What job would you never do, even if you were paid a million pounds a year and had all the training in the world

For me, it's a commercial pilot. I just would never trust myself to make the right decision in a situation of distress. I'm in awe of pilots

Skyscraper window cleaner

Yes I think this too. Jelly legs!
And for the same reason, lorry driver. I don't like motorway driving, but maybe I'd feel differently in a lorry and you can't go that fast.
Dog walker/groomer/anything involving dogs

If I were earning a million pounds a year for it I could probably deal with the smelly stuff like being a dentist and dealing with peoples' horrible mouths or emptying out sewers, although all the training in the world wouldn't give me the manual dexterity to be a dentist.

Soubriquet · 27/04/2022 10:22

Dog food tester

DangerouslyBored · 27/04/2022 11:39

Anything that involved hurting or causing suffering to animals. Abattoir / laboratory / livestock farming.

Inner city secondary school teacher. Terrifying

Mayonnaise tester, spider farmer.

Spider farmer 😱

Daenerys77 · 27/04/2022 11:43

Anything that required me to leave the house.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2022 12:06

Pest control

weneedtotalkaboutezra · 27/04/2022 12:09

Anything with any admin, ever again. Because I hate it so much and would not even be a secretary if you paid me a million pounds a second. I'd much rather just never have to think about admin ever again my entire life.

ageismintheuk · 27/04/2022 12:14

Went for an interview once in a very swish building in Mayfair - some sort of armaments business.

All very well looking at a genuine Picasso opposite your desk but knowing it’s been bought by selling arms to Assad or the like. Wasn’t for me.

Deathraystare · 28/04/2022 09:00

I can already see that there are much worse jobs (abbottoir work, sewage worker) but....I would hate to work in a call centre. Don't approve of the job anyway and if I was there I would be sacked because of my over active bladder!! I was always worried when I was unemployed that I would be pushed to work at one.

maudesvagina · 28/04/2022 09:02

Social worker
Foster carer

steppemum · 28/04/2022 09:20

What an interesting question.

For me, some of them are that no matter how much training, I don't think I have the ability.
air traffic controller/pilot - I don't think my spacial skills are good enough, and you can't train that in. So I am pretty sure I'd make a mistake.

But most of the others I would be prepared to do if I had to.
eg I eat meat, so I should be willing to work in an abattoir (although I'd hate it)

The ones I would refuse to do are all for me on moral grounds.
eg arms seller
con artist
call centre - selling things, not help centres
abortionist

etc

I worked in an abattoir on the kill line. Our processing plant would dispatch 10,000 chickens an hour and 900 pigs a day. They are not given food or water for a 24/48 hours before being processed to minimize waste.

I'm vegan now!

@SilverSplitsTheBlue

Would you consider doing an AMA?

CakeWedge · 12/06/2022 12:13

Sales. I just don't have any interest in selling anything.

Anything PR-bullshitty.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 12/06/2022 12:15

I am a Chiropodist, and would never want to be anything to do with cleaning, bins or sewage.
Being a carer or Dentist, pest control or sex worker also would fill me with dread.

AclowncalledAlice · 12/06/2022 12:51

Anything involving dead things, driving or people....my dream is to be a wfh hermit.

ReneBumsWombats · 12/06/2022 12:55

Be Donald Trump's wife.

TabithaTittlemouse · 12/06/2022 12:58

Teacher. I am in awe of people who do it and do it well but I couldn’t control 30 children and keep a smile on my face. As for dealing with parents, no thank you.

I could/would do most things tbh, but what I couldn't do would be to in the sort of first lady role/ CEO wife where I had to make inane small talk with random people and keep smiling and being nice to them whatever I thought day after day while wearing high heels.
I'd be rubbish at being a nanny, actor, dancer, singer but maybe training would help

Babyroobs · 12/06/2022 13:28

NellesVilla · 26/04/2022 22:18

Working- in any capacity at all- in an abbatoir

Yes same here .

LetHimHaveIt · 12/06/2022 13:35

Work in a betting shop, or as a bailiff/debt collector.

Or in an abattoir.

CluelessHamster · 12/06/2022 13:45

Pearbear · 26/04/2022 22:24

Be a zoo keeper in the reptile house, massive phobia’s

I'll work in the reptile house but it's a hard Nope to the spider house 😅

GreenWhiteViolet · 12/06/2022 14:07

Presuming the training is good enough to give me the right skills even for jobs I think I'd be rubbish at, I'd still refuse:

  • abbatoir work or similar, as I'm a vegetarian and wouldn't be able to cope
  • anything in front of a camera or requiring being a public figure, because the criticism would be too much and wouldn't go away when I quit the job.
For a million pounds a year, I'd cope with fatbergs, heights, bodily fluids, etc. Even if I wouldn't like it.
