I'm sure that Netflix has doubled in cost since I signed up to it. Does anyone else find this extortionate?

TBH I’d be lost without Netflix, I’d probably pay £30 pcm if I had to 😂I pay £10 I think that’s cheap for the quality of content

LondonQueen · 03/05/2022 00:01

I recently signed up again but only for the most basic package, sure it was 7.99 for the premium package when I first signed up!

Tippexy · 03/05/2022 00:04

@twoandcooplease downgrade your package!

A message flashed up on my telly the other day saying it was going up to £10.99 a month (not sure how much it currently is as my daughter pays for it)!

Ikeptgoing · 03/05/2022 09:43

I have the multi viewer (up to 4 or 5 can watch different Netflix channels on different devices within household at once)
It used to be 10.99 then 13.99 and is just going ip to 15.99 pmonth . Netflix have lost a lot of the bumper years of subscribers now lockdowns eased.

I am watching what will happen when they spot Uni son watches Netflix when away at Uni if they do location tracking as there is talk of clamping down on "account sharing" but he's part of our household as I'm financially responsible for him still.

Badger1970 · 03/05/2022 09:48

We pay for ours via Sky, and it's £6.99 i think?

I'm watching Anatomy of a Scandal at the moment, and DH loves Ozark so we probably watch more Netflix than Sky....... the Sky bill is around £150 a month as we've got Sky Q and 2 mini boxes upstairs and DH added the Sport/Movie channels on some offer that runs for another 18 months so luckily he's the mug paying the bill for it Hmm

I think your desire to link the price charged to the size of the customer base and what they 'need' to charge is flawed. The last time I looked, they were relying on shareholder funds and loans to bridge a significant gap between revenue and investment/content and hadn't reached 'steady state'. Shareholder confidence in loss-making 'big tech' relies on the prospect of future earnings/growing market share (see Amazon, Google, Meta and Twitter's trajectories) so changes in subscriber numbers, pricing and share price are the complex ingredients in a recipe of moving from growth to sustainably matching revenue and costs. The last time I looked they weren't there yet. The complications of competition with Amazon, Apple and Disney, all of whom don't rely on streaming revenue make things harder. I could be wrong but wouldn't expect predictability about subscription fees soon.

Wow don't get me started. I have a little notebook that I write messages to ds in and will give him when he's older. In one of my entries I've written about me telling DP it's gone up to £13.99. We only have it because ds loves Mr Bean. We are barely using it and the content recently had been atrocious and definitely not worth the money. When I first signed up it was £3.99. It's now nearly £170 for the year

You obviously subscribe to one of the options that lets you watch Netflix on more than one device at the same time. If you barely watch it, there's no need to do so.

Just downgrade to the basic version if you want to save money.

Octomore · 03/05/2022 10:18

Netflix is £6.99 a month for the basic version - this allows you to only watch on one device at a time, but for many households (including mine) that's plenty. I don't need to be able to watch 2 programmes at once in different rooms.

I have been on the basic package for years, I think it was £4.99 originally and went up to £5.99 about 4 years ago. I haven’t been notified that it’s going up to £6.99 but still
think that is good value.

Southeastdweller · 03/05/2022 10:26

The basic version has everything in standard definition, so it’s like watching DVD’s. I like the sharpness of high definition.
