Going to York soon, staying a bit further out from the centre but walking distance- does anyone have any suggestions for nice, not too expensive places to eat?

Partisan on Micklegate is fab for breakfast brunch or lunch. Or just coffee and cake.

Dough eyed, Jubbergate in the Shambles is amazing pizza

theres lots of unusual street food kiosks at Spark on Piccadilly

and York Cocoa house for hot chocolate and cakes. That’s on Castlegate

Lucias every time! Gorgeous food not pricey and lovely if it's warm and you can get a table outside

Thankyou both, these look great!

Ate O' Clock is fab.
York Roast Company for 'fast food'.
Wildwood
Vitoria for tapas
Out of town - St Vincent's Arms, Sutton Upon Derwent
Betty's

D’vine Social Bar and Pizzeria, (family friendly and also offers more choice than pizza) lovely food, great ambience and 2-4-1 on pizzas on Tuesdays.
Rustique on Castlegate is consistently good, a French restaurant that has a set menu and is good value.
Nola is good (more for adults though)
Boungiornio is out of town but worth a trek out to Acomb Wood for the food if you’re staying that end of town (number 1 on Tripadvisor)
Enjoy 😊

Sneaky placemark as I'm visiting York soon.

Startagain51 · 25/04/2022 21:25

Wagamamas always a good bet. Echo Lucia's, it is the best place, in all honesty. The Botanist is good, and the House of Trembling Madness. Also Kennedy's is surprisingly good.

Roadtripconcept · 25/04/2022 21:26

Another vote for Lucia's .

ineedsun · 25/04/2022 21:29

It’s a bit rough and ready but I like Yak and Yeti

MissDollyMix · 25/04/2022 21:29

Cafe no 8 on Gillygate. It’s only small but the food is always exceptional.
The rooftop bar at the Malmaison is fun. The tapas is nice, cocktails are really good and the view is fantastic.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/04/2022 21:29

LICC in back swinegate do amazing ice cream. And I love a pork sandwich from York Hogroast.

MissDollyMix · 25/04/2022 21:30

Also love Ambiente for tapas. The one on fossgate is my favourite.

MissDollyMix · 25/04/2022 21:30

And second partisan for breakfast/cakes. They do the best hot chocolate.

Sharpkat · 25/04/2022 21:35

Lucia's and Ate o'clock.

If you like Italian, Caesars at the Minster on Goodramgate or Mamma Mia on Gillygate.

GiltEdges · 25/04/2022 21:40

Roots is nice, slightly pricey.

ethelredonagoodday · 25/04/2022 21:54

Little Arras is an amazing bakery/patisserie.

There are so many lovely restaurants. Whereabouts are you stopping?

AIPS · 25/04/2022 21:58

If you like Thai kho san road is lush

AIPS · 25/04/2022 21:59

Cut and craft is nice too for steaks. It feels like a night out restaurant 🤣

House of Trembling Madness. Haven't been for a few years now, but the food was good and it's a real experience.
