My Ukrainian refugee visitors on way back to Ukraine

And I'm sitting in my lovely, peaceful garden sobbing.

They'd been here a week on a family visa but the hospital where she works have now told her that my new friend that her three week holiday allowance is up and if she doesn't go back she'll lose her job. As a cardiac doctor her speciality is in demand, as you can imagine. They'd been out of Lviv for two weeks by the time they got to me as it took that long for the visa.

I'm telling myself it's only Lviv, they can come back anytime but watching a woman and her two small boys climbing into the taxi for the airport for a flight to a country under invasion has just about undone me.

It's so fucking wrong.

Lviv is quite safe op, and she may have felt horribly homesick in a strange country and decided she wanted to go back to her life. It is likely to happen alot now, and Ukraine need their best doctors and professionals, they have started to rebuild now, and even if the war rages in the East as it is likely to for potentially years, the rest of the country need to support each other and move on.

I understand how worried you must feel, but be happy SHE felt safe enough to return. Be happy for the patients she will save, and for her children to return to their own lives and friends soon. You did a wonderful thing, that will never be forgotten. Keep in touch and one day you might see her and the boys again.

You can also consider offering their place to another family perhaps from the East?

No, Lviv is not quite safe, but they do need their doctors.
I just tried to link a BBC article about the first civilian deaths there but I don’t think New Mumsnet is entirely working yet.
