That feeling when you're drifting off for a daytime nap...

Nothing beats it, right?

I do normally feel a bit crappy when I wake up, but it's worth it Grin

When I used to work 12.5 hour night shifts we were due 2 x 30 mins and 2 x 15 minute breaks. We used to add it all together and take a 90 minute nap wherever we could find a space. The agony was if the ward became too busy you could get summoned back mid nap.

I had an afternoon nap phase when the kids were little but I now get ds off to school and go back to bed, drink tea and doze until 12. I sure this is not normal but I don’t actually care.

Zerrin13 · 09/04/2022 23:14

An afternoon nap is one of lifes great pleasures imo. I absolutely love it. Drifting off to sleep on the sofa is something I try to do most days.

LlamasSitOnPyjamas · 09/04/2022 23:19

I'm enjoying the references to Nana naps (Bluey fans anyone?). Also love naps! Years of broken sleep mean I can asleep anywhere anytime of day.

cakeorwine · 09/04/2022 23:21

I usually lie on the bed listening to something on BBC Sounds and before I know it, it's finished and I don't remember listening to it.

It's amazing how quickly I can doze when I need to

lonelynotalone · 09/04/2022 23:35

Wow I have found my people. I thought I was just being lazy and always felt guilty when I had a snooze in the daytime! Can't beat a nap when the DC are at school, though if the postman or someone knocks the door, it scares the living daylights out of me!

Figmentofimagination · 09/04/2022 23:41

Saturday afternoons are my nap time. DH is at work, DS is watching a movie or playing with his toys and I drift off. Sat on the sofa, downstairs duvet over me, beanbag pillow supporting my head, tv or music and DS chatting to himself as background noise. Bliss.
I miss having my naps when we have to do something on Saturday afternoons like visit family or run errands. I look forward to that nap. I missed it today ☹️

Thorilicious · 10/04/2022 19:59

Hope people enjoyed any napping completed today.

Sometimes I purposefully get up early at the weekends so I can treat myself to an afternoon nap. I bloody love it.

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 10/04/2022 20:09

I thought it was just me that loved a nap. And I was being lazy!

WimpyKidYouNot · 10/04/2022 20:37

I love an afternoon nap and would even say it’s one of my special skills Grin. Can’t sleep on an aeroplane or anything like that but in my own bed for an hour or so in the afternoon and I can be out like a light and come round fresh as a daisy. Love it!

Poppins2016 · 10/04/2022 20:39

Ooh, yes, I agree. That lovely, warm, drifting feeling... it's great! My DH has never understood it though 🙄

MindPalace · 10/04/2022 20:42

Hate the waking up feeling, so I never nap in the daytime.

But I do love the drifting off to sleep bit of a general anaesthetic. Not that waking up in Recovery is a barrel of laughs, but I still adore the going to sleep part.

SisterRuth · 10/04/2022 20:47

Oh yes! Give us an N, give us an A, give zzz zzz zzz

SunflowerSmith · 10/04/2022 20:56

It's an amazing feeling, you get to a point when you're still conscious enough to know you'll be asleep in a matter of seconds.
Only downside is that it's an awful feeling when the dog suddenly barks during that time and snatches you back to reality, it's like an electric shock.

Gherkingreen · 10/04/2022 20:57

Weekend naps are THE best. Drifted off this aft for 30 mins snuggled up with my dog after a long walk and a workout.
DCs are mid/late teens so my time's more my own; have waited a long time for this sort of small win Grin

GreyCarpet · 10/04/2022 21:21

I nap most days and have done since I was in my 20s. Ui now.plan it into my routine amd get quite sad if I don't get it for some reason.

If I don't manage a nap, I plan an early night instead... bloody love an early night!

dudsville · 10/04/2022 21:31

I have a mental list of the best naps of my life. I can't share them here because I have few anecdotes so I roll this topic out on social occasions. Yes I am dull, but people tend to really participate in the topic!

Forevergold2838 · 10/04/2022 21:31

Oh i adore a nap! I know it sounds incredibly sad but it's the highlight of my week! I have a day off in the week when DH is in work, DC at school, I whizz around in the morning getting all the jobs done and then I make a hot water bottle, a cup of tea and a sandwich and I get back into bed, listen to some ASMR and set alarm for the school run. Often wake up feeling a bit rough but yes, OP the nodding off feeling is well worth it.

newbiename · 10/04/2022 21:32

@LadyMacduff

I love an afternoon nap, but if I go all in and get into bed for it, it usually sets off sleep paralysis, which can make me feel groggy.
Same ☹️
JamieFraserskiltspeaksout · 10/04/2022 21:39

Can anyone explain why sometimes, after a nap, we feel dreadful? Really sluggish, sick or headachey? I love a nap but it's 50/50 on how I feel afterwards.

ApocalypseNowt · 10/04/2022 21:43

Before having kids me & my best friend would sometimes have naps together (we used to rent a flat with 2 huge comfy sofas).

My DH would come home and find us snoozing. I would tell him "oooh, we must've dozed off..." to which he would ask why then, we had pillows and duvets... Grin

DeoForty · 10/04/2022 21:45

I'm another who wakes up incredibly nauseas and anxious. BUT, I've perfected a way to fall asleep but be completely aware of my surroundings (thanks to pregnancy with a toddler) and I find that almost euphoria inducing.

GeneLovesJezebel · 10/04/2022 21:46

I think it feels very luxurious to have an afternoon nap.

Moppincraxy · 10/04/2022 21:56

I'm so glad to read this thread. I've had a stressful time recently and also have health anxiety. I've found myself almost unable to keep my eyes open after lunch and have been having 2-3hr afternoon naps while I've been off work this week. The health anxiety had me convinced I must have cancer or some other horrible thing that is making me feel so tired.

Partyatnumber10 · 10/04/2022 22:21

Love this thread!!
I love my afternoon naps, they're the ultimate treat.
I have one most Sundays whilst ds is at his dad's house then a few here and there in school holidays.
If I sleep too long it can take ages to wake up properly though.
