I don't really "get" googling - especially Wiki search! Surely that's a test of your search engine skills, not your knowledge, which is what this is.
For example, for Lagos, if I had figured out it was an African city, but didn't know many googling "large city Africa" would give a list to work through. But that doesn't mean you "got it" just that you looked it up.
I do these -le quizzes for the challenge and the satisfaction, I personally wouldn't feel the same satisfaction if I googled. I'd rather have 458 guesses (which I did recently with one!).

It's also why I do this at 5pm, and Semantle at 1am - to avoid all spoilers, hints, etc floating around the Internet!

This was certainly a test of my search skills, as this is an area where, up to now, I had no knowledge. And I don't think there is any shame there. And now my knowledge has increased to include this subject, so that's a bonus 😀
I would hazard a guess that the percentage of the population who would be able to get this without Googling would be very small indeed.

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 168 guesses with an accuracy of 58.93%. Played at www.redactle.com/

it took me a long times but I really enjoyed that one and learnt a lot along the way 😀

Coralblimey · 02/05/2022 18:11

Group effort today as DC blurted out the answer after I’d given them a pointer, it would have taken me much longer to have got there by myself 🙄

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 6 guesses with an accuracy of 66.67%. Played at www.redactle.com/

6 guesses? I’m not playing anymore <stamps foot>

Coord · 02/05/2022 18:18

Got to 120 guesses with 68% accuracy and then googled and got it in 128. I wouldn't have got it without google.

MoonriseKingdom · 02/05/2022 18:19

The only person I play against is myself. I like to get into it and if I’ve got a general idea but am really stuck I’ll Google. Would definitely never have finished the recent maths one without it. I don’t see why it matters how other people choose to play.

Coralblimey · 02/05/2022 18:21

Tbf he had it in 23 and it’s his area of interest so he should have been a bit more quiet really 😝

Re: googling

The first redactle I did was Frederic Chopin. I got to the point where I knew the answer was Chopin, I had filled in the second half of the answer but I had no idea what Chopin's first name was. I could have tried 500 or so names, and probably still not got the answer but it simply wouldn't have been much fun. Once I had Chopin, I considered that I knew the answer so I simply googled his first name.

iklboo · 02/05/2022 18:22

101 guesses, 82.18% accuracy. Needed to Google a couple of things, mainly for spelling.

It doesn't matter at all. I just can't understand it from my own perspective. Everyone is different, I'm just interested in other people's thought processes I guess.
For me googling is the same as quitting and just getting given the answer but to others it isn't- I find that interesting.

Coord · 02/05/2022 18:24

And for those wondering 'why google...' - because I don't have unlimited time in the day to play it and after a certain point I need to make a call as to whether I'm going to spend much longer on it - which I won't do if I feel like I'm unlikely to get the answer even if I spent the rest of the evening on it.

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 46 guesses with an accuracy of 69.13%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I'd actually been on the exact Wiki page a few days ago, so I think that was rather embarrassingly long time before the penny dropped.

That is a good point and an excellent example. Thank you! I totally get that. You had the answer anyway.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/05/2022 18:26

Thought I had tried this word much earlier in my list of guesses, which is a tad annoying. I got the broad theme with my first word today.

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 38 guesses with an accuracy of 73.68%. Played at www.redactle.com/

User12398712 · 02/05/2022 18:29

For the "no point in googling" people, would you consider using a book cheating? I knew that [redacted] [redacted] won an oscar for best female lead in Out of Africa. We always used to have a copy of Halliwells in the house (DP is a film buff) but he stopped buying them when all the information became easily available on the internet. If you had a Halliwells, would you have used it for a film question?

drspouse · 02/05/2022 18:31

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 69 guesses with an accuracy of 86.96%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I did Google but it didn't help me at all!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2022 18:33

I could have got todays quicker with googling but was enjoying it without and was pretty sure I'd be able to get it.

Yesterday I was floundering on the wrong track having noticed some patterns that had to be numbers. Having got 6-3-3-4, which didn't fit my hypothesis, I googled just that and it lead me to the Nigerian educational system. So that was sufficient shove in the right direction. That was quite fun rather than a slog.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/05/2022 18:33

not too bad,
googled
You solved it in 98 guesses
Your accuracy was 40.82%
You have solved 11 consecutive Redactles

MrsElm · 02/05/2022 18:34

For me it's not 'just googling' .
Today I googled lots of terms and each got me a bit closer, but I was really starting from a base line of zero.
And agree with the poster re time, I don't want to spend the whole evening typing in random words which will never lead me to the answer!

But then, why not just quit? And get given the answer? Saves spending time googling. Play for a set amount of time, then quit.
I just wonder if people feel the same satisfaction from googling and see "You solved it in X" as they would had they done it without googling? Or do they feel the same as they would if they had quit?

To me, it would be like copying a few of someone else's answers in an exam because you're stuck, and then posting "I got a B" when yes, technically you did, but also you didn't!
Does that person feel the same on results day as the person they copied - as they both got a B? I suspect they might.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 02/05/2022 18:37

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 106 guesses with an accuracy of 70.75%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Featuredcreature · 02/05/2022 18:39

I don't have the patience for 600 guesses, that's why I Google, think the highest guess count I have had is 270 on Semantle. On Redactle if you literally know barely anything about a subject, you could be there 2000 guesses later none the wiser.

drspouse · 02/05/2022 18:40

I worked out yesterday's was a place, either a city or a country, so I tried all the continents as there are only a few!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/05/2022 18:41

for yesterday i got it was an island and i got victoria, and that firstly could have been canada, i have to google a lot but that is how i play

Interesting. I don't think I would, no.
For that one I also knew straightaway it was Out of Africa, but couldn't for the life of me remember who starred in it, but I didn't Google.

I'm totally willing to accept that I'm the weird one here - after all, who the fuck actually cares if I Google " Out of Africa"? Precisely no one. I'm sure this is all linked to our childhood experiences anyway! 😂

DressingGownofDoom · 02/05/2022 18:42

I solved today's Redactle (#26) in 105 guesses with an accuracy of 55.24%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I did google a small amount. I suppose technically it's cheating, but i end up learning a lot about things I wouldn't have otherwise.
