Muff NI
Muff isn't in Northern Ireland. It's in Donegal.
AprilShortbread · 17/04/2022 11:03

Oaxaca.

There's a city in the US with our surname. Quite fancy there.

I'm from near Pratts Bottom. Always thought it fortunate they built the hospital in Locks Bottom instead, as that would have been some interesting birth certificates...

caringdenise009 · 17/04/2022 12:12

Cold Christmas in Hertfordshire.

I did want to visit Banoffee when I thought it was a town in Scotland where the pie originated, but someone put me right on that one.

We stopped for lunch in Truth or Consequences in New Mexico. Hadn’t planned to but who could drive through without stopping?

x2boys · 17/04/2022 12:19

Tring because I once met someone from Tring in menorca when I was about nine and she was a pen pal for a while I don't live anywhere near Tring sadly .

CowboyFromHell · 17/04/2022 13:14

Fingringhoe - a village in Essex

TwoShades1 · 17/04/2022 13:16

Wyoming

chisanunian · 17/04/2022 13:20

Okavango delta
Ngorongoro crater
Fingals cave
Giants causeway
Rotorua
The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Realistically speaking, the last one is the most likely to be achievable in the short term...

I want to go to Timbuktu but fear it's too off-limits even for me! Ulaanbaatar Batar is fab - UB everyone drops! Have a pic of me at the Ouagadougou sign.

Brahumbug · 17/04/2022 17:01

I always wanted to visit Loose Chippings. You often see signs saying 'Loose Chippings half a mile', but half a mile later there is no sign of it.😁

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2022 17:21

Has no one mentioned Wetwang yet?

SillySallySassySausage · 17/04/2022 17:23

Cheddar Gorge.

If I don't find a cave/valley made entirely of cheese that I can swan dive into, face first, I'll be severely pissed off.

TheCanyon · 17/04/2022 17:27

Fucking.

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 17/04/2022 17:32

Little sodbury

Aposterhasnoname · 17/04/2022 17:34

Went to wetwang based entirely on its name. There’s a place in Australia which has our surname. I’d like to go there.

Bundlebuns · 17/04/2022 17:38

Cheddar Gorge. It sounds ace

saraclara · 17/04/2022 17:55

I wanted to go to Samarkand from the moment I heard its name when I was a small child. I finally got there eight years ago, in my late fifties, and returned there four years ago.

Zanzibar was another place I've been to, drawn by the name as much as what it offered.

Oh, and Kashgar. Another name that I got to visit just before everything turned to shit over there.

So yep. My traveling life has been pretty comprehensively influenced by names.

maddy68 · 17/04/2022 18:03

Puddington ;)

NannyGythaOgg · 17/04/2022 18:41

@MaryAndHerNet

First time i went to Sc*nthorpe, I had to giggle. There's also a Penistone I've been too. I've been through Spittal In The Street too.
Was a pain living in South Yorkshire and working in sales when the head office algorithm stopped us typing Penistone and Scunthorpe because of the consecutive letters. (Weirdly, you can go from Penistone to Birdwell, take a small detour through Jump and end up in Wombwell)

I've been to Cold Christmas, a friend used to live there. It's just a lane with a nice name, sadly nothing exciting there!

JurasicPerks · 17/04/2022 19:00

Yanbu is in KSA

Tulipomania · 17/04/2022 19:02

Zanzibar

elQuintoConyo · 19/04/2022 10:44

Oh, and I've been to Peñiscola (pron: pen-yis-colla) near Valencia. Partly for the lolz, but it's a beautiful little place. They filmed parts of El Cid there.
