I want to get my nose Pierced!

But I worry I'm too old and I'll look ridiculous 🙈 (I'm 31).
I just think they look so cool but IMO only certain faces pull it off 😅🙈
What do o expect of I get it peirced healing wise? Will my nose be red and swollen for ages? I've had cartilage piercings before I'm my ear which were wicked but I don't sleep on my nose so hoping it wouldn't be so cruel!
I just want a really small dainty stud in.... but I'm nervous 🙈

I'm 39, I had mine done last year. It takes at least 6 months to fully heal, you can't swim for a few months, I managed to keep mine off the pillow, but I sleep on a feather one anyway. The worst bit of catching it on a towel or face cloth and yanking it out!!

EggbertHeartsTina · 07/05/2022 18:04

I had mine done at about 30 and I love it. I have a little stud. However agree it takes at LEAST 6mo to fully heal and it seems impossible to avoid the dreaded “bump” which is like a little shiny cartilage-y bump that forms near the piercing. It goes away with various care practices though.

Still worth it IMO.

EggbertHeartsTina · 07/05/2022 18:06

Oh and if you go for a barbell piece of jewellery it’s almost impossible to rip it out accidentally. Astrid & Miyu have nice barbell studs or Maria Tash if you’re feeling rich…

Too old? At 31? 😂

I'm planning to get mine done soon and I'm 53!

IsDaveThere · 07/05/2022 18:07

I'm 53 and I had mine fine in Feb this year, I dont feel to old and I'm 22 years older than you!

It didn't hurt at all, it was only swollen for a couple of days before it went down.

Didn't know about the swimming but I'm on holiday in 2 weeks and will definately be in the pool!

CherryRipe1 · 07/05/2022 18:07

Had mine done in the 80s. It was a lean over the jewellers counter and
bosh, done jobee! Very primative, no aftercare advice, so probably alot better nowadays. It didn't particularly hurt and healed quickly.

Wednesdayafternoon · 07/05/2022 18:37

Ahhh thank you all!
Is the swimming thing just for noses? I've never not swam 😳
So when you guys say 6 months to fully heal... what were those 6 months like for you? Painful? 🙈
Also what's this bump about?

OP posts:
IsDaveThere · 07/05/2022 18:42

No pain at all and no bump either for me. Do it!!

Choppies · 07/05/2022 18:46

The 6 months is just where you have to be careful keeping in clean to prevent infections but it only really hurts for a few days then settles. I love my nose ring and still have it in 24/7 at 29…

DropYourSword · 07/05/2022 18:46

Makes your eyes water as it's pierced and maybe a little tender for a few days.
I've had a LOT of piercings and have never had a "bump"
You definitely aren't too old!

User1234567891011121314 · 07/05/2022 18:51

I had it done in the 90s and don't remember any pain or swelling or aftercare advice! I still wear mine and I'm 39!

DurhamDurham · 07/05/2022 18:57

I just had mine done today! I'm 51 and was going to get it done after my daughter's wedding but before I went to the Isle of Wight festival. But I thought, do you know what, I'm going to get it done now and was only slightly dreading telling our eldest daughter who is the one getting married......she loves it. I think I suit it and my husband likes it too.

It did hurt and make my eyes water, totally worth it!

SpaceJamtart · 07/05/2022 19:01

Definitly not too old, but also anyone new that you meet won't know when you had it done, you could have had it since you were 16.
I think they suit a lot of people but maybe look best on people with smooth noses, so not especially bumpy or 'boney' looking

Zonder · 07/05/2022 19:04

No pain, no bump, no 6 months to heal and I swam a few days later. I did lose my stud in the pool though and had to get another! Much easier than pierced ears. And you're very young. Go for it!

Mol1628 · 07/05/2022 19:16

I has mine done at 31.

so much less drama than a cartilage piercing! My cartilage piercings hurt for months! My nose was just a bit tender for a day.

I still went swimming after the first couple of weeks. I just took a saline spray to clean it out straight after. You’re not supposed to though.

Go for it you won’t regret it. I think they suit everyone.

FabulousKilljoys · 07/05/2022 19:29

I got my tongue pierced at 38 and my nose at 38. I'm 45 now and still love how they look

FabulousKilljoys · 07/05/2022 19:30

Nose at 39 that should say. Daft phone.

Ahhh yesss! Good for you! Did they use the needle or the gun?
When I was chatting with them today I said I wants a small stud not a good and the recommended using the gun. I was abit cautious though because I had a upper ear gun piercing 15 years ago and the cart threw around the back of the stud! They told me that piercings have changed a lot since then so would be fine 😬
They didn't use the word gun but o can't remember what they called it 🙈

Mol1628 · 07/05/2022 20:18

Don’t get it done with a gun. You will almost definitely have problems.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 07/05/2022 20:21

Pondering about getting my Tragus pierced wanted it do at 40. I'm 45 next month, that and a cover up of an old dodgy tat

ermagerdabear · 07/05/2022 20:22

I had my nose pierced at 43. You should have it done with the needle, as far as I'm aware. Any reputable piercer won't use a gun (had my conch and top of ear cartilage done a few years ago with studs and she used a needle for that too). I didn't get a bump with my nose piercing and it was only sore for a couple of weeks really. I stopped noticing it after a few weeks.

MardyOldGoth · 07/05/2022 20:22

Had mine done at 17 and still wear it now in my 40s. I had no problems with healing and I've never had a bump on or around it. Just take care of it as you would an earlobe piercing.

ohfook · 07/05/2022 20:26

I'm 40 and have one. I can't stand the concept of too old though and actively rail against it!

I trained in ear piercing and we were told to never use a gun on anything other than soft tissue. Anything on cartilage should be pierced with a needle.

I'm 51 and going to get mine done sometime soon. Had both my daith ms done last year. Just waiting for allergy season to die down before I go and get my nose done. You are never too old op. I'm also trying to decide on my first tattoo as well 😁
