Travelling to USA

Knittingnanny2 · 09/05/2022 11:06

I’m travelling end of month to see son and family for the first time in 3 years and a bit alarmed at the “ covid test within 24 hours of flying” rule still currently in place, according to official USA guidance. Flying recently to the Far East it was within 48 hours which was much more manageable.
I am getting a bit anxious, although hopeful the rules change in next couple of weeks.
Anyone been recently and managed not to get in too much of a panic about getting the result in time for a mid morning flight?
thanks in advance

I’m off to the USA in a couple of months and I think the testing is any time the day before, which makes it a little easier. It doesn’t need to be within 24 hours of the flight. For what it’s worth - I don’t think there’s any chance of the testing going any time soon!

Planker · 09/05/2022 12:14

I was just reading up on this . I says it's within the preceding day - not a precise 24 hour limit.

I really want to travel again to the USA but the testing is holding me back. 😒

Knittingnanny2 · 09/05/2022 16:40

My flight is about 10.30 am so I’m so anxious about not getting a result in time! I did the test for Singapore at 9 am on a Monday for a wed flight and didn’t get the result until 6 pm on the Tuesday! So that won’t work for the usa.
im still hoping...

@Sleepplease2021 where will you have to travel to for a test that comes back in time? I’m overwhelmed by all the different companies!

You can order a LFT which is acceptable as long as it’s witnessed. There are companies who will post the test to you and then book an online appointment to supervise you doing the test the day before. Instant results so no worrying about waiting. They then email you a certificate for travel.

Flavourflava · 09/05/2022 16:42

You can just do an online test the day before. You should have the confirmation back within an hour. No fuss.

Fabpinky · 09/05/2022 16:43

I’m travelling through the USA in 2 weeks and I have booked a test for the day before where they will video call me, watch me take the test and send me a certificate within 20 minutes. I can find the link for you

Tothepoint99 · 09/05/2022 16:43

Is this the pre departure test?

Fabpinky · 09/05/2022 16:43

breatheassured.com

they are very helpful and can advise you on when you should take your test

Jellycatspyjamas · 09/05/2022 16:43

I used a company called Confirm Testing, they were fine.

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2022 16:46

Test can be taken at any time the day before travel.

And it doesn't need to be a PCR, just a LFT/Rapid Antigen, which is very quick to get a result because it doesn't need to go to a lab. It's basically the same as the ones we all do at home.

The test does need to be "supervised", though. Your best bet is to find a local clinic and book an in-person appointment for the day before. We used DAM health (they have lots of offices), took the tests at lunchtime and had the results emailed within 2 hours.

We’re booking online tests with Qured. You order the tests and then they are observed via video, with the results straight away pretty much. All seems quite straight forward. We’ll test ourselves the few days before anyway so there won’t be any shocks :)

AyeEee123 · 09/05/2022 16:48

We used DocHQ last month. Had our certificates emailed with the negative result within 20 mins of doing the test. Very easy.

BlueSpottedGiraffe · 09/05/2022 16:51

I did it online with Qured the day before, super easy they sent the test as soon as I ordered it then you registered it and booked a video call appointment for any time the day before.

Result came back within 10 minutes of me uploading my result.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 09/05/2022 16:52

We did online supervised rapid antigen tests and had the results within an hour. We were both positive but that was in the massive spike in March!

Knittingnanny2 · 09/05/2022 19:04

That’s very helpful thank you all so much
im going to order the one to do at home with a video

@Knittingnanny2 book with chronomics. You don't need an appointment for the video call and I think you get your results within a couple of hours . Was very stress free

PurrBox · 09/05/2022 19:30

We have gone many times in the last few months. My husband flew today. We use Confirm testing 'fit to fly' tests for £12.50. You do them at home and send a picture of the result. They send a certificate, usually within 40 minutes. Officially you are supposed to have some sort of video confirmation which costs a bit more, but my family have used these tests at least 12 times in the last 4 months, and they have always worked perfectly.

The whole process takes a few minutes. (Well you have to wait for the LFT test results- 15 minutes, as usual)

Thanks again everyone, I’m hanging on til next week and then will order one to do at home if the rules are still in place.

Today I flipping tested positive for covid so fingers crossed I’m negative in 12 days time!

Outoutoutshout · 14/05/2022 16:45

Do they wait on the video call for the half an hour while the LFT processes?

Quartz2208 · 14/05/2022 16:48

Breathe assured (who @Fabpinky) recommended do.

Have used 3 times (twice to the US once in Dec to return to UK) and they talk you through the process online and wait and do not sign off until you have received and signed off paperwork

Outoutoutshout · 14/05/2022 16:51

That must cost a lot if they have to wait all that time. Can it be any LTF that you have around your house?

BunsyGirl · 14/05/2022 16:53

We have also used Breath Assured online for lateral flow the day before flying to USA. Very straightforward. They check all your details whilst waiting for the test results and then email the paperwork whilst you are on the call.

VeryQuaintIrene · 14/05/2022 17:04

Don't know where you are flying out of, but I've quite often done it at Heathrow with a test that usually takes about 2 hours to get back to you and they open early enough for a mid-morning flight (book in advance, though.)
