When do you give Easter eggs? Sunday or Monday?

Every year I have this same dilemma, but wondered what you all thought. Is there a right answer?

Today! Although we've found it difficult to wait until today, as DC wanted to crack them open all week! We are seeing some other relatives on Monday and will wait to give Easter eggs then, if that's what you mean...?

Good Friday here 😃 although dh and I ate 2 before then. But we are adults and can do what we want

Easter Sunday is the "main celebration day"...i.e. all shops closed, etc. Similar to Christmas Day in that respect. Easter Monday, shops will all back open, etc, a normal bank holiday. However, I think many people spread Easter celebrations (if they do celebrate) throughout the long weekend. So, it's up to you OP but I would say that today is the day to indulge!

Good Friday = the day Jesus was crucified
Holy Saturday = Jesus in his tomb
Easter Sunday = day of the resurrection

It is the resurrection that is celebrated at Easter. On Easter Sunday!

So there's Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, nothing in either of those names specifies Easter eggs. I am not from a Christian background but even if I was, nothing in the bible says anything about chocolate as far as I know. How are you guys all so certain about it?

There's also Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, just to confuse you 😀

Good Friday is still in Lent, as is Holy Saturday, so if you're religious that's another reason to wait until Sunday

Why must you hide them? Today is Easter Sunday, the day to give them!

To do our annual easter egg hunt? Surely you don't just hand over the eggs?

Because of tradition- which despite many posters being atheists is likely in the most part to be culturally Christian.

Op you are right about it not being in the bible or at all clear if you didn’t grow up with it. It’s on Easter Sunday because that is the part of Easter where everything turns celebratory (the risen Christ). Holy Week is all pretty grim and leading to Babaric death on Good Friday (a day of sacrifice and mourning) and then Sunday Christ is risen- world is saved- have a party- 2000+ years later eat an obscene amount of chocolate eggs 😅

The Monday is so that we all get a day of work to celebrate as having it all on a Sunday a day of no work anyway is mean. There’s no religious significance to Easter Monday as far as I know.

But I think I'm more confused now, didn't Jesus rise 3 days after he died? Saturday, Sunday then rose on Monday? Why would there be celebrating on the Sunday, if the ascension is the party time?
Anyway, those of us who are up in my house are happily tucking into our chocolate, so it's all good!

Resurrection day is when you eat the eggs, eggs are given because they represent the stone rolling from the tomb. That's why we roll eggs too.

Easter Sunday is day 3.

This op , on another note when did this hiding eggs start ? Don’t remember doing that when I was a child I was simply given Easter eggs.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday is the three days.

You can’t expect the church to take the logical approach you just did there with your maths!

Easter Monday is just a Bank Holiday in place of Easter Sunday as you can’t have bank holidays at the weekend. The 3 days thing has always confused me but it really is Good Friday to Easter Sunday.

Sunday is "The Third Day" - Friday is Day 1, Saturday=Day 2, Sunday=Day 3.

Because he was crucified on the Friday and then was resurrected on the Sunday.

You’ve got a while to go before the ascension. It’s resurrection that’s party time (as you put it) for Christian’s, not the ascension.

No not 3 days later, the third day so He died on Good Friday that is the first day, then the 2nd day is Saturday and Easter Sunday is the third day.

Tbf, easter eggs are cheaper on Easter Monday as a lot of shops sell them off half price. So waiting does make sense in that context.

Although that doesn't seem to be relevant to the OP.

Great if you are Orthodox as their Easter is next week. I wonder if they buy double?
