That feeling when you're drifting off for a daytime nap...

Nothing beats it, right?

I do normally feel a bit crappy when I wake up, but it's worth it Grin

I had a little nap this avo after a humungous dog walk and chores and ferrying DD around. I also tend to feel a bit bleary after but usually another walk or a coffee will sort that out.

I live a nap and have had one every day this week thanks to covid making me droopy. I've slept well at night too, sleeping is the best. I haven't always had the best relationship with sleep but at the moment it's good

I clocked up 2 hours today and it was bliss.

mathanxiety · 09/04/2022 21:01

I get a second wind about 10 pm if I nap properly during the day. What I do is lie down for 15 minutes and try to clear my mind, with my eyes closed.

Saucery · 09/04/2022 21:04

I take all the 6am starts in return for one or two Nan Naps a week. I start off reading, but drift off to the most amazing Backrooms, trippy dreams.

upinaballoon · 09/04/2022 21:07

I lie down on the floor with the top of my body on the bean bag, and zonk off nicely, and wake up ready to roll. It's an inherited ability. Older DNA match of mine swore by a little nap to set you up for the rest of the day. Afternoon cinema for pensioners is a guarantee of missing some of the film as I zonk as soon as I'm in that warm atmosphere.

I use to live in Spain.

I returned to the UK 20 years ago.

I still love a siesta Grin

And I agree with the poster who said they are much better than a lie in!

TenoringBehind · 09/04/2022 21:12

Don’t get this at all. Naps make me feel grumpy and discombobulated. Horrible feeling. Only ever have them when really ill (flu etc).

Nidan2Sandan · 09/04/2022 21:13

I love a nap but the circumstances have to be just right. I have to be excessively tired, I have to be in bed, but fully dressed, and I have to have the tv on in the background.

Choice of tv show is vital, needs to be something relatively quiet, that I've watched a million times before so I dont worry about missing anything, but interesting enough for my brain to try to listen to with my eyes closed. I usually choose Friends or Judge Judy for this.

I cannot day time sleep in peace, however at night I wear ear plugs as I need silence.

TawnyPippit · 09/04/2022 21:16

Ooh, we call it a disco nap here which feels more … lively? than a “nana nap” 😊

I had a positive Covid test yesterday so although I feel fine I thought it important to have a proactive disco nap this afternoon, just in case. I half heard - in a very dreamy way - the Grand National and DD doing supper prep, both in their own way extremely soothing

Thorilicious · 09/04/2022 21:16

@0TenoringBehind but that feeling as you drift off for me is worth it!

My nap is literally my favourite time of my day. My little one has his nap after lunch and I curl up on the sofa with my cat and a fleecy blanket and drift off. I have the blanket over my face so it's really warm and I can hear people going about their day while I drift off.

Even better, we live opposite fields and when it's rainy I can see the weather coming in and I'm all cosy inside. Bliss.

Oneonetheracehorse · 09/04/2022 21:20

I also think of all the years I worked and was desperate for a nap in the day and now I have a few years I can actually do it - I don't take a second of it for granted, feel like I owe it to myself to make the most of these days!

whymewhyme · 09/04/2022 21:22

I'm so jealous, even when I'm shattered and i try to nap, just can't!!!

What are your secrets!

Weewillywinkle · 09/04/2022 21:31

I would nap every day if I could! Years of broken nighttime sleep and 4am starts with my kids meant napping with them was the only way I survived! I had a rare day off work with the kids in nursery and napped from 10am-3pm! Went to bed as normal that night too.

For those who can't nap just try a rest instead. No pressure to sleep but just switch off. Listen to an audio book or music. Eyes closed in bed, no trousers, curtains closed and set a timer for when you need to be up-to-date this is sometimes the thing that stops me napping - fear of missing school pick up etc

NancyPickford · 09/04/2022 21:35

I love a nap too, but my favourites are when I'm abroad on holiday, hot afternoon sun, but inside a cool villa bedroom, with the french windows ajar and the muslin curtains swaying slightly, dappled sunlight, lovely bed, zzzzzzzz

HelloDulling · 09/04/2022 21:37

Hugely enjoy a disco nap. Podcast on low, curtains closed and I’m gone within a few minutes. That feeling in your body as it almost changes gear and you know sleep is almost upon you is lovely.

EmpressSuiko · 09/04/2022 21:46

I’m very jealous, I can’t nap even if I wanted to, I just can’t switch off!

Diversion · 09/04/2022 21:47

I cannot nap! Hugely jealous of you all and my DH who is able to power nap in an evening without it affecting his bedtime sleep.

picolata · 09/04/2022 22:02

I flipping love a nap but used to feel a bit guilty for having one or admitting that I had one.
Now I call it Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is lying with your eyes closed and floating between awake and asleep.
In reality I just climb into bed and have a nap...but saying to the family that I'm going upstairs to do Yoga Nidra makes me feel like I'm winning at life, rather than being a lazy cow.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 09/04/2022 22:03

I sleep more deeply but for a shorter time if I go to bed but I generally just doze off on the sofa. I can be out for 20 minutes or 2 hours. DH works weird hours so I don't get the chance to go to bed early the way I would like to but having a nana nap makes up for it.

QuitMoaning · 09/04/2022 22:05

If napping was an Olympic sport, then I am pretty much guaranteed a podium place.

However, answer me this, when in a hot place, E.g on a Meditteranean holiday, why is it so easy to fall asleep for an afternoon nap but borderline impossible to sleep at night because of the heat?

LadyMacduff · 09/04/2022 22:06

I love an afternoon nap, but if I go all in and get into bed for it, it usually sets off sleep paralysis, which can make me feel groggy.

Squiff70 · 09/04/2022 22:08

On the rare occasion I get chance to doze off in the afternoon, my 2 year old often chucks a wooden block at my head or finds the noisiest, most annoying toys known to mankind.

I might add I only try to doze on the days her dad is off work and supposedly keeping an eye on her whilst I 'rest' Confused
