Pregnant and weird bloke in supermarket

Probably just me!!

Myself and DP were stood in a supermarket line waiting to pay. Young guy was in front of us (I’d say about 23) on his own and kept discreetly turning around to look specifically just at me (and my pregnant stomach). I am currently 7 months pregnant.

I said to DP have you noticed what I have noticed? He said yep and ‘he clearly hasn’t seen a pregnant woman before’

god knows if it was me he was looking at or not but he must have turned around 10 times in the space of 5 minutes …. odd! He then looked around one last time and smiled at DP!!

Anyone else gotten ‘the stares’ before whilst pregnant? I thought I’d share as I just thought it was bizarre 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ it's not like I had on anything skimpy. Just maternity jeans, a top and jacket that I usually wear.

Maybe he has a pregnant girlfriend at home and you are the first pregnant woman he’s seen with such a big (7 month I mean) bump?

I remember trying jeans on in a pregnancy shop and I was laughing with DH about the fake bump they had to put in the jeans so you could see how you looked. DH was laughing saying how he couldn’t imagine me with a big bump when a heavily pregnant woman piped up that I’d get much bigger than that. DH’s jaw dropped a little when he clocked her bump & she laughed and said “it’s amazing, you can’t believe you will get this big can you? But you will!”

maybe he smiled at your DH because he’s thinking how he can’t wait for his DP to have a bump like yours?

Lol do you think you're the only pregnant woman in the world? How dare a man look at you. Maybe he liked your shoes? Who cares?

Greatoutdoors · 02/05/2022 18:27

I expect there’s something going on in his own life that made him take an interest

Certainly don't think that what a way to twist it 😂😂

Perhaps yeah, we were not rude at all just smiled back.

You get lots of stares in the last couple of months. Most just curious, some nostalgic, some envious, some sympathetic Grin

What a weird response

AlasEarwacs · 02/05/2022 19:22

@StrangeCondition who else would post of a forum site about how a man kept looking at her because she was pregnant? This thread is so bizarre.

So what if he kept looking at her

watcherintherye · 02/05/2022 19:23

Maybe he was slightly concerned that you ugly go into labour at the till! Grin

watcherintherye · 02/05/2022 19:23

Ugly = might. Don’t know how that got there! Blush

Very possibly this.

I’m at the stage of starting to show and I keep staring at other women wearing loose clothing to work out if they are also pregnant, and if so is it a flattering outfit that I should copy. I’m sure I’ve weirded lots of people out.

GroggyLegs · 02/05/2022 19:25

I'd also assume he's got a pregnant partner & was having a moment of realising what's to come.

Or yes a weird perv who gets off on pregnant women (sorry).

I must admit, I think pregnant women are pretty amazing & beautiful (yes, I know it can feel shitty from personal experience but it looks very special) but I don't goggle at them in shops.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 02/05/2022 19:31

it's so difficult to know what was going on. Maybe his partner is pregnant, maybe he has experienced a miscarriage or loss of a baby, maybe he's never really been that close to a pregnant woman, maybe he was nervous about you potentially suddenly going into Labour. A close relative of mine always goes out of their way to smile or acknowledge parents with a child in a wheelchair. Sometimes it can look like they are being judgemental or OTT but actually they lost a child who had a life limiting illness.

girlmom21 · 02/05/2022 19:35

It doesn't sound like there was any malice.
The looks are more welcomed than the comments!

plinkplinkfizzer · 02/05/2022 19:41

I had this about thirty yrs ago on a bus , he was sitting in the seat opposite us . It's strange but I do think a lot of people have never seen baby bump close up and they just find it fascinating close up . It was summer I was wearing light clothes .

GwendolenAbott · 02/05/2022 20:01

I had a lot of men staring at me whilst I was pregnant, it made me feel so uncomfortable. I even had a man ask me out on a date at 8 months pregnant!

JulyDreams · 02/05/2022 20:05

Glad it's not just me 😂 I don't get it so much at work as the guys all there know me.

It's quite sweet but odd in a way

I once stared at a pregnant woman's bump because it was moving about - I was horrified! I kept envisaging the scene from Alien.

When I later had my own pregnancy and baby, I had a chuckle to myself at how naive I was about it all Grin

Qwill · 02/05/2022 20:18

I’d not really noticed pregnant women before, until I became pregnant. I would imagine his partner is also pregnant (hence the smile to your husband). Also now do the pram nod with other people who are pushing them. Bit like the bus driver nod 😂

GodspeedJune · 02/05/2022 20:24

Hopefully I’m wrong could he have been a weird pervert about pregnant women. The smile to your DP at the end is a bit yuck.

HiCandles · 02/05/2022 20:25

Many people have never been up close to a bump/pregnant woman. It may just have been he was interested - when you really appreciate there's an actual human growing inside someone, it's weird and fascinating at the same time. It doesn't sound like he was being inappropriate and smiling at your DH could have been like a well done. I was astonished at how many men shook my DH's hand and said well done mate on hearing our news, friends and my father included!

woodenwindchimes · 02/05/2022 20:59

A weird person looked at you.
Or someone who maybe lost a baby, cannot get his wife pregnant, etc. etc. etc.

Either way this won't be the weirdest thing that happens to you in life. You've been lucky to get this far.

JulyDreams · 04/05/2022 15:39

Thanks for comments everyone. Yes the smile at DP was weird, I didn't notice but he did!

No problem with people staring really in general.

JulyDreams · 04/05/2022 15:40

Also I'm not really that big for how far along I am, maybe he was wondering if I am pregnant or just bloated 😂
