Doppelgängers-have you seen one?

I just have, on my way back from walking the dog with a friend, a woman walked past and I was convinced it was my sister. In fact I stopped and was staring after her, wondering whether to call out her name. Then logic took over, she’d be 300 miles away from home, she’s not left London since the start of the pandemic, she would not ever surprise me like that. But blimey, I was so worried I came home and started madly tidying up in case she walked in!

As a teenager, I was unexpectedly kissed at a bus stop in London by a lovely boy, who thought I was his girlfriend, it turned out I looked almost identical to her, and we became good friends

I saw the image of my friend at the Eurostar terminal in Paris, except 20 years younger.

My friend later told me that when she lived in southern France she was continually mistaken for a Madame ‘X’ and one lady in particular got very angry when she denied being her.

My friend is actually English of Eastern European descent.

I went into somewhere for an appointment once and the receptionist looked so much like my sister that I completely forgot what I was going to say, must have looked like a right idiot. I knew it wasn’t her because she lives 500 miles away and would have no reason to be there but it threw me for a second.

Funnily enough her husband has several doppelgängers, she says people are always saying they think they’ve seen him/seen someone who looks just like him. I met one guy who looked almost exactly like him, just a different hair colour. Apparently he just has one of those faces.

At my church. B, who sings in choir and has a dog. and M who runs Sunday School and dislikes dogs. I can tell them apart when they are together, but cannot be sure which one I’m talking to if I see them apart. Several people have commented to them how similar they are. They aren’t related.

Years ago I was with my mother and grandfather on holiday in Italy

We had gone into a shop and I was wandering up and down the aisles. I turned to my grandfather who was near me and asked it we could buy something

My gf looked at me quite blankly and I repeated what I said. At that point I think my real gf who was down a different aisle had heard me talking and came over to see who I was talking to.
The “grandfather” I was talking to and my grandfather came face to face with each other and then both bolted in opposite directions.
The thing that confused me was they were dressed identically. Blue shirt, Navy trousers, even the same style and colour shoes.

FWIW when looking at family ancestry we do have a connection to Italy and Southern European.

Maybe this guy was a very distant relative.

I seen a picture from a kids clothing shop on Instagram of a young girl and had to stop, wonder why they were using my daughters picture and asking myself when she ever had them clothes. It took me a few minutes to realise it wasn't her. It's was so scary how exactly they looked alike.

I used to live in a village where there was a boarding school

The landlord of the local pub said he couldn’t tell the difference between me and a girl who would come in occasionally who was at the school

One Sunday I went to the bar to order some drinks for our group an older guy came up to me and started shouting at me to get back to school and he would deal with me later.
The pub went silent and I had no idea who this guy was. The landlord had to explain to this guy who was one of the teachers that I wasn’t who he thought I was as he too had made the mistake when he had seen the girl around the village in school uniform and realised we both looked exactly the same.

Never did meet her.

Ds when he was little bore a striking resemblance to a very famous actress couple’s Dd
To the point that I saw the actress and her Dd in a glossy magazine and wondered when he had done work with this actress. (He did child modelling)
It took me a bit to realise it wasn’t him.

Even now the similarity is still there

A man who looked just like my late Grandad walking into a pub. Was 20 years after he passed so definitely not him, but he even had the same 'jeans belted under his armpits and too big white shirt' clothing combo Grin

I was watching something on YouTube which mentioned Lord Haw Haw and showed a photo of him. He was the absolute spitting image of one of my neighbours.

I was once in a bar and a bunch of my friends started going 'Oh My God! Loy! Look!' and pointing at someone. 'Er, what?' I went. 'It's your exact double!'. I took a closer look and saw someone who maybe looked a tiny bit like me, but I have to say a fair bit uglier and a bit stupid-looking.

MadeInChorley · 02/01/2023 20:30

I have one. She works in one of our French offices. I met her at a conference and people constantly got us mixed up, waved and called me over and in French using her name and vice versa. She was really lovely and it was funny, but un-nerving. Like meeting the twin you’ve never had.

TBH, after a few drinks we did do a bit of “Did your Dad ever visit Aix-en-Provence around 1979….?” Or “Your mum didn’t have a Lancastrian friend called Bill did she…? Just to make sure we weren’t related.

Aposterhasnoname · 02/01/2023 20:31

I have one, never seen them myself but various people, including my best friend have seen “me” out with a man who isn’t DH. My friend was actually quite upset about it, and apparently I saw her and blanked her, except of course it wasn’t me.

No, it wasn't a mirror.
