It's always easier to complain about somebody's tone than it is to explain how they are incorrect.

See also pretty much any minister challenged in Parliament by a woman.

Changechangychange · 15/04/2022 13:56

If he had been visiting his mum in a home when no one else could, or held a birthday party for Wilf when no one else could then I could understand the outrage over this but he didn't. He was in his place of work with work colleagues dealing with a unique and very stressful situation and a few colleagues popped in to wish him a 'happy birthday' and gift him a cake. If it was me in that situation I'd say 'thanks very much, pass me a paper plate and make mine a large slice'

And the ABBA karaoke party in his flat with his wife’s friends? The big drunken work party with a DJ where they broke Wilf’s swing? How were those ok?

jgw1 · 15/04/2022 14:00

@JaniieJones

'I'm quite capable of being interested in more than one thing at a time. Maybe you can only cope with one but I bet most people on here can be interested in deterring people trafficking and illegal lockdown gatherings.'

There's no need for you to be rude gran, I am capable of course of being interested in more than one thing at a time.

My point was regarding voting, anyone upset about fpns (not those on here of course) may think illegal trafficking is more important and therefore vote accordingly. We don't know do we. Soon find out!

@JaniieJones Would you agree with me that the Tories have had 12 years to try and sort out the illegal trafficing and appear to have failed to do so?
jgw1 · 15/04/2022 14:03

When I get one I'll let you know.

If you want one, can I suggest writing to Vlad in the Kremlin and asking if he will pay for one for you as well?

Anyone really interested in people trafficking wouldn't want foreign aid, out of Europol and no dialogue with the EU on this.

Rwanda is a complete gimmick and i suspect BJ knows full well he wont win any legal challenge, so can blame the "Leftie Judges" hell, most the concentration camps (thats what they are) haven't even been built.

The Tories are doing untold damage to our democracy.

Alexandra2001 · 15/04/2022 14:04

Should say "Foreign Aid cut..."

But Boris knows what a woman is, so he will be able to distinguish them from the men that need to be sent to Rwanda.
mmmmmmghturep · 15/04/2022 14:17

@Roussette I remember Hancock smirking at the press conferences. He was totally getting off on the power. I remember him standing there and shifting the blame to the public and saying "dont blow it now" And all the while his aide was blowing him!!

Roussette · 15/04/2022 14:34

@mmmmmmghturep

Grin Love it!

It was his serious pious face that did it for me, what a plank he is
And fake crying on telly with the first jab

Benjispruce4 · 15/04/2022 14:44

God they really are the sleaze party aren’t they?

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 15/04/2022 14:44

point was in response to the hyperbolic response to “my child couldn’t have a birthday party”. No, you couldn’t have loads of friends round but then BJ didn’t either. Every photo I saw had appropriate social distancing and people in work suits. My spouse doesn’t live at school.

If colleagues who didn’t work directly together attended then agreed it’s an illegal gathering and the fine is appropriate as the rules dictated. I still don’t agree that it’s a sackable offence.

30 people attended the illegal birthday gathering in the cabinet office. Here's a picture of that room with approx 30 people in it. No room to swing a cat let alone socially distance.

The 30 included people who didn't work there. People who worked at Number 10, people who worked nexted door, and people who didn't work there at all.

And Boris' spouse doesn't live at Number 10 either.

Boris has been fined - Part 2
DuncinToffee · 15/04/2022 15:04

No room to swing a cat let alone socially distance.

Maybe if they had swung a cat, people would have called it a 'proper party' Wink

Good idea. Mind you after nearly 7 weeks of covid I think I need to work up the energy to have a good clean/tidy up before I'd let them have a look round. Do you think he might pay for me to have a cleaning service in to do a spring clean?
Benjispruce4 · 15/04/2022 16:18

Oh dear my MP’s reply is as expected. Grovelling along supporting a liar and a cheat. He apologised so apparently that’s that! What a joke. Bring on the GE!

duvetdrama · 15/04/2022 16:39

What will happen now do we think? Is that it? All forgotten about and he just gets to carry on as before?

*By election in Wakefield

Will be interesting

Conservative gain. Brexit party votes will matter

It's relatively local to me so I need to do my bit to get the vote out

When will the Sue Gray report come out and will it be released in full?

cakeorwine · 15/04/2022 17:08

@NETSRIK

When will the Sue Gray report come out and will it be released in full?
No doubt we will know because there won't just be a dead cat on the table when it's released, there will be a dead whale with the PM saying "Look at that, look at that"

*If Boris had invited friends outside of daily contact I’d get the angst. Not sure how involved the interior decorator was day to day but that’s the only person who wasn’t at work ( or maybe was)8

You're conveniently forgetting his wife.

People on here seem to have a curiously insular view of work, assuming it must have been OK to have a gathering because you would only be meeting up with people you've been working with all day. But that's not how big offices work -there will be large sections of the staff you rarely see, and during lockdown if they had to have staff in it was strictly on terms that people from different departments couldn't mix.

And guess what, No. 10 is a big office. Johnson knew perfectly well that these social gatherings involving people from different department weren't allowed, not least because he kept telling us so.

Fulmine · 15/04/2022 17:43

If colleagues who didn’t work directly together attended then agreed it’s an illegal gathering and the fine is appropriate as the rules dictated. I still don’t agree that it’s a sackable offence

If it was Joe Bloggs doing this then no, it probably isn't. But then Joe didn't formulate the laws, he didn't regularly turn up on TV solemnly telling us we must comply, he's not the first PM in history who's been fined for a criminal offence, and he didn't stand up in Parliament several times and lie about it.

Notonthestairs · 15/04/2022 17:43

Well they have to stretch their credulity otherwise they'd have to acknowledge that it was illegal.

Fulmine · 15/04/2022 17:51

My point was regarding voting, anyone upset about fpns (not those on here of course) may think illegal trafficking is more important and therefore vote accordingly

Let's fix that for your, @JaniieJones:

With any luck, people who are angry about this will be sufficiently deluded to think our Rwanda con will be an instant cure for illegal trafficking and will vote accordingly.

May I be so bold as to suggest a cure (perhaps only partial) for the trafficking.
