When do you give Easter eggs? Sunday or Monday?

Every year I have this same dilemma, but wondered what you all thought. Is there a right answer?

Always Sunday unless you are seeing family on a different day. No hunt here as DS is an only, be a bit silly hiding one egg.

Easter comes from oestre, and is a symbol of New life, Hence the egg.

The hot cross bun is for the stone that covered Jesus' tomb, and commemorates the Crucifixion on Good Friday (used to bé God's Friday).

When I was little they were never ever sold before the Friday, a treat after the days of fasting in Lent

This op , on another note when did this hiding eggs start ? Don’t remember doing that when I was a child I was simply given Easter eggs.
We were too, we chose one at the supermarket ourselves which was exciting. Then we were given a small one from a relative or two. DS has done a hunt with playgroup when he was younger, but only the small hunting eggs, he has always had a boxed one from me.

He rose again on the THIRD day, not 3 days later. Big difference!

@DelphiniumBlue

Thanks AppleKatie. But I think I'm more confused now, didn't Jesus rise 3 days after he died? Saturday, Sunday then rose on Monday? Why would there be celebrating on the Sunday, if the ascension is the party time? Anyway, those of us who are up in my house are happily tucking into our chocolate, so it's all good!
“On the third day he rise again, in accordance with the scriptures”. Day 1 -Good Friday, crucified; Day 2 - Holy Saturday, in the tomb; Day 3- the resurrection, Easter Sunday, “Easter Day” if you like.

Whether to give Easter eggs on Easter Sunday or Monday. Easter Confused

In the first lockdown 2020 when we were all feeling quite fragile, I gave the DC their eggs on Good Friday. Did the same last year. DH and Ds1 were away this year so we couldn’t have the same timing, but I found that it worked really well. They were really chuffed and enjoyed them over the whole weekend, and didn’t want any other treats on the Friday and Saturday, so I didn’t do my usual and make a cake/tart/crumble for the weekend.

The hiding bit is totally and thoroughly just for fun.

And if you have an only, you hide their big egg, some mini eggs, and all the brown ups chocolate too. Just to extend the fun!

*grown up's!

I'm laughing at this because I've just written all the clues for the DC's Easter Egg hunt which will be... tomorrow!

No religious/ethical/particular reason, just we've hosted the in-laws so today has been eggs and treatspalooza already. We'll do a little scavenger hunt with them tomorrow to break things up a bit and ease the end-of-holiday downer.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 17/04/2022 17:40

DS got his yesterday as I woke up thinking it was Sunday. To be fair we did also have our roast lamb yesterday too as that’s when we had visitors.

ukborn · 17/04/2022 19:15

Easter Monday is not universal and not part of the religious holiday - I've only had it here. Easter Day is Sunday.
I did an Easter egg hunt until my kids were well in to their teens!

DS did a hunt with playgroup. I think it's much more fun with other children anyway. It was only DS with an Easter egg as the 85%+ chocolate eggs are extortionate and I don't like very sweet chocolate.
