ShockShockShock There I was, driving home, minding my own business.... When a fucking gargantuan large spider crawled down the windscreen right in the centre of my view! Then I realised it was on the INSIDE. 😳I had to turn into side road super quick, stick my hazards on, grab a tissue & fling the thing out the window.... Arghhhhhh.

A spider.

I'm not gonna lie, OP, but I was expecting something more dramatic. Something more sizzling.

For example, you'd been propositioned by Les Dennis or Lee from Blue in Sainsbury's frozen food aisle.

I GOT PROPOSITIONED BY LEE FROM BLUE!!!!

In a real classy joint called China White, circa 2002. What a time to be alive.

Trudij123 · 22/04/2022 21:06

I had one come down from my visor when I was going down the M5 a few years back - I don’t do spiders bigger than a 10p unless they are tarantulas ( basically hamsters with extra legs) and it took a LOT for me to carefully open the window and watch it get sucked out…

in a horsebox one time a dragonfly flew in - unfortunately for him he hit the windscreen with such a force he died, but he was MASSIVE ( and beautiful )

VenusClapTrap · 22/04/2022 21:23

Happened to me on the M25. Luckily it was on the approach to the Dartford Crossing tolls, so managed to make it to the barrier and then exploded out of the car. The toll guy came out of the booth to ask what on earth I was doing, and then refused to let me back in the car until he’d found it and evicted it. It was so kind of him. But he knew he was averting an accident in doing so and was a kindly, understanding soul. I have never forgotten him, all these years later.

Tusue · 22/04/2022 21:29

Well done ,I would have screeched to a mad halt and run for the hills shouting like a madwoman .

VenusClapTrap · 22/04/2022 21:32

My worst spider experience was when walking upstairs to bed one night. Something landed on my face, assumed it was hair and flicked it away. Only it wasn’t hair; it hit the wall next to me, bounced off and clattered onto the wooden stair behind me. I looked down to see the biggest spider I’d ever seen outside of the tropics. It clattered because it was so fucking huge. And it had landed on my face. My FACE.

i still feel nauseous at the memory. It was a Cardinal spider - look them up; biggest spider in the U.K. On my chuffing face.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 22/04/2022 21:44

If spiders are so frightened of us, why are they always flipping dropping down onto us or crawling on us. Why don’t they stay the f away? We are massive compared to them and they have 8 eyes so why come near us at all? Terrifying creatures

YukoandHiro · 22/04/2022 21:46

I nearly drove off the great ocean road because I though there was a massive Aussie spider on my leg. My friend quickly took over the driving of the rental that day.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 22/04/2022 21:49

On my honeymoon we were on a ship and the captain had an enormous praying mantis on his hand. I stayed about 10 feet away from the huge thing but decided to take a photo with my camera. The flash went off and then thing screeched with rage and flew straight at me, I can still see it flying directly towards my face. I was at the top of a staircase and shot down it, I’ve never moved so fast. My DH was doubled up with laughter.

It could have been worse. Could have been a wasp. All angry and buzzy.

That happened to me on a very hot day, all my windows were open because my air con had packed up☹️….. I was stationary at the front of a long queue of vehicles at red traffic lights. The wasp🐝 was buzzing around inside, all I could do was put my hazards on switch the engine off and exit my car very quickly to await the🐝 leaving. The lights changed to green, lots of cars horns blaring behind me then back to red before the 🐝 left.🙄 If it had only been a 🕷I would have calmly stayed inside until I could have stopped in a convenient place to deal with it, I like 🕷🙂

Wahey! Lee Ryan in Chinawhites. That's so Heat magazine of you.

Were you receptive to his charms?

I had a mouse in the car once and it took three days to get it out. First time I saw it it was running around the passenger footwell, then it popped up a couple more times before hopping out the door of its own accord. Lesson: if you're taking garden waste to the tip, don't leave it out overnight.

This is exactly what my DH did once and it resulted in spiders and a really bad smell which lingered and reminded me of the spiders. As an arachnophobe I was livid with him.

This happened to me! Big bastard crawled out from behind the sun visor and sat right over my head. I was in the M4 so freaking out would have been fatal, had to get to the next lay-by to deal with it. No idea how it got there, but it was huge.

Bloody heck that’s awful. I shudder to think what I might have done in that situation. Swallowed my fear hopefully, but I am arachnophobic about big ones. Well done. Phew.

What a pathetic, boring thread headlined by a FUCK YOU profanity. The level of so much of Mumsnet it must be said and MNHQ do nothing. No need for the vile language at all. So crude and selfish to use this kind of abusive language to strangers.

Its actually light hearted and helps readers escape from all the bad things in the world right now,you didn’t have to read

Strad101 · 23/04/2022 00:03

This happened to me 20 years ago!! Bloody massive spider hid behind the sun visors and took every opportunity to jump out at me - needless to say I sold the car after many efforts to find him failed, and my nerves wouldn’t stand for any more motorway scares! 🤣

Inwiththenew · 23/04/2022 09:09

I once went to the forest and collected a load of pinecones and put them in a bag in the boot of the car. We were driving home on the motorway and when it got dark all the spiders in the pine cones started crawling out all over the car. Couldn’t stop till the next garage. Was a nightmare.

Mirw · 23/04/2022 10:20

How pathetic! It was only a spider. If it had been in Australia, then maybe panic but not in the UK. I don't understand people bring scared of insects. Why?

Do you understand how phobias work?

Wow. I assume you've heard of phobias, right? Are you this empathetic in real life? 🙄

There’s not a single insect I’m scared of. I’m scared of spiders.

I guess you don't know how phobias work then? Have you had an empathy bypass?

You also don't seem to realise that spiders are not insects.

RustyShackleford3 · 22/05/2022 07:18

I'm in Australia. I'm scared of spiders. I was just as scared of them when I lived in England. Do I get a prize because the spiders that I see now could be venomous?

People aren't scared of spiders because of the risk of being bitten. They are scared of them because they suffer from arachnophobia. I can't believe that an adult needs this to be explained to them.
