Breaking Bad question - don’t read if you haven’t watched!

Late to the party as ever and have recently been watching this. I’m on series 3 now.

What was the bit all about where all those villagers were dragging themselves on their stomachs towards that shed thing? Why on their stomachs?

And what was the altar all about? Were they worshipping Heisenberg or damning him?

And why did the twins turn up at the village (same one? Different one?) on another occasion and donate their car keys to the goat?! Didn’t get that bit at all!

It was to show their dedication and submission to Santa Muerte. Very weird though!

Yahyahs22 · 08/04/2022 12:35

Damming him. And I can't remember the last bit you mentioned at all! It was a long time ago I watched it

Nailest · 08/04/2022 12:41

Thank you @Yahyahs22. The bit with the goat was later on in the same episode. The twins turned up at a village, took their clothes off, left their car keys on the goat’s horn and walked off!

I didn’t get why they were on their stomachs at all! But I thought there was an interesting parallel when the surviving twin lost his legs, threw himself out of his hospital bed and started dragging himself on his stomach towards the door.

The twins are great!

The stomach dragging is a religious ritual. The twins left it till the last minute because they see themselves as more powerful/important than the villagers, so they don't need to debase themselves as much to achieve the same effect.

I assume they abandoned their car and clothes because they are travelling incognito and want to keep the DEA off their scent as much as possible.

When you've finished BB, watch Better Call Saul! It's just as good.

SantanaBinLorry · 08/04/2022 12:47

Me and my other half have been debating wether its been long enough since we watched BB to watch it again.
I can not remember ANY of those scenes AT ALL Grin
Reckon its time for a re-run.

I completely missed this. Good spot!

The crawling is to show respect.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/04/2022 12:48

I have watched it 3 times, I could easily watch it again Grin

Ah, my thoughts too. It's been a couple of years since we introduced dc1 to BB, can't wait to introduce dc2 next 😁
Eagerly awaiting the next Better Call Saul too!

thesunwillout · 08/04/2022 12:54

Better call Saul is back season 6 mid April. 2 episodes, then more in July.

A must watch after BB. It's so so good

I've bloody loved BB and am so jealous of anyone starting it.

Chananigan · 08/04/2022 13:02

@SantanaBinLorry

I just unintentionally watched it all again after a few years as our eldest DD was finally old enough to watch it..I ended up watching it with her and I enjoyed it more than the first time!

Chananigan · 08/04/2022 13:03

Oh and now we're rewatching Saul again with her 😅

SantanaBinLorry · 08/04/2022 13:14

Saul is great.
Ours are still a bit young to watch with us yet, 11 and nearly 13.
These are defo two shows I can't wait for them to see.

Fitterbyfifty · 08/04/2022 13:16

I can't remember these scenes either!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2022 13:53

We're frantically binge-watching the whole of BCS from the start, in time for the next one. Got about 8 episodes to go...

LittleDidSheKnow · 08/04/2022 14:02

I remember that scene and just presumed that that action was part of a religious ritual attached to a certain festival, or something; though I guess there'd also have been some deeper significance within the storyline which will have gone right over my head

I have forgotten so much of BB except for the fact that I loved it... must rewatch!

pippinsleftleg · 08/04/2022 14:18

El Camino’s good to asa bit of story wrap up

peanutpancakes · 08/04/2022 14:21

Love Breaking Bad and have watched it several times.
Definitely worth a rewatch for anyone who has only seen it once!

I literally saw that advertised on Netflix right after I posted my comment!

Nailest · 08/04/2022 16:28

Thank you very much for the further replies :)

I’m so glad to hear there’s a series based on Saul, he’s brilliant! I like Mike too - part-time grandpa, part-time ruthless assassin!

Nailest · 08/04/2022 16:30

The twins were shaping up promisingly I thought - fully expected them to be long running characters so was a bit surprised when all that early promise was so easily snuffed out by Hank!

They had great parts though - high profile with next to no lines to learn!

lapasion · 08/04/2022 16:52

I think in that scene they are praying to the unofficial saint of traffickers, Jesus Malverde. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesús_Malverde

Definitely watch Better Call Saul once you’re done. Ozark also has similar themes to BB, but more on the money laundering side. The first couple of seasons of Narcos are great too if you’re not completely bored of drugs by that point! I got really into reading about Pablo Escobar for a couple of months after seeing the show.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2022 17:15

Oh, if you want to see more of Mike you'll love Better Call Saul 😍

Tried Ozark but couldn't get into it, unfortunately.
