Does this have any symbolism? Or is it just cute?

Brought this today, I feel like the image should have some symbolism but coming up a blank on google. Happy for it to just be cute.

I'm glad you like it OP as you will never be free of it. You could try, but no burying, burning or casting into the sea will get rid of it.

Squiff70 · 22/04/2022 22:24

If you purchased it then you bought it, not 'brought' it. But that doesn't detract from its hideousness!

titchy · 22/04/2022 22:26

It's a present for your MIL isn't it? Grin

Kanaloa · 22/04/2022 22:29

I think there’s something ugly-cute about it. Like baby yoda or those deformed pikachu knock offs. With the right outfit it could look cool. I follow plenty of fashion blogs on Instagram (despite being quite unfashionable myself) and see people wearing more out there stuff a lot.

MarthanotMarfa · 22/04/2022 22:30

Wasn’t Birdie Friend a Brooch…that didn’t go too well! Let’s hope this brooch is not possessed or some portal to another world. Just saying…

The hands being hidden underneath the grapes makes it look as if they’re up to something “forbidden” (the logic being, otherwise why cover them up)?

I mean, yes the reverse shows that their hands are on their knees but if you wear this out and about, nobody is going to be seeing the reverse so ...

Also — I appreciate this is subjective but to me they don’t really look like babies or children, they look like creepy little men.

Children portrayed as little adults was quite common in a period of art, since people thought childishness portrayed lack of control/morality, so if their kids were being painted they wanted them to look as ‘adult’ as possible. That’s why a lot of art showing the baby Jesus looks like a creepy little man. Then it switched and people started to see cherub little child looks as representing innocence/purity, and children were painted more realistically.

So if it was made in the image of a certain period of art, or perhaps to represent a myth or legend then it could be intentional that they look like that.

A daft purchase.
You'll get stares if you wear it as a brooch .
However, if it brings you joy, as some say...

Crinkle77 · 22/04/2022 22:41

Dunno but when I first looked at it I thought of fruit of the loins so possibly a fertility thing?

tearinghairout · 22/04/2022 22:57

It's funny that one has hair and one doesn't.
It's a bit of a long shot but there's a story in the Bible about two spies being sent to suss out some land, and they bring back a huge bunch of grapes that it takes both of them to carry, which signifies abundance/fertility. The reference is Numbers 13 v. 23.

the brooch spoke to me

I would book a hearing test.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

SouperNoodle · 22/04/2022 23:11

Ant and Dec

BirdWatch · 22/04/2022 23:12

I find it ugly as sin, and creepy.

Ant and Dec

It's not that ugly.

Don't hold back guys, tell OP what you really think 😂

I like it but I also think lobsters and snails are cute, according to many others they're not. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe the brooch represents marmite.

DressingGownofDoom · 23/04/2022 00:40

Man and woman fall in love
She has baby
Ends up with a bunch of grapes coming out of her bum

WellThisIsShit · 23/04/2022 01:14

It’s unusual I give you that! But people love the quirky stuff so wear with pride 😛

fossilsmorefossils · 23/04/2022 04:10

Seeing how big it is it might work better being remade into a pendant and worn on a long chain. I can see it work if you style it well.

Lastsecondfail · 23/04/2022 04:57

Caszekey · 22/04/2022 19:09

Couple of inches sq I guess?

They look even more cursed in this angle.

I'm fearful of what they have hidden being the grapes .....

Shock
SmugOldBag · 23/04/2022 06:25

Hideous. I strongly suspect it's haunted.

Notarealmum · 23/04/2022 07:08

I like it better from the back I think, the grapes are a bit strange. Do you think the one with hair could actually be a girl?

Cornettoninja · 23/04/2022 07:50

I’d go with it being a nod to Bacchus personally.

Popsicle33 · 23/04/2022 07:55

It's revolting! I'm howling! I'm convinced that the creepy darts fuckers are alive. You'll be on here in a fortnight asking about how to get an exorcism.
