Pregnant and weird bloke in supermarket

Probably just me!!

Myself and DP were stood in a supermarket line waiting to pay. Young guy was in front of us (I’d say about 23) on his own and kept discreetly turning around to look specifically just at me (and my pregnant stomach). I am currently 7 months pregnant.

I said to DP have you noticed what I have noticed? He said yep and ‘he clearly hasn’t seen a pregnant woman before’

god knows if it was me he was looking at or not but he must have turned around 10 times in the space of 5 minutes …. odd! He then looked around one last time and smiled at DP!!

Anyone else gotten ‘the stares’ before whilst pregnant? I thought I’d share as I just thought it was bizarre 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ it's not like I had on anything skimpy. Just maternity jeans, a top and jacket that I usually wear.

I carried large. Very large. As in regular arguments with randomers that there really was only one baby, and I really wasn't expecting to go into labour for 2-3 more months. I found it bizzarre that so many random people would insist that they thought they knew what was going on in my body better than me, the sonographers and MWs.

I also learned BSL for "whoa! Check out the bumps on them, they're HUGE!" 😂

Most people were lovely. I did startle some though as until very late, I still looked size 8 from the back until I/they turned and the 43" waist became evident 😂

He's obviously got a raging fetish for pregnant women and was probably filling his pants while locking eyes with your partner. Maybe he ran home afterwards to draw an erotic memento of you to pin up next to all his other lewd sketches of expectant mothers spotted in local retail outlets.

Baby bumps aren't very pleasant to look at, stomach is all distended- it is a bit repulsive.

But maybe it was a bit like a horror film- he both wanted to look away but also wanted to look at the same time.

…what an odd thing to say

When I was (fucking enormous) with my massive twins I was lurking in m&s (as the urban legend was if you went into Labour there they’d give you a load of free stuff) when a man came round the corner and stared open mouthed at my bump, then he went “oh my god!”, he just didn’t stop staring. I was really upset, it was so blatant and rude. He seemed to stalk me round the shop. Eventually I said “is there a problem?” He just said, “you’re huge” “ yes I fucking know” I burst into tears, went home and didn’t go out till after they were born. Why, because he felt he had the right to.

Not so much when pregnant but I clearly remember being in the supermarket when I had my toddler and 3 week old baby with me (and DH was there too). This man kept staring at me and finally came over and said smiling ‘blimey you have your hands full with 3!’ I laughed thinking he meant kids +DH (couldn’t understand what else he meant). He then said ‘yes 1’ points to toddler, ‘2’ points to baby and ‘3’ and then he POKED me in the fucking stomach! I mean seriously yes I still look a bit rotund but seriously I have a 3 week old!!! Maths clearly not his strong point…. I was so upset!

Hmm

He might have noticed you were pregnant and was about to say something because his partner is also pregnant but after the first glance he suddenly panicked and worried if you were not actually pregnant then you'd be offended.
Then he couldn't resist checking again to make sure.

God there are some weird comments on here 😂

The smile at your partner more suggests he's not a raging perv or having unpleasant thoughts. More likely has a newly pregnant partner as OP's have suggested. Another alternative is he might have some additional support needs so not so good at knowing about social norms like staring and fascinated by seeing something different.

Wheelz46 · 05/05/2022 07:21

I don't remember anyone staring when I was expecting apart from before I announced it and colleagues were wondering if it was weight gain or a bun in the oven 🤣

What I did get and found pretty infuriating is strangers feeling the need to pop their hand on my bump, it was only elderly ladies that did it, still so rude, personal space please. I recommend the tshirt you can buy 'hands off the bump' the hands part is usually a handprint! 😅

Cocobeau · 05/05/2022 10:03

I wonder if he smiled at your partner because it dawned on him that he might have come across as a bit too eyesy on a pregnant woman and wanted to show in his young, awkward way that he wasn't trying to be a creep.
