Does anyone have family gatherings on Easter Sunday?

Similar to the way we gather on Christmas Day, does anyone do the same on Easter Sunday? Big family gathering, family meal etc?

I’ve never done this before but we’re out of restrictions, I was thinking of inviting the family round this Easter Sunday for a big roast dinner with all the trimmings, maybe roast chicken or something like that.

Is this a thing?

Yes, it is. Roast lamb is traditional, I believe. I love Easter 🐣

Chasingsquirrels · 08/04/2022 15:23

My inlaws do/did. Late-DH and I used to go to MILs and laterly take MIL to SILs.

Allsorts1 · 08/04/2022 15:24

Yes but do roast lamb! Cute Easter themed decorations. Easter eggs for everyone. Will be lovely.

mnnewbie111 · 08/04/2022 15:24

Used to with my parents etc. but not now we're all older and so our own thing

Itsbackagain · 08/04/2022 15:25

We don't but then we're not religious.

Monkeybutt1 · 08/04/2022 15:25

We are this year, mainly because we have just finished renovations on the house and haven't had anyone round all year. I am going to do a buffet I think but keep it Easter themed where I can. I will probably do a roast on the Monday for the 3 of us

SniffMyQuiffyHair · 08/04/2022 15:27

Yes, in our house it's a big thing, massive meal, board games the lot

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 08/04/2022 15:28

Used to growing up - Easter was always a big deal as a family celebration.

Sixlegsfoward88 · 08/04/2022 15:30

Yes, we are Roman Catholic so do the whole shebang! It's the end of our Lenten fast (so much as that is followed nowadays but we don't drink alcohol during Lent) so we always have a big family lunch after mass. Usually roast lamb and all the trimmings followed by lemon curd Pavlova and chocolate eggs for the DC.

Flatandhappy · 08/04/2022 15:30

Yes, Easter is really big for me. Growing up Catholic Easter Sunday was a major celebration, I am no longer practising and my kids never were but I always do Easter lunch with lamb and a special cake and an Easter egg hunt. Kids now all adults and I have a grandchild but everyone likes to gather here for lunch. Also, DIL’s family don’t celebrate Easter so unlike Christmas I am not trying to make sure that it all stays fair and nobody misses out!

Sixlegsfoward88 · 08/04/2022 15:32

Yes it's a lovely family day with spring flowers and without the stress of Christmas! Grin

Holly60 · 08/04/2022 15:37

Yes absolutely. we will be having DS, DDIL, DD and DSIL and all the DGC over to ours. Easter egg hunt and garden games followed by a lovely roast. Can’t wait Smile

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 08/04/2022 15:43

It’s tricky for us as DM is not very mobile & would find it very difficult to use our stairs if she needed the loo. We could go to them but it’s a lot of work & their oven is very tricky to use for some reason. Also DD13 is very reluctant to eat in front of anyone. I might do a roast for me & DH. I love lamb but he’s not so keen, although he would eat it if it’s fairly lean. I do miss family get togethers. My maternal Grandma was the best for that. Her Yorkshire “ High Teas” were legendary!

IWanderedLonely · 08/04/2022 15:44

We all used to gather at my parents, but haven't done it for 20+ years. My children are adults now and I have grandchildren, who I see 3 or 4 times a week, but we do our own thing on Easter Day.

Fedupsotired · 08/04/2022 16:01

@Itsbackagain

We don't but then we're not religious.
We do and we're not religious. Just nice to have excuse for family time (like Christmas is nice for the same reason)
MrsJBaptiste · 08/04/2022 16:07

It is to one of my friends. We never made a thing of Easter so I find it odd when people say it's like Christmas Day #2

MrsDThomas · 08/04/2022 16:58

We have but kids are growing and doing their own thing. So no roast dinner this year,

BeaLola · 08/04/2022 18:27

Yes we do - we usually have roast Turkey and sone years we also have a slice of Christmas pudding too .

Easterisoffeggstooexpensive · 08/04/2022 18:30

We are having fish in parsley sauce this Sunday and a posh afternoon tea next Sunday on Easter Sunday.

Butteredtoast55 · 08/04/2022 18:35

Yes! Lovely lunch with roast lamb and roast chicken; lemon cheesecake and a chocolate egg pinata cake for afters. We used to gather at my parents where my Dad would do an Easter egg hunt with little poem clues personalised for all the children. Now it's at our house and there's usually about 12 of us.

Butteredtoast55 · 08/04/2022 18:37

BeaLola that reminded me that my Mum would make two Christmas puddings in the Autumn. We had the first on Christmas Day and the second at Easter!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/04/2022 18:37

Yes, nice reason to get all the family together for a roast and wine. Not happening this year though as we’re off on holiday.

I also (and Mumsnet hate this) decorate the living/dining room

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/04/2022 18:38

Always! Cocktails, roast lamb, pavlova, Easter confectionery.

TheChosenTwo · 08/04/2022 18:41

Often, yes.
Usually have my brother and his family round early on for an Easter egg hunt in the house and garden (weather permitting) and then my mum and the rest of the family join us for a late lunch.
We aren’t here this year and haven’t done it for a few years because of restrictions - by the time we do it again the dc will possibly have grown out of wanting an egg hunt!
Although based on their reactions on me deciding it might be nearing the time to stop Christmas stockings perhaps not. The eldest one is nearly 18… Grin
