Netflix costs

I'm sure that Netflix has doubled in cost since I signed up to it. Does anyone else find this extortionate?

Surely they have grown their customer base since then & don't really need to double what we pay them?!

I signed up about 8 years ago and mine hasn't doubled. It 5.99 a month when I signed up and is 8.99 a month now.

MiniatureHotdog · 02/05/2022 15:17

Nope. We signed up at £5.99 a month a few years ago. It's just gone up to £6.99. Still good value I think.

I couldn't believe just how many people are faux outraged that they'll cut down on password sharing (which is basically theft, you don't pay any other bill, council tax, house insurance etc and then expect to share it with other households for free). Maybe if all this people had paid fairly to begin with they wouldn't have to increase prices.

I pay £ 13.99 per month, can't remember what it started as a good few years ago but feels astonishing good value compared to my £ 100+ per month Sky bill!!

skippy67 · 02/05/2022 15:18

I've just checked. I was paying £5.99 in 2017 and now pay 9.99. And I think it's going up again soon to £10.99. So yeah, you're right. I might cancel it for a while.

twoandcooplease · 02/05/2022 15:20

Wow don't get me started. I have a little notebook that I write messages to ds in and will give him when he's older. In one of my entries I've written about me telling DP it's gone up to £13.99. We only have it because ds loves Mr Bean. We are barely using it and the content recently had been atrocious and definitely not worth the money. When I first signed up it was £3.99. It's now nearly £170 for the year

Partypoooooper · 02/05/2022 15:23

I think we pay around £9-10 which I feel is good value for us, we watch something on there most days.

Have cancelled Disney + as only being used by DD occasionally, she hasn't even noticed it's gone yet.

liverpoolgal82 · 02/05/2022 15:24

Go to your settings and change your package. There are three. They upgrade you without letting you know (they did me anyway). Went to settings and changed it from £13.99 back to £6.99. There’s also a £10.99 option (depending on how many devices you want to have using it at once and whether you’d like HD or SD. I only knew about this by reading someone online say they’d been upgraded without notice from Netflix .

TheCanyon · 02/05/2022 16:01

Ours was going up to 15.99, joined 9 years ago when it was about a fiver. The kids are missing it but imo there's bugger all on it worth 16 quid.

gamerchick · 02/05/2022 16:03

Yeah I've just noticed it's going up. Changed it to the basic package. We tend to just watch on one device anyway.

oyatra · 02/05/2022 16:07

Mine is 6.99 per month for 1 device. Bargain. Works out at 23pence per day. I can't think of any other entertainment that is so cheap! Well worth it.

DurhamDurham · 02/05/2022 16:16

I think it's good value compared to Sky. We've got Netflix, Prime and Disney. Don't mind paying for them at all. It's Sky that I really resent paying for but husband is determined to keep it.

Southeastdweller · 02/05/2022 16:35

It’s crazy, it’s not like the content is amazing and not worth £10.99 a month. I also think there’s a psychological effect in seeing a new fee of four figures when previously it’d always been three figures. I got rid last month and have a few days left so finishing Ozark before it’s too late. I expect ads to be making an appearance in most of the tiers before year’s end, the company needs to claw back the revenue they’re losing with so many subscribers ending their memberships.

You know a basic plan of one screen and one tablet is £6.99?

That sounds like it would work for you?

SmiledWtherisingsun · 02/05/2022 22:22

What? They have just charged me £15.99!!

It started off around £7.
Why has it increased so much??

Same here.

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 02/05/2022 22:34

We’ve got the £6.99 package and make good use out of it. Tesco club card are doing £8 of vouchers for three months (it was six) which feels acceptable. Had it not been on offer one of them would have been cancelled.

liverpoolgal82 · 02/05/2022 22:37

If you change your package in settings to £6.99 they will credit the difference from £15.99. I change it yesterday & it says I’m in credit and that’ll be used for next month.

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 02/05/2022 22:39

I meant to say Tesco are doing three months of Disney plus for £8 in Clubcard vouchers.

Do you need the UHD, multiple-device package if it's just your child watching a cartoon on it?

HairyToity · 02/05/2022 22:42

I don't mind paying £6.99 per month. The kids watch it more than Prime or Disney. I've cancelled Disney and they've not noticed yet.

£100 per month for Sky is horrendous. My parents pay this. We don't.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 02/05/2022 22:44

I just don’t have a tv package - haven’t for years

i have now tv, Disney & Netflix and then with the bbc, itv & ch4 players - I think it’s pretty affordable monthly - tv packages from sky and virgin etc are extortionate and you have to watch ads

NumbLittlePea · 02/05/2022 23:06

£6.99 per month plus the £12odd saving by not needing a tv license. It works for us
