Driving home and One More light by Linkin Park was on. Gets me right in the feels every time I hear it!

Other songs that make me tear up are:

Wires by Athlete - my youngest child had sepsis as a baby and it takes me right back there every time!

Also Slipping though my fingers - Abba - I have daughters, enough said!

What songs properly stir your emotions?

Also What's Going On - Marvin Gaye - such an emotive song

Floydthebarber · 07/05/2022 21:18

Johny Cash's version of Hurt. This Woman's Work by Kate bush. Both so simple and haunting.

cobab · 07/05/2022 21:22

Donna summer singing state of independence. Don't know why. It's so spiritual and sensual at the same time

Smallorangecat · 07/05/2022 21:25

The Night Will Always Win by Elbow which I actually first discovered on one of these threads. Since DH died I play it and cry at “I miss your stupid face, I miss your bad advice.”

Every Frightened Rabbit song. Completely heartbreaking but beautiful.

Wave Across The Bay by Frank Turner

Luther Vandross ‘Dance with my father again’

I’m lucky that I still have my dad, but even so, this song makes me well up every time at the thought that one day I won’t have him.

Northern Skies - I am Kloot
I want this at my funeral. The imagery is very strong.

Baby Lee - Teenage Fanclub

Beautiful Girl - INXS
My friend’s husband chose this for her funeral after he’d nursed her for the last two months of her
life”. He’s not a man of many words, but these were just right.
”Stay with me, beautiful girl”

CandyCaneLane0 · 07/05/2022 21:31

Anchor - Novo Amor
All eyes on me - Bo Burnham
Yesterday once more - Carpenters
Bloodbank- Bon Iver
Blindsided- Bon Iver

The first time I heard Hell You Talmbout

Song by Janelle Monáe

I cried a bit, very powerful

User3568975431146 · 07/05/2022 21:33

Sound of silence but only the version by Disturbed.

Fiction
and
So Far Away
both by Avenged Sevenfold

I Apologise
Far From Home
and
Remember Everything
all by Five Finger Death Punch

Luckinspades · 07/05/2022 21:33

A thousand years by Christina Perry.

I think it was the YouTube of the mothers signing it to their children,. Snotty sobbing. I just can’t hear it any more without thinking of that video.

the song on the film Up! The one at the beginning with the old couple. I took my then small ds to the cinema to see it and he just asked me if the ladies baby had died. I was a mess.(multiple miscarriages so very raw)

The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics
DDad became unwell when I was 11, deteriorated quickly and died when I was 23. I never really knew him, but have often been told I am very like him. Bizarrely, DS “has” his hands!

Googlecanthelpme · 07/05/2022 21:35

Well yesterday I heard someone play the intro
to Shania Twain on piano and I swear I welled up!
It isn’t something I’d normally cry over but something about the piano and how hopeful that song is…. Got me right in the feels

but otherwise -

power of love by FGTH

Bird on a wire - Lenard Cohen

Googlecanthelpme · 07/05/2022 21:36

Forgot the title - shania Twain Still the One

not Man I feel like a woman 😂

HarrietSchulenberg · 07/05/2022 21:38

Kite by U2. Reminds me of a particularly problematic time with DS1 when I thought he was going to end up either in prison or dead. He did neither and has grown through it into a rather wonderful young man but that song takes me back to the fear I had when he was so totally out of all control.

Anyfeckinusername · 07/05/2022 21:42

Even though I don’t have a thing for any of these singers/bands… I get the mega goosebumps from:

sinead O’Connor - nothing compares 2 u
the cars - drive
roxy music - avalon

they absolutely choke me up.

And the ones that make me bounce up -

the tingtings - that’s not my name
Lorde - royals
and Remember my name, but I can’t remember who it’s by 😂

loads more!! But that’s all I can think of!

rubydoobydoo · 07/05/2022 21:44

Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Redemption Song by Bob Marley
Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel (none of the horrible warbley cover versions - it was my dad's favourite song and he died when I was very young!)

PuppyPowerTool · 07/05/2022 21:45

Zeit & Ohne Dich - both by Rammstein.
Also the 2nd movement of Beethovens 7th.

rubydoobydoo · 07/05/2022 21:50

And completely unlike anything else I like or listen to - the whole of Dvorak's New World Symphony!

SkiingIsHeaven · 07/05/2022 21:50

Maroon 5 - Memories. Gets me every time.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/05/2022 22:03

That’ll Do - Black Dyke Band with Peter Gabriel

in fact any brass band music

ThreeFeetTall · 07/05/2022 22:04

The mother- Brandi Carlile

Saucery · 07/05/2022 22:05

I Am Mine, Pearl Jam

I know I was born and I know that I’ll die
The in between is mine
I Am Mine.

LorW · 07/05/2022 22:13

Eva Cassidy - fields of gold
Terence Trent D'Arby - let her down easy
Dani & Lizzi - dancing in the sky (cry like a baby every time I hear it)

rickandmorts · 07/05/2022 22:17

Our Day Will Come - Amy Winehouse. Always makes me sad when I listen to it, she was so young when she died. I'm not even a huge Winehouse fan but for some reason that song is just really bittersweet for me.

Song to the Siren sung by This Mortal Coil
