What about other countries? What are the French, Italians, Germans, South Africans, Chinese etc obsessed with? I'm guessing for Indians it's Caste?

I'm just curious!

Obelisk · 09/04/2022 14:43

Germans are obsessed with their digestion.

lemongreentea · 09/04/2022 14:56

French are obsessed with becoming more and more far-right.

And thinking their food is the best in the world. Its not.

(For folks from The Far East; family & education (from Confucius' thoughts))

Oh wow I’m married to. Gastroenterologist, we should move to Germany, he might make our fortune! Unfortunately neither of us can speak German though - damn!!

I don't know why they think it is.

I've travelled to the four corners of the globe, and Italian, American, German, British, Indian, Thai and Chinese influenced food is all more commonly adopted than French food.

Plus they are almost kinky in their desire to do weird shit to animals in order to produce it.

EV117 · 09/04/2022 15:17

Germans are obsessed with their digestion.

Never considered this 😂 I have German family. I don’t hear a lot of German any more but ‘verdauung’ is a word I’m very familiar with and indeed seems to be mentioned often!

Obelisk · 09/04/2022 15:20

@EV117 I have German family too, including a relative who had a loo with a special ledge in it, designed so that you could have a good look at your poo before you flushed it and so gain a better understanding of your health Shock

ChiefPearlClutcher · 09/04/2022 15:20

Japanese are obsessed with brands
And ‘collabs’

PierresPotato · 09/04/2022 15:21

Bavarians and Austrians ime like to tell you where you are going wrong.

Calandor · 09/04/2022 15:22

I'd guess China - wealth and Japan - honour (as in keeping face).

PierresPotato · 09/04/2022 15:22

So I guess they are thinking about the "correct" way to do stuff.

lemongreentea · 09/04/2022 15:27

Me either and totally agree about other nations food.

But OMG what do you mean by your last sentence? With snails and stuff??

lemongreentea · 09/04/2022 15:28

In a self-help kind of way like how to get shiny hair or a judgemental kind of way?

RaspberryChouxBuns · 09/04/2022 15:33

The French are obsessed with Islam. So much so every French politician seems to have read the Qu'ran and have the same qualifications and depth of understanding as an Imam at the local mosque.

Fed up with it.

Favourodds · 09/04/2022 15:35

Danes are very pre-occupied with humility and not being seen to be pleased to be doing well.

I remember seeing these loos about 25 years ago when backpacking around germany/austria. Really unusual design feature 😂

Canadians are obsessed with not being seen as 'just another American state' - and who can blame them?

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2022 15:41

The Dutch are obsessed with other people. A nosier people I have never met.

Italians are obsessed with food and football.

Canadians are obsessed with being seen to be nice (and not American).

Longdistance · 09/04/2022 15:41

Hungary has those god awful toilets with a ledge. I have no desire to look at my turd, let alone examine it closely. It came out and that’s all I care about. At times, when you flush, the fucker sticks and you have to give it a little tap with toilet paper 🤮

The Chinese are obsessed with food. First question when you see a friend or family member - have you eaten? When? What did you have? Was it nice? Did they make it crunchy or quite smooth like that place near your house. You know the place that does the really nice pork. I actually thought it was over cooked but your father liked it, but you know he always likes it with that sauce. And the rice was not great, they didn't rinse it properly. But you know I had a dish they other day with mushrooms and they were exactly right, slippery with celery for contrast and freshness. Etc etc etc

I have friends who can talk about the latest seasonal delicacy for an hour, whether it's a particular kind of crab ("oh you always get the best in Shanghai, we will go on the first weekend of the season") or some kind of mystical vegetable reared in darkness and harvested by the light of the full moon ("so fresh, you can really taste the energy").

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 09/04/2022 15:42

I've lived in France. Their food is shite. It's all a combination of meat, veg, and chips with some sort of sauce. Never got the appeal. I remember when a vegetarian came to stay and it was a nightmare trying to find a restaurant that would accommodate him. Poor bloke survived on omelette for a week.

PierresPotato · 09/04/2022 15:43

Lemongreentea, it's a not unfriendly straightforwardness that results in multiple randoms saying "Good morning, your baby should be wearing socks!"
