Would you eat this?

I often see these threads and think "of course I'd eat that", but I'm having a crisis of confidence.

Chicken fried rice made on Friday night. Has been in the fridge since. If it smells alright, would you eat it? I'm having a bit of a wobble because it's rice, and I'd usually try to eat it within a couple of days.

What do you think?

No, I’d have had it on Sunday at the latest, and I’m usually very laid back with use by dates/ leftovers.

Flyinggeese1234 · 10/05/2022 14:40

Absolutely not!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 10/05/2022 14:42

No. I'm normally quite laid back with things like this, but think food poisoning from rice is quite likely after 4 days

No way

carefullycourageous · 10/05/2022 14:43

No, three days for meat - so Sunday.

CottonSock · 10/05/2022 14:43

No and I have very low threshold for reheating food.

carefullycourageous · 10/05/2022 14:43

Oh and rice I only eat on the day - I just read 'chicken'!

StuckInTheMiddleOfNowhere · 10/05/2022 14:44

No!

Jellifer · 10/05/2022 14:44

Nope!

Chaoslatte · 10/05/2022 14:45

Fried rice is already made with reheated rice so I guess posters don’t eat it at all! I’d eat it as long as it was thoroughly reheated - probably in a hot frying pan rather than microwave. Not after today though.

PepsiArcade · 10/05/2022 14:46

I wouldn’t eat something with meat and rice in that was 4 days old.

I’m usually pretty relaxed with food but wouldn’t risk that!

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 10/05/2022 14:48

Sunday night would have been my absolute cut off.

HardRockOwl · 10/05/2022 14:51

Eww no.

WeAreTheHeroes · 10/05/2022 14:51

I'm going to say yes if it was something I'd cooked myself. No if it's leftover takeaway.

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2022 14:53

Nope, no way! I'm very relaxed about that stuff but Sunday would've been the latest I'd have eaten that.

mcplant · 10/05/2022 14:59

Nope!

bigbluebus · 10/05/2022 15:05

No definitely not with rice.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/05/2022 15:11

I very rarely say no on a 'would you eat that' thread, but even I'd probably reject 4 day old food of any kind, whatever it is.

Bimster · 10/05/2022 15:16

Fried rice has already been reheated once (to fry it) so strictly shouldn't be reheated again at all. I would probably risk it the next day but not 4 days later.

Hyperion100 · 10/05/2022 15:17

Nope...with rice (due to its enormous surface area) its not just the bacteria that makes you sick its the toxins that bacteria produces...so regardless of how much you heat it to kill the bacteria, the toxins remain.

Silversprinkles · 10/05/2022 15:25

I'm pretty chill with BB dates etc but I'd say no to that. Just not worth the risk.

oldwhyno · 10/05/2022 15:34

I potentially would, depending on how it was handled in the first place. If the rice was originally cooked that day before frying, and the chicken was also fresh and cooked once, then I would probably be fine with it up to 4/5 days.

The biggest issue with rice is not how long it's been since it was cooked, it's how it was allowed to cool down after being originally cooked. And fresh cooked meat can last way longer than people think. shelf life on cooked chicken in supermarkets is way more 3 days.

Yep I have a strong stomach.

I've drunk milk a month out of date with no comeback.

Was it still milk at that point? 🤣
