Ah, lottery win dreams.

I’ve just had to have a stern word with myself after wasting an hour of my life debating which property I am going to buy when I win the lottery tonight.

Torn between out in the country side and in the city. Pouring over floor plans to see where dh could have a study and which one has the best layout for the children.

In my head, I’ve won 2.5 million (this is my wildest fantasy, but I’m being realistic, I don’t know why, ffs).

The house I might get in the nearish the city centre where ds works is 1 million. But no off road parking.

I’m sat here worrying about the parking situation of a house I will never own.

Please tell me I am not alone in doing this?

Oh and of course schools. One house was perfect but the local schools were awful.

So then I start looking at close by independents for the younger children…

Maybe I should just spend an hour doing the DIY on this house as I am supposed to be doing instead of procrastinating.

Oh I do this all the time but I’ll need a euromillions win for the London property I want! I would want off road parking for a house costing a million though.

Pinklimey · 25/04/2022 16:55

Its easy to get lost in these dreams. Its why these gambling companies are so successful. Sometimes I dream of being able to have a house with a garden.

Strawberry0909 · 25/04/2022 16:56

Ah you are not alone, many a nap time spent doing this (DS2 contact naps)

I also like to keep the 'win' on lower end , 3 mil max

I have a couple properties lined up..if only my numbers would come up!

forlornlorna1 · 25/04/2022 16:57

Every time my dh and I talk about what we'd spend the dosh on if we won the lotto....we end up arguing 😂 so we've stopped playing lol .

Top of my list would be to be able to go private for a health problem I have and home tutors for my ASD daughter

Exactly this afternoons dilemma!

Slightly different but I play a game with myself where we have to relocate and I randomly choose an area and then I have to have a look at the most expensive properties in the area as well as the ones that we could afford and I whittle them down to find the one which is the closes to being a dream home and I save the details.

I then compare it with other dream houses from other areas and then have a winner that I follow until it is sold and I feel a little sad when it finally is sold.

HippyChickMama · 25/04/2022 17:06

Dh and I once had an argument over whether we would have a swimming pool in our house if we won the lottery. We don't even enter the lottery 😂

LisaSimpson73 · 25/04/2022 17:10

I like my win to be as high as possible, then I would give all my favourite people 1mil each and we'd live in contented luxury together.
I've chosen the house I'll buy and it's handily close to ds school so that's good.

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 25/04/2022 17:15

When dh and I play this game together, it always winds him up that I look for places with a study for him.

We’ve won 2.5 million and spent - million plus on a house. He’d still have to work. I mean, maybe he could go part time or contract, he loves his job.

He always looks at me like I’ve gone mad and says “well in my fucking fantasy, we’ve won 50 million and I’m employing a house keeper to do my share of the housework and I’m spending the rest of my days sat on my arse” 😄

He gets very angry that in my fantasy, we’ve won the lottery but he still works from home.

I often daydream about this.. ☺️ I'd collect the kids from school with a suitcase of new clothes for us all packed and we'd be off somewhere warm until the house of my dreams is furnished and ready.. how I keep it from my stbxh is another matter entirely 😆

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 25/04/2022 17:25

I have a cover story planned out too. I used to write, so I shall tell people that something I wrote got sold to be a TV pilot. It will never materialise, but hey, I’ll get paid.

I spend far too much time thinking about this.

I'd give the kids a lot of the money !
They are in their 20s.
I often day dream about a big win too

beguilingeyes · 25/04/2022 17:38

I've always got a lottery house in my head...just so I'm prepared. It's De Beauvoir Square in London at the moment.
There was one a while back that had five bedrooms and five bathrooms (practical).
I'm always illogically upset when they sell.

I’m going to buy my 20 year old a city centre flat as well.

I have an actual spreadsheet planning out my lottery winnings Blush. It means I can update it depending on how much the jackpot is. It's currently set up for the £114m Euromillions on Tuesday. It includes a budget for a new house, paying off our current mortgage, a pot for DC's uni fees, some updating of our current house, upgrading flights to first class for our summer holiday, 'fun' money, cars, etc etc.

Then once I've splashed out about £2m on immediate spends, I've then worked out the income (assuming 0.5% return), what the tax bill would be, how much to put into trust for DC and what DH's and mine income would be. i.e. could we afford to leave our current jobs. I decided £114m might not be sufficient to pay for the upkeep on a £10m house and one of us (DH) should probably still work, just to be on the safe side Grin

Oh good lord that is a superb idea.

I am supposed to be grouting the bathroom tiles during dds nap tomorrow, but I shall be
creating my own lottery win spreadsheet instead..

I have my cliff top home in Portugal planned out quite clearly in my head although I'm really struggling with where I want the stairs to go.

Theunamedcat · 25/04/2022 17:54

Did it this afternoon I want a modest win 1.4 million buy my friends house hide this fact from my ex husband (i rent) buy my eldest a place to live and a home elsewhere then I will work from home and next time my ex fucks off or fucks up I'm fucking off too to a better area I will get my sister somewhere to live too

ButtockUp · 25/04/2022 17:58

There was a Euromillions win fairly recently of 188 million euros and my husband and I talked at length about 'what if...?'

I'd love a house with an adapted granny annexe so that my elderly and frail mum could live independently from us but we'd be on hand to help and have a cuppa and a matter.

Our twenty something children would be sorted and we'd have a modest little boat to chug along the river ( which, obviously, our property would be next to.

To be honest , the vast bulk of it would have to go to charity as we can't 'take it with us' as it were.

We'd focus on smaller and more niche charities that often don't get a look in.

I know that there are many philanthropists in the world but so very many uber rich folk just hoard it all to no end.

Blossomtoes · 25/04/2022 18:00

My fantasy involves staying exactly where we are because we’d spend most of our lives on holiday. We’d give our four adult kids £250k each and blow the rest.

If I won a huge amount, I would do something to help women who have fled domestic violence or single mothers to be able to rent affordable places without having to beg and a scrape to estate agents and being made to feel like scum if they need to claim UC to pay the rent (been there, done that and it’s soul destroying).

If I won any amount, I’d pay off the mortgage on this house and give it to a family who needed it. I’d ask the local church/charities to find a local family to give the house too.

I had a real dilemma about wether the small 1 bed house right by the beach on Rightmove would be big enough to live in as a permanent home. It cost 1 million, so decided I’d need an euro millions win to buy a bigger house and the beach house as a holiday home.

Why would you have to hide it from your ex? It wouldn't be anything to do with him.

Candleabra · 25/04/2022 19:12

I love that you have a realistic fantasy lottery amount! I do that too. So silly, you can literally imagine any number but I always give myself constraints.
