Doppelgängers-have you seen one?

I just have, on my way back from walking the dog with a friend, a woman walked past and I was convinced it was my sister. In fact I stopped and was staring after her, wondering whether to call out her name. Then logic took over, she’d be 300 miles away from home, she’s not left London since the start of the pandemic, she would not ever surprise me like that. But blimey, I was so worried I came home and started madly tidying up in case she walked in!

A man on a train said my dad was the double of his dad and my dad said the man was the double of my brother. Very strange as this was in Europe and we are all in the Uk.

theleafandnotthetree · 12/04/2022 14:33

There is a girl who is very sadly one of a cluster of girls who all went missing in Ireland 20+ years ago who was so like me at the time she went missing as to find looking at her picture extremely difficult - all my family agree. In fact I was always amazed that nobody went to the Guards and said 'I saw X alive and well in X place'. But this was all pre camera phones and social media.

WhenDovesFly · 12/04/2022 14:39

I've been told a few times that I have a doppelganger, maybe more than one as sightings have been far apart. Never seen my twin myself though.

queenMab99 · 12/04/2022 14:44

I had one when I was about 14, my mother used to see her walking down our road, and think it was me, I think she was more 'out going' than me as lorry drivers used to toot their horns and shout out their windows driving past me. To cap it all my exhusband had dated her as a teenagerConfused

WhatICallMyUsername · 12/04/2022 15:37

My brother and I both have them!

Once he was in a nightclub and one of his friends told him I was upstairs wearing a red dress. He went to find me to ask if I wanted to share a taxi home (pre mobile says). I was at home in bed poorly.

Another was in the shop at the end of my street. Someone I know sent her son to jump out at me. Ended up apologising to the poor woman! Just even odder it was so close to my house

My brothers actually rents the house next door to me. I haven't managed to get a covert photo to show him yet. He lives 30 miles away from me so every time I see my neighbour I panic it's my brother and something has happened (he wouldn't turn up unannounced)

I also stopped to pick him up once when he was walking down the street when he lived in the same city as me. Wasn't him Blush

All the time but DP tells me I have face blindness 🤣

I was convinced I saw my sister in Rome a few years ago. I was with my boyfriend at the time and he was also convinced it was her. It obviously wasn't, but she had the same mannerisms. It was spooky.

I met a friend of mines at a wedding. It was really unnerving!

Mine was a bit creepy. I was about 17 at the time so many years ago. 1970's.
I was a bit depressed at the time and went for a walk in a park.
This was one of those rose garden type places with raised beds, paths and those brick shelters with seating inside them.
I was wearing white trainers, blue jeans and a red hooded top.
As I approached one of the shelters I noticed a woman sitting in there completely motionless with her back against the wall and her knees drawn up. She was wearing exactly the same clothes as me! Her arms were folded and I couldn't see her face as her hood was up. She gave off a depressed vibe just like I was feeling.
My heart was in my mouth but I was fascinated and carried on towards the shelter.
When I got there I did see her face but she wasn't me or any other 17 year old, she was a VERY old lady. Dressed like me!
Her complete stillness and that depressing vibe gave me the feeling that I was being mocked somehow.

Damnloginpopup · 12/04/2022 22:18

Mine and I stared at each other 39 years ago then walked away without a word. I wonder what they look like now.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/04/2022 22:18

I saw my doppelganger in a lift in Senate House library in 1997. I was waiting for a lift going up but being a gobshite I had repeatedly pressed all the buttons, so the lift going down stopped unnecessarily.

The doors opened and there was one guy (pressing the ground button in irritation) and at first I thought there was a mirror at the back but there wasn't - it was my exact double. We blinked at each other a bit, then the door closed, and that was it. Middle of the afternoon, hadn't been drinking or thinking about doppelgangers.

likemindedarseholes · 12/04/2022 22:24

Yes but I think it's because anyone with the classic round South American face/ nose stands out in this part of the UK so people think they've seen me but they've usually just met another Chilean. Even had a man chase me around a polish shop trying to tell me I looked like 'just' like his Chilean friend (I didn't).

Dietcokeaddiction · 12/04/2022 22:24

Two.
My dh worked for a couple of years with a group of people and I hadn't met most of them. This was before mobile phones. When the photos of his goodbye party were printed i asked why my sister was at the party when I wasn't?! It wasn't my sister but I still do a double take when I see that photo.
I live in a small town. Someone I knew from uni lives in the same town and we see each other once every few months in the supermarket. There is a woman who looks identical to her (just slightly shorter and slimmer) who I see more frequently in the same supermarket. It's weird.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/04/2022 22:26

Those "doppelganger" men in the guardian article aren't identical at all! They have dressed the same and have the same facial hair, but they are different heights with completely different faces.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/04/2022 22:34

When DD was in primary school there were two girls in the year above her who were difficult to tell apart. Their faces were alike but they both had the exact same, really unusual shade of hair. One of the mums used to very strongly deny that they were at all alike until one day she tried to take the wrong child home (she was approaching the child from behind so could only see the hair colour). Grin

WhatICallMyUsername · 13/04/2022 08:53

@TheYearOfSmallThings I thought that! Anyone can dress the same and get a similar haircut!

KitKattaktik · 13/04/2022 09:39

I have one and she's in the same Facebook group as me. She shared a photo of herself and I really thought that she had got my photo from somewhere and that it was a joke on me! It wasn't. She really is my double.

DaisyWaldron · 13/04/2022 09:45

A few times a year I would see a woman who was uncannily similar to one of my colleagues. Once I mentioned it to her and she replied that it would have been her identical twin.

EssexLioness · 13/04/2022 09:59

Yes, years ago after escaping my abusive ex, I saw someone who looked just like him, despite the fact that he was hundreds of miles away. Even had similar clothes. Thankfully it wasn’t him but I saw this man several times. He looked exactly the same from the back and side, but when he turned round to face you full on there were some subtle differences so definitely not him. But until he turned round it was uncanny

Unescorted · 13/04/2022 10:03

I have one.... They live(d) in London. My brother was caught out a couple of times and gave them a big bear hug only to realise that it wasn't me.

PaperTyger · 13/04/2022 10:21

I worked for two days with a temp the spitting image of my cousin. Same fine hair , figure ,feet, gentle demeanour. It was astonishing! It wasn't Just the look's but the whole aura!

romdowa · 13/04/2022 10:26

Yes a friend of mine died years ago in an accident. He didn't grow up in my town . So years later I walk straight into this guy who is the image of my friend and I stood there speechless. The guy knew exactly what was wrong, turns out it was his brother 🙈🙈 he gave several people in my town a fright during his visit.

AnnaSW1 · 13/04/2022 10:31

I went to middle school with mine. It was annoying

LadyEloise1 · 13/04/2022 10:40

@theleafandnotthetree
I am now wondering which of the missing girls you resemble.
I do so wish the families and friends of those missing girls/women would get the answers they so desperately want.

I have a few doppelgängers apparently. One lives in the UK and I live in Ireland. Another lives a few kilometres down the road but I've never seen her.

Elsiebear90 · 13/04/2022 10:42

No, but I must have one because I told all the time people have seen me somewhere and I didn’t acknowledge them or asked if I have a twin. I want to meet this person that apparently looks just like me!
