ShockShockShock There I was, driving home, minding my own business.... When a fucking gargantuan large spider crawled down the windscreen right in the centre of my view! Then I realised it was on the INSIDE. 😳I had to turn into side road super quick, stick my hazards on, grab a tissue & fling the thing out the window.... Arghhhhhh.

This happened to me! I completely feel your pain OP! I had just learnt how to drive and gave my gran a lift to Asda as I set off a massive spider fell down. I stopped in the middle of her road and me and gran flew out of the car. A builder had seen what happened and was bent over laughing at us.

Starcatty · 21/04/2022 20:13

@GCAcademic one of my proudest moments was when I managed to safely pull over when one of the angry buzzy bastards flew in my window. To this day I’m still not sure how I stayed so calm 😂

sophienelisse · 21/04/2022 20:14

Op this happened to me. Driving at half five in the morning. I had a big loose fleece on and I felt something on my wrist and a fucking huge house spider ran out of my sleeve into the car.

I had to pull over in the middle of fucking nowhere. No one to help.

I ended up catching it in a giant buttons packet and getting it out the car. Was literally crying and screaming until it was out. On my own.

I had another four hours of driving. I literally drove to Scotland with my arms and legs tensed incase another appeared as someone told me they always come in pairs.

Was fucking horrific. The fear!

Got my car valeted as soon as I arrived and an understanding lad in my work checked the whole car with a fine tooth comb for me.

It's a horrible thing to happen to you.

ResentfulLemon · 21/04/2022 20:14

This happened to us recently. Fortunately as the driver I wasn't particularly bothered as I've yet to see a spider choose to leap on me...however DD1 was really freaking out and tried to get out of the car at 60mph!

Well done for not crashing the car PurpleToeNail pretty much all the other drivers I know are phobic so wouldn't have been as calm as you.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 21/04/2022 20:14

I had this the bloody spider took a casual stroll across my steering wheel. I reactively thumped it rather hard, which sounded the horn! A few dodgy looks from the people in the traffic as in sat waving my hands about as I just realised I had actually touched the bloody thing and it could be crawling on my hand/arm...not a great start to my journey to work!

sophienelisse · 21/04/2022 20:15

@SophieSoSo

That’s happened to me before when I pulled my visor down and one fell out 😭Luckily I was on my street so I just left the engine running and jumped out until my dad rescued me.

I leave my visors down now.

I will never use my visors again
Babdoc · 21/04/2022 20:17

At least spiders are small and harmless.
I had a patient years ago when I was on trauma call, who drove round a bend on a country lane in the dark - and a cow’s backside came through her windscreen. The cow copiously shat all over the poor woman in fright, then bounced out again, leaving her covered in broken glass and shit!

Starcatty · 21/04/2022 20:17

I’ve also had the joy of reversing and the parking camera showed nothing but a huge spider - when I’d finally parked and got out to check it was just a small/ average sized slider that had chosen to chill out on the camera lens!

Genuinely disappointed. Was expecting something a lot more exceptional than 'there was a spider inside my car.'

Especially as a spider being in your proximity isn't even remotely exceptional. Unless you were driving in the Antarctic. Or in a moon buggy. Which was on the actual moon. If you had been driving an actual moon buggy on the actual moon, THEN this would have been a great story. But you weren't. Disappointing.

Now, see! That's a ' Fuck me!! You will never believe what just happened to me!' story. Take note OP.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/04/2022 20:20

Couldn't risk it tootling up my leg ...

They don't tootle up your leg, OP ... they creep round behind you, crawl down your collar then scuttle down your back Wink

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 21/04/2022 20:21

This would be even worse

Hellocatshome · 21/04/2022 20:22

This reminds me of the time I was driving my son and 2 of his football friends in my tiny 2 door car, they are all over 6 foot and struggled to fit in. One of them screamed from the backseat there was a spider. I looked up and crawling along the ceiling towards me was the biggest spider I have ever seen!. I pulled over hazard lights on we all piled out of the car as quickly as we possibly could (them unfolding themselves from the backseat). We must have looked panic stricken because a van driver stopped behind us to ask us if we were alright. When I told him about the spider the guy looked at the three 6ft 15 year olds with me and said "and could none of you have just squashed it with your shoe?" Before looking in the car and the spider was gone. We had to drive the rest of the way to football terrified thT it might make a reappearance. 1 of them has refused to get in my car ever since in case it still lives in there.

Travis1 · 21/04/2022 20:29

Poor spidey 😟

tillytoodles1 · 21/04/2022 20:30

I had a Tampax loose in my bag and it had come out of the wrapper and rolled under the passenger seat.As I was driving along, I saw it shoot out and I thought it was a mouse. Thank goodness no-one was on the pavement as I let go of the steering wheel in horror and my car mounted the pavement, almost knocking down a garden wall.

<wonders how long it will be before someone says this thread needs a trigger warning>. [Grin]

I remember the days when spiders had to be referred to as 'loofahs' on MN🙄

Sandra2010 · 21/04/2022 20:32

This is my nightmare. I'm always terrified that this will happen to me and I'll do some real damage to someone, because I'm phobic. Proper panic attack phobic, and I hate that I am. I'll be jumpy all night now having read this.

Cherrysherbet · 21/04/2022 20:36

If It was a wasp I would have freaked out.
Spiders don’t bother me. I would have carried on driving.

My DBs friends were once, being young lads and stupid, driving too fast on the motorway in the dark and hit a cow that had escaped from her field. They were exceptionally lucky to only have cuts and bruises. Car was a write off. Cow, well, not pleasant, but given the separation of head from body, certainly died instantly.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 21/04/2022 20:39

This reminds me of Julie from Neighbours! She had a spider in the car incident and it has always stayed with me!

JudgeJ · 21/04/2022 20:39

I was once a passenger during a hot Summer, window down, elbow on the door and the most enormous wasp flew into my loose, strappy top and gave me a huge bite in the nipple region. That was oh so painful for days.

starlingdarling · 21/04/2022 20:42

I've lived in Australia and soon learned to check for spiders (especially hidden in sun visors). Nothing is as scary as a huntsman appearing in your car

HazelBite · 21/04/2022 20:42

See explain to me someone why are people in this country frightened of spiders???
I can understand a fear of snakes, or even wasps/ bees, (although unless you are allergic the stings are not that dreadfull) but spiders? small fragile little beings that make webs that cartch house flies/bluebottles etc, that are far more dangerous because of the germs they carry!
