When I was little, we called it “The whizzer” I think because you could fast-forward (aka whizz) through videos.

QueenOfDuisburg · 27/04/2022 23:10

The presser.

TherapistInATabard · 27/04/2022 23:11

The blip

champagneplanet · 27/04/2022 23:12

Telly thing / thing for the telly when I was growing up.

It's now the TV remote, as we (DH Wink) seem to have accumulated several remotes for different devices.

LadyCatStark · 27/04/2022 23:13

Growing up, it was the zapper but DH laughed at me so it’s a plain old remote now 😞.

TherapistInATabard · 27/04/2022 23:13

Or the ‘merote’, which was one of DD’s many spoonerisms when she was little. We all still say mazagine too 🤗

ShirleyNo · 27/04/2022 23:14

The didge

Hortensiateapot · 27/04/2022 23:15

Forestdweller11 · 27/04/2022 23:17

The buttons or the TV handset

Bergamotte · 27/04/2022 23:18

The doofer

(Or the remote control when talking to people outside of our family)

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 27/04/2022 23:18

The remote.

Or the "where-the-fuck-are-you-I just-had-you-a-minute-ago."

Louise0701 · 27/04/2022 23:19

The telemote

FourChimneys · 27/04/2022 23:20

Zapper.

SmiledWtherisingsun · 27/04/2022 23:21

Remote (control)

RoyalGoat · 27/04/2022 23:21

The buttons

We have 3 different buttons, and one is always missing.

I once sellotaped all 3 together to create "The Megatron" but it didn't last, and one set of buttons is missing again.

Is this a regional thing as never heard this word any family or friends?!

he’s West Midlands (popper) I’m south East (clicker). I think popper must be some weird family thing he has!

where are all the doofer people from as I’ve never heard that!!

Remote
Controller
Doofer
Zapper
And/or
Hand signal pressing thumb repeatedly up and down

ClinkeyMonkey · 27/04/2022 23:29

The remote. Occasionally 'that bastard remote' if it's hiding. Or the doo dah if I'm having a menopausal moment.

MatildaJayne · 27/04/2022 23:29

The remote or the oofer doofer. The second of which might come from Noel Edmonds Telly Addicts, embarrassingly.

CiderWithLizzie · 27/04/2022 23:30

Remote or dopper

Xmasbaby11 · 27/04/2022 23:31
