Might be posting less in future. Can't abide the new layout, and MNs arbitrary pulling threads down. Take care all.

Agree! I’ve actually barely followed the thread today and usually am all over it all day. It hurts my brain this new layout 😭

MagicFox · 20/04/2022 11:26

I think they're working on fixing all the bugs so hold firm!

Colours on the app are now sorted/back to normal Smile

But the bookmarking still hasn't been sorted Hmm

NATO contributions.
The guideline is that it should be at least 2% of GDP.
Recently only US, UK and Poland have met this target.
However, not surprisingly, everyone is now committing to meeting this target.
Even Germany (🙄)

KonTikki · 20/04/2022 11:47

Ooh, I've gone all green, like the OP !

thereisonlyoneofme · 20/04/2022 11:52

Donald Trump gave the fact that other countries didnt pull their NATO financial weight as a reason he wanted the US to come out, seems he had a point !

thereisonlyoneofme · 20/04/2022 11:54

I hope Mumsnet fix the fact that you dont see who the last poster on a thread was now.

Perhaps some members could think about making up their arrears so that the burden in real terms does not fall on the US, UK and Poland.

New layout: The edit facility is useful though.

More tricky than trying to learn the new control panels of a Mig-29, for example?
lol, well put

Well, you can make childish jokes about a very serious situation but the Americans are saying .....
"Without getting into what other nations are providing, they (Ukrainian forces) have received additional platforms and parts to be able to increase their fleet size," he said.
Kirby did not specify the type of aircraft delivered to the Ukrainian military, which had been pleading for warplanes for weeks, but suggested that they were Russian-made.
"Other nations who have experience with those kinds of aircraft have been able to help them get more aircraft up and running," Kirby said.

So it would appear that despite the negativity, ways have been found around issues...
"NATO soldiers are to train their Ukrainian counterparts to use the newly delivered howitzers"

Brilliant news.

jeffgoldblum · 20/04/2022 12:01

Apologies, long time lurker , thought I'd try post to see if it would work as bookmarks not!
No it doesn't! Confused

The UK gets to 2% by adding in Pensions and military costs when on peace keeping ops for the foreign office & despite this current situation, we still plan on further cuts on top of a falling GDP due to CV.

Plus with a large slice going on Nuclear, our conventional forces suffer.

Yes targus!😂

I've always understand however that pilot's can't just jump into massively dangerous expensive planes willy Billy.

So I've Been asked to re sign in several times now And thread I've commented on are not high lighted.

There doesn't seem to be much issues (at least that I've come across yet) in the desktop version but I still don't like it. Just looks wrong.

More sabre rattling from Russia, threatening Finland and Sweden again just as the NATO discussion starts in Parliament yle.fi/news/3-12410667

I saw a video, I think on Reuters, of the civilians in the steel plant, lots of children were there.

MagicFox · 20/04/2022 13:02

It's thinking of the children that really makes me fold, I wish they could be protected. They must be so scared. I honestly don't think I'll ever be able to feel the same way about humanity and about the world again

OP posts:
Natsku · 20/04/2022 13:07

Same, its unbearable thinking about the children caught up in this. The video showed them trying to play in this bunker under the steel works, just trying to carry on like children do, and then have to shut off my brain from thinking about what might happen next to them.

Robert Jenrick has just raised the case of Aidan Aslin at Prime Minister's Questions. He talks bout how Aslin was interviewed in handcuffs by a British man. Robert Jenrick said the interviewer Graham Phillips (a propagandist for Russia) risks prosecution for war crimes.

This is awful.

Ukraine has named a street in Boris Johnson’s honour.

Ukrainians hailed the British PM a hero for leading the charge with weapons and sanctions.

The council in Fontanka, on the outskirts of Odesa, issued an order to rename Mayakovsky Street to "Boris Johnson Street".

prettybird · 20/04/2022 13:12

@MagicFox - Lawrence Freedman's article was interesting. However, even though the US took its time to give up in Vietnam, it's even more difficult for Russia because it is physically next door to Ukraine. Hmm

I assume Putin secretly wants Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Because he's going out of his way to ensure they take the decision to join.
