Does anyone have family gatherings on Easter Sunday?

Similar to the way we gather on Christmas Day, does anyone do the same on Easter Sunday? Big family gathering, family meal etc?

I’ve never done this before but we’re out of restrictions, I was thinking of inviting the family round this Easter Sunday for a big roast dinner with all the trimmings, maybe roast chicken or something like that.

Is this a thing?

We used to when my dear Naina was alive

BeaLola · 08/04/2022 19:34

Butteredtoast55 I think it started when my Nan who made christmas puddings every year would give my Dad two at Christmas - one we had on Christmas Day & the other we kept and had at Easter.

Since DH & I host Christmas we (because we dont make them ) always either buy two at Christmas and keep one pudding for Easter or DH buys one just after Christmas ready to have at Easter ... he also buys a Turkey then just to ensure we have one for Easter ....

We have DF, DB& DSIL joing us this year and we start with champagne cocktails, have the lovely sit down meal & drinks and natter and then early evening they all leave.

Really looking forward to it - hopefully it will be brighter weather then.

Yes of course it is. I’ve got 12 for lunch on Easter Sunday.

It is definitely a thing although I don’t usually see my family over the Easter weekend myself.

WhereHasSpringSprungTo · 08/04/2022 19:39

We did last yr ( our bubble /ils) would this year but on holiday instead.

ladygindiva · 08/04/2022 19:39

Yes we are having both sets of in-laws for Easter Sunday, doing a big roast lamb dinner and exchanging chocolate themed gifts 💕

pigletsbiggestfan · 08/04/2022 19:40

Yes!

Used to always be a roast akin to Christmas Day, but in recent years (thanks Covid) we've done BBQs and I think that's here to stay now as long as the weather allows!

Mostlywearingturquoise · 08/04/2022 19:46

We never have. Easter was never a big deal at all when I was a child, although my family did buy easter eggs for the youngsters but that was it. Sometimes we’ll maybe have a bbq if the weather is good and everyone is off work but that doesn’t happen often. It’s nice to read through some of the other posts to see how others celebrate. We aren’t at all religious but I might make this a new family tradition, especially given the last rubbish couple of years.

timeforteaforyouandme · 08/04/2022 19:46

Like Xmas day without the stress/pressure, and with better weather and chocs instead of presents! My favourite day!

Ragwort · 08/04/2022 20:00

Yes we always have a get together, smaller this year as DS away working but my DM will join us and we are having a Turkey lunch (from the freezer - bought very cheaply on Christmas Eve Grin). Always go to Church as well (but do most Sundays anyway).

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/04/2022 20:03

@Itsbackagain

We don't but then we're not religious.
You don’t have to be religious to have the family round for a roast lamb dinner.
BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 08/04/2022 20:08

Yes, (atheist family). Egg hunt for the kids in the morning then roast lamb for supper.

Babdoc · 08/04/2022 20:11

Yes, I have my DDs and their partners to stay most Easters. Hot cross buns and scrambled eggs for breakfast, lovely service at the village church, with favourite Easter hymns, the Sunday school kids hand out mini chocolate eggs to the congregation, the church is decorated with daffodils etc.
Home to put a whole leg of lamb in the oven, marinaded in red wine and rosemary from my garden, then out for a walk round the loch or up the hills while it slow cooks. Back to turn up the oven for the roast potatoes and crisp up the lamb skin, put some veg on, then we all sit down for a feast, followed by our Easter eggs as pudding! Bliss.

ElbowsandArses · 08/04/2022 20:12

Yes! Big family get together. Love Easter: so much better than Xmas.

Skyeheather · 08/04/2022 20:14

Yes, Sunday roast dinner, not lamb as DP won't eat it, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt in the garden for DC.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 08/04/2022 20:19

Yes - it is like Christmas without the stress! I LOVE Easter!!

Floralnomad · 08/04/2022 20:22

We do , my sister cooks .

gogohm · 08/04/2022 20:22

Yes, heading to mums on the Saturday

Cheekymaw · 08/04/2022 20:24

Yes OP. Catholic family so it's our big festival. Mass then roast lamb/veggie roast with all the trimmings , nice puddings and Easter cake . We watch a bit of telly then go for a walk usually . Then swap chocolate eggs and play some biard games . Less stressful than Christmas.

Scarybutnecassary · 08/04/2022 20:26

Yes over to BIL for buffet tea ,Easter egg hunt for the 20something cousins and 2 year old granddaughter.
Easter Monday I am hosting, roast lamb ,veggie roast and lots of chocolate!

minniep · 08/04/2022 20:33

Yes I way prefer Easter dinner to Christmas. Far less stress . We are having my parents and my in laws so it will be a big roast dinner and an egg hunt out in the back garden with a few bottles of wine.

Chohlin654 · 08/04/2022 20:39

We do.
Roman Catholic family so it is a bigger celebration than Christmas.

saggyhairyass · 08/04/2022 20:49

No, because I work shifts and quite often a duty will land on a Bank Holiday and besides, I'm not religious.

Cakeonthefloor · 08/04/2022 20:52

Egg rolling and a picnic lunch, followed by Easter egg hunt. Whole extended family come.

Ifailed · 08/04/2022 20:55

No, and I've never met anyone who does, other than people who say they do on here.
