What songs stir your emotions?

Driving home and One More light by Linkin Park was on. Gets me right in the feels every time I hear it!

Other songs that make me tear up are:

Wires by Athlete - my youngest child had sepsis as a baby and it takes me right back there every time!

Also Slipping though my fingers - Abba - I have daughters, enough said!

What songs properly stir your emotions?

OP posts:

Coming around again by Carly Simon

MidnightMeltdown · 07/05/2022 22:30

You can let go by Crystal Shawanda

DrFoxtrot · 07/05/2022 22:31

The Way We Were by Barbra Streisand gets me every time Sad.

And also ABBA Slipping Through My Fingers as PP/OP mentioned.

Any children singing Away In A Manger Blush.

DrFoxtrot · 07/05/2022 22:32

Bastille Pompeii has special meaning for me as it was playing when I felt truly free for the first time after leaving XH.

TulipsHere · 07/05/2022 22:35

The hymn 'abide with me'

TulipsHere · 07/05/2022 22:36

And this. I cannot listen without sobbing.

Everything I own, Ken Boothe
a friend's mum was a foster carer and died only a few months after her cancer diagnosis, lots of her foster children there, as teens and adults some with families of their own, they had chosen it, some of the lyrics bring a lump to my throat thinking about it even now.

Beautiful

parkrunner1977 · 07/05/2022 22:40

Time to Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli.

Also It's Your World Now by The Eagles. It was played at my dad's funeral last year, can't listen to it without welling up.

ACatCalledPuss · 07/05/2022 22:42

I've been loving you too long - otis redding
Also the song from the musical dear Evan hansen - You Will be Found

parkrunner1977 · 07/05/2022 22:44

Also Moving On by James. The lyrics pull at the heart strings anyway but I fall to pieces everytime I watch the video, it's so emotional.

Dundonian · 07/05/2022 22:45

I'm Still Waiting - Diana Ross.

I don't know why it gets to me, but it makes me well up.

womaniswomaniswoman · 07/05/2022 22:56

Purple Rain. The opening chord does something to my soul, I can't explain it, it's like pouring a balm onto me.

Lover please stay by Nothing But Thieves.

All Too Well by Taylor Swift.

You can close your eyes by James Taylor.

Radiohead: Sulk, Black Star, No Surprises, Lucky, Vegatable

Letter from America - The Proclaimers

All of Back to Black, basically.

I have to stop looking through Spotify now as I'm getting too emotional 😆

NotMyDayJob · 07/05/2022 23:01

Many of these songs from PP, but also

I don't want to talk about it - Everything but the girl, playing in the radio in the taxi I took from the hospital after being told there was no heartbeat.

Live Forever - Oasis, many years ago I did a Saturday night shift at a cinema til 3am and used to come home and eat a quick snack while listening to Capital radio. One night some listeners called in and requested this for their friend who had been in an accident that day and wasn't expected to survive. They played the most lovely acoustic version. I'm not even much of an Oasis fan but now whenever I hear that song I think of that boy and his friends over 20 years ago.

Dancing Queen - Abba, nostalgic for being 16 myself and dancing to it!

Clawdy · 07/05/2022 23:02

Another vote for Time To Say Goodbye.
Fire And Rain - James Taylor
In My Life - The Beatles

Ithinkwemightgetaholiday · 07/05/2022 23:06

Also Wires by Athlete, those words ❤

Stand By Me - Ben E King.

The bit in Dont let the Sun go Down on Me by George Michael where he introduces Elton John.

Badlifeday · 07/05/2022 23:16

Not normally an Ed Sheeran fan but I can't listen to Supermarket Flowers without crying, I think it is very well observed.

Pleasecreateausername · 07/05/2022 23:19

Dream by Priscilla Ahn - literally can't listen to it without crying!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/05/2022 23:39

The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun
Tracy Chapman - All That You Have Is Your Soul (and just about anything else by her)
Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle
Steve Winwood - Back In The High Life Again
Marc Cohn - just about everything he ever recorded, but especially The Things We've Handed Down
Lyle Lovett - numerous songs, but especially Old Friend
Simon & Garfunkel - Bookends
Bruce Hornsby - Fields Of Gray; I love the song anyway, but there's a dad who made a video tribute to his son on his (the son's!) 3rd birthday, which is just so, so beautiful:

Also, similar to PP:
Runrig - Loch Lomond (live)
Amy Macdonald - Caledonia
Amy Macdonald and the People of Glasgow - Rhythm Of My Heart (live)
Austria 3 - I Am From Austria

I am not Scottish and I am not from Austria!

Hero by Enrique Iglasias & Hello Again by Neil Diamond both remind me of my late dp, he sang Hero at Karaeoke on holiday & it is one of the few videos of him I have. Both were played at his funeral.

Black eyed Peas I gotta feeling & Belinda Carlisle Heaven on Earth both make me smile & think of when I first met dp, we lived 45 minutes drive from each other & on a Friday night I would pick up ds from school & we would drive over for the weekend, I gotta feeling was in the charts & was nearly always on the radio or we had an 80's compilation on the ipod blasting out & Heaven on Earth was the first song.

Ayeayeaye · 07/05/2022 23:57

The Night We Met by Lord Huron.

apapuchi · 08/05/2022 00:18

My ultimate is Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen) - Tom Waits.

American Tune - Simon and Garfunkel (as mentioned before)

A Case of You - Joni Mitchell

LadyHelenaJustina · 08/05/2022 00:21

Something inside so strong, by Labi Siffre
In My Life by the Beatles

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/05/2022 00:27

So Strong by Labi Siffre
Pie Jesu by Andrew Lloyd Webber

shinyblackdog · 08/05/2022 00:30

Stuck in a Moment - U2
Driftwood - Travis
Torn - Natalie Imbruglia

Bit depressing, now I see them written down. But they have all helped me feel stronger.

Hawkins001 · 08/05/2022 00:34

With me it's a mix,

Sometimes I hear the song, and like it for a while then the effect it had fades and I become numb to the tunes effects, then sometimes I find a different song ect
Over time it's a mix the common ones

Requium for a dream
Flock of seagulls, I ran
Mission impossible remix theme
Metal gear solid 2 theme
Harder, faster, stronger
Painted black
halo themes

usually it's a mix of various tv or film tunes, and or game songs, then also some pop tunes or heavy metal songs.

usually I listen on YouTube as it combines clips from the shows With the relevant music 🎶
