing much planned this weekend which sometimes I love .
sun is shining today so washing pegged out I’ve been for a run and made a fake McDonald’s breakfast sandwich .
quick tidy round and I’ll pop out to supermarket in a bit then home to enjoy the sun in my garden as tomorrow rain forecast .
may enjoy a couple of wines and bbq for tea .

Tomato in a tabard Grin

@Noglassjustthebottleandastraw , poor you. Hopefully you aren’t feeling unwell with it? Fingers crossed for a negative LFT soon

MirandaWest · 14/05/2022 12:03

Did parkrun with DH earlier on. Have been having breakfast and sitting around. Am
working 1-5 which is a little annoying 😂

Planning on watching Eurovision Song Contest this evening 😊

Lonelycrab · 14/05/2022 12:07

Had an early video call with an old friend who’s now in New Zealand, been a few months since our last chinwag. About to scoot the hoover round while ds10 is stuck into minecraft…

have another old friend visiting for the night, arriving soon, the three of us then up the woods for a walk then an early dinner at the pub is the plan. Glorious day here, north Hampshire.

so pretty good one here, often it’s a lot more dull so makes a nice change for me as a single parent.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 14/05/2022 12:11

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda it's been pretty mild and on the mend now thankfully. Thank you 💐 yes fingers crossed for that negative test soon 😊

mommybear1 · 14/05/2022 12:28

DH has taken DS4 to his sports club and I've just finished my workout session finally hit 6k running so feeling pretty pleased with myself 😁. Sun is out so we have changed our plans to go out this afternoon to staying in and doing homemade pizza on the bbq and enjoying the sunshine. DS has plans for a water fight with us later so that's sure to be fun 😫.

Elderflower14 · 14/05/2022 13:07

I was at work in the bakery at 6.30am. Finished at 11.30am. Did some shopping for a friend's aunt as friend is away. Delivered that and came home. Hung out my Chelsea flag ready for this evening... Have had lunch and am now about to have a doze...😴 😴 😴

Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
RollOnWinter · 14/05/2022 13:09

I was up at 6.0. Fed the cat, birds and squirrels. Put the washer on. Done 4 lots today now. I've cleaned the bathroom, hoovered 2 of the 3 bedrooms, swept down the stairs. Just got to hoover through downstairs now. Curry and rice later.

Simonjt · 14/05/2022 13:57

My son had a rugby match today, I say match, they’re 6/7 so it is jusr chaos with a ball really.

Grandma is babysitting tonight, as its sunny and warm we’ve joined the fellow gays and gone to the park to start on our tans. We’re going out out tonight.

elp30 · 14/05/2022 14:02

I'm in the US so it's before 8am now.

It's currently 24C with 91% humidity. It feels muggy and pretty gross but I'll be tying up my shoelaces and going out for a walk in a bit. I have to do it soon because any later and it will get hotter. The expected high is "reasonable" at
33C. 😣

Today is decluttering day!

My youngest child returned from university yesterday, as the school year ended. She lives on campus and has to clear her room at the end of the year and she brought home so much stuff. We will be spending the day decluttering her stuff. Yay.

My middle child is finally leaving the nest, so to speak, as he has started his first "professional" job, after university, as a nurse. He's moving in with his girlfriend of five years, finally. His room is a mess. I am trying to get him to take as little as possible to his new life but that doesn't seem likely. All I know is that it's not staying here!

I'm hoping we can do it all quickly and have time to go to the outdoor community swimming pool. I deserve a leisurely swim in the intense sunshine.

Enjoy your Saturday MN!
