I've just given up Netflix

And it feels so good.

I read a story about how loads of people are giving it up, and suddenly thought what a good idea. I tried to remember the last time I watched something on it and couldn't.

So pleased to have saved myself £14/month. Most satisfying thing I've done today.

We have it and use it fairly regularly, it wouldn’t be the first to go if I had to choose. Made me laugh with the password sharing thing, SIL and MIL use our account sometimes and we use my Mum’s Disney+ as does my brother.

gamerchick · 21/04/2022 15:24

It looks like they're going to charge you more if you share your passwords. So all is not lost.

How will they be able to tell the difference between you sharing your password, and you using your login when away on holiday?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/04/2022 15:27

gave up BritBox- won’t give up my hayu but it is something you get used to no having

DH and I share an account... obviously. We're one household. But he works in Hampshire and we live in Yorkshire. So regular log ins from two locations, sometimes at the same time. Would they count that as sharing a password?

Dunno, Google is your friend probably here. I don't share mine out so haven't looked that closely to it.

Just take away coffee to go and then you’ll for sure be able to buy a house! Well done OP.

We are going to give up sky. It’s now £100 a month - we will need that for the energy bills soon! I think we will keep Netflix and Disney is free for a couple more months and then that will go too. Don’t like the sound of ads on Netflix though.

StrangeCondition · 21/04/2022 16:05

I signed up last month and cancelled today, load of shite. I've got Prime, Britbox and Disney+ which will do me

@Pemba

Sorry, but it was a bit daft of you to be paying for the top package when you never use it OP!

To be fair to Netflix, they have some great original content on there (eg, Bridgerton, The Crown, Stranger Things etc) and such an enormous variety I can always find something worth watching. The software is excellent too, better than all the other streaming services. It is Sky that is poor value for many people I think there are plenty who pay £80 or even over £100 pounds a month for it, especially if they like sport.

Since DD was a student we've been sharing a log in on Netflix, and we now split the cost of the top package. But now that she and her partner have decent salaries coming in, if Netflix do crackdown on password sharing I think we would each subscribe separately (in our case probably to a more basic package).

Not really daft as we used to watch it all the time, as did the DC. And we can afford it - that's not the issue for us.

I just don't use it any more and realised there was no point paying for it mindlessly.

We don't have a TV license, we'll be keeping Netflix! If they do adverts though I'm getting rid. That would annoy me enormously.

giggbig · 21/04/2022 21:06

I unsubscribed last week due to boredom, looks like I'm one of many!

ParentalAdvisoryExplicitContent · 21/04/2022 21:08

No tv licence here so we have the cheapest Netflix subscription and Disney+ just so there's something to watch.

PurplePinecone · 21/04/2022 21:32

I couldn't give up netflix. Disney + has also gone on our cannot live without list. Cancelled prime tho. I thought I would miss the delivery but I can still get free delivery as long as I spend over a certain amount and happy for it to take a few days to be delivered.

I begrudge having to pay for the TV licence tho. We don't watch any live TV. Have a few smart TVs tho. So not sure if that counts or not. Once our contract ends with virgin we will put it down to broadband only as even tho we have channels we don't watch any of them!
