What job would you never do, even if you were paid a million pounds a year and had all the training in the world

For me, it's a commercial pilot. I just would never trust myself to make the right decision in a situation of distress. I'm in awe of pilots

Tory MP. I couldn’t be that much of a prick for any money.

Working- in any capacity at all- in an abbatoir

Exactly what I was going to say. Just the thought of it makes me shudder

silentpool · 26/04/2022 22:25

Mortician

Moveorstay2022 · 26/04/2022 22:25

Re : medical - I think I would be ok because you rarely are the sole person responsible, there's a team of medics around to support you, and I feel that you could be trained to deal with any type of eventuality (it's unlikely you'd come across a problem not seen before or that you've been trained on iyswim)

Air traffic controller. I’m fascinated by it but the consequences of a mistake…

tinkerbellvspredator · 26/04/2022 22:26

Lots of these jobs being mentioned I would hate but for £1m I would do them. I think it's only real fear ones I couldn't - for me that's heights and rollercoasters so skyscraper window cleaner, skydiving instructor things like that.
Don't like the idea of pilot or surgeon because of lives being in your hands but probably after all that training I would be OK!

Trepo · 26/04/2022 22:28

Anything that involves interacting with a lot of people everyday in person or on the phone, call centre, gp, customer service etc I just couldn't do it, it would make me too anxious.

Re: mortician

There was a fascinating AMA from a Funeral Director recently. They really do have respect for their clients.

Military - I couldn't see myself being able to cope with possibly being killed or killing as part of my job.

I would willingly defend my country, myself and others from invasion or any threat, but I couldn’t see myself blindly following orders, especially from corrupt leaders.

Be a religious figure, based on my perspectives of why should any humans have to bow and give up freedom and follow a prescribed set of beliefs from books, written 're written , 're translated ect by humans

Just came on to say this

FindMeInTheSunshine · 26/04/2022 22:30

Any kind of job where you became famous. The idea of not being able to walk down the street, or go to the supermarket without people watching you, or having private moments photographed and published fills me with horror.

SoMuchToBits · 26/04/2022 22:30

Steeplejack (scared of heights). Submariner (too claustrophobic). Also military stuff.

Do deal with poo/bodily fluids etc as part of my regular job.

MaryAndHerNet · 26/04/2022 22:31

I couldn't work with kids or animals in any kind of distress.

So a vet, couldn't do because of the putting to sleep etc.

Also..
Social workers need to have their paid tripled, quadrupled, whatever it needs to get them to be very well paid. The work they do must be absolutely gut wrenching at times...

I could, however, break up fatballs of shite in a sewer.. that wouldn't bother me so much.

beachcomber70 · 26/04/2022 22:33

I could not be a surgeon, nor do an autopsy. Just no.

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 22:33

drinkingwineoutofamug · 26/04/2022 22:35

@QuebecBagnet you should have your own thread just about working clearing fat balls.

I'm an nurse and I take my hat off to you! Not saying that being a nurse is any better.

I came on to say this too 🤮

I also wouldn't want to be a carer for adults. I don't mind wiping my toddlers bum but not an adults.

Although the money would come in handy
