Do your kids get an extra half term day on Fri 27th??

Ours do and I'm wondering how many other schools have done the same?

If we have odd teacher training days I like to try to do popular museums etc as they won't be as busy if lots are still in school!

No, all mine had an extra day on the friday before feb half term (which was also not the same week for all the kids). It was to make up for the extra bank holiday in May.

Bringonsummer19 · 04/05/2022 22:29

No mine haven’t, I have a couple of friends who are teachers who are upset at not getting the extra day off

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2022 22:34

Ours are breaking up a day early, but really with no sense of where people saying yes or no are from or whereabout you want to go, it's fairly pointless.

Mine are off on Monday 6th June instead

JustATomCat · 04/05/2022 22:44

Nope. Ours is in June.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/05/2022 22:44

Yes, ours is the Friday.

FusionChefGeoff · 04/05/2022 23:06

We'd usually head somewhere fairly mainstream where most people would be travelling eg Legoland / science museum so location doesn't matter that much and so far it's looking like it's not that popular with other schools so we could be on for something!

Yes, ours are off the Fri 27 AND Mon 6th! Extra long half term.

My thoughts being that if every school in the West Mids is off and nowhere else is, then Lego Land Brum or Dudley Castle isn't a great idea. If you're in Leeds however going to a Northern SeaLife Centre would be fine.

Sweetchillidumplings · 04/05/2022 23:15

West Yorks and yes, it’s an inset day here.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/05/2022 23:19

The extra day is in July here. South Yorkshire.

I only realised yesterday that Monday 30th isn't a bank holiday, and its the Thursday/Friday instead of that week.

If their school follows STPCD, they should be. Directed time this academic year for a full-time teacher is 194 days (189 + 5 INSETs) rather than the usual 195. If they haven't been given an extra day somewhere (could have been at any point in the year, not just this term) then I suggest they ask SLT about it.

Of course, if they're an academy, then academies can choose their own rules! But people should then check their contracts, as if it states they're entitled to all bank holidays they may be able to claim the extra day.

If they don't get the day, I feel sorry for them!

My kids are on half term that week so are off anyway. The CF teachers have decided to finish a day early in July to get another day off Blush

Why are they cheeky fuckers? Surely that means your kids are off that extra day too? It's not like the teachers are just giving themselves an extra day off just because. Are teachers not allowed to take the bank holiday like the rest of the country? Confused

ThanksItHasPockets · 05/05/2022 00:02

West Midlands. 27th May is an INSET day for my DC. The school where I work is an academy and we had the BH lieu day before October half term.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 05/05/2022 07:10

My kids' schools had the extra day at Oct half term, and I know a few others who did the same.

TheChosenTwo · 05/05/2022 07:16

@Bringonsummer19 there are 189 teaching days this year rather than the usual 190.
We are being given the day off at the very end of the summer term so we are finishing on a Thursday rather than a Friday.

MadameMinimes · 05/05/2022 07:18

CF teachers decided nothing. Hmm The school year was shortened by central government from the usual 195 days to 194 and schools were told to nominate a day of their choosing as the additional bank holiday anywhere in the academic year. We took ours in early December. If you don’t like it, it’s the education secretary you need to blame.

Vsirbdo · 05/05/2022 07:20

We have one the following Monday for my primary school age kids (as in Monday after half term) but nothing extra for secondary school one

Alexaplaysomething · 05/05/2022 07:20

Ours is in July so I've got to lose 1 day annual leave that I would normally take during the 6weeks to cover for it, and I cant work the actual bank holiday to avoid losing this annual leave for the "inset" day as my work is closed on the real bank holiday. 🙄

cliffdiver · 05/05/2022 07:22

My school had our extra day before Easter.

DDs have their extra day at the end of the summer term.

MinglingFlamingo · 05/05/2022 07:27

We had the extra day at Christmas instead

How offensive. What's CF about them having the days off their entitled too? Do you consider yourself a CF when you have your time off?

reluctantbrit · 05/05/2022 07:35

SE London, secondary in a trust with several primaries - no we don't. But our school. pooled most inset days together and we have two weeks October half-term now.

We only have a day after the Christmas holidays and one in July when they have induction day for the Y7.

sanityisamyth · 05/05/2022 07:38

In May? No. My DS school have given the kids a very long weekend in June (Friday and Monday off) so a friend and I are taking both children to Center Parcs - much cheaper than going during the official holidays!
