I need to stay away from Twitter but lots of analysts suggesting this today and I'm feeling pretty sick

SaltyLemons · 05/04/2022 18:51

Sorry that should be or not of

fijicava · 05/04/2022 18:59

No. Let’s not scaremonger, there have been too many posts like this on here.

Bluetowelsandflannels · 05/04/2022 19:00

What's different today compared to the last atrocious 6 weeks?

Scbchl · 05/04/2022 19:01

It wouldn't of happened by now if it was going to the reason it hasn't is because no other countries want to be in a war.

GinIronic · 05/04/2022 19:02

No.

SaltyLemons · 05/04/2022 19:03

Sorry that's not my intention at all, to scaremonger. I'm just posting out of panic myself.

Well what's changed is there's been evidence of an atrocious massacre of civilians and a ramping up of escalatory language. And, you know, a changing world order. But I am definitely obsessing about worst case scenarios

Thank god someone finally has asked this question on Mumsnet.

Oh no, it’s the 100th, minimum.

No.

Jovanka · 05/04/2022 19:04

What do you want people to say to a question like that OP? Do you honestly think anyone on MN knows the answer?

Anna197264 · 05/04/2022 19:04

I don’t think so & im prone to anxiety. I read the headlines but I’m not scouring online for answers that I can’t find which is what I’ve previously done in the past. I don’t believe there is the appetite from other countries to get drawn into this.
I am however horrified by what’s happening in Ukraine. It’s absolutely awful.

SaltyLemons · 05/04/2022 19:04

Well I'm glad I posted cos you are all calming me down :-) seriously

I'm really, really fed up with seeing the word "scaremongering" used to shut down discussion of anything unpalatable.

FWIW, I don't think there is going to be a world war - not even close. But there are plenty of perfectly sensible, educated, thinking people who do, and plenty of perfectly normal and decent people who are worried about it. They're allowed to raise a conversation about it.

Same goes for Covid/climate crisis/any other current affairs issue on which opinions are varied and some people are worried. It's not "scaremongering", it's people having a conversation.

Yes this is me, I'm looking for answers

Thanks @Greensleeves , I agree

OP posts:
Jovanka · 05/04/2022 19:07

You won’t find the answers you are looking for on MN. None of us has a crystal ball. None of us can predict the future any more than you can.

Anna197264 · 05/04/2022 19:10

@SaltyLemons I’ve absolutely been there myself so completely get it. It’s all consuming & exhausting. As hard as it is try to step away from the media & keep busy with other things if you can.

user1471453601 · 05/04/2022 19:13

If russia, or any state, attempted to occupy any NATO country, then NATO would respond. The UK is part of NATO, so yes, we could be involved. Would russia be daft enough to attack a NATO country? Who knows?

But realistically, a world war is so far outside my sphere of influence, I try not to worry. It's certainly within my sphere of concern, so I keep on top of what's happening, just on the off chance it enters into my sphere of influence.

SaltyLemons · 05/04/2022 19:15

That's actually a really useful way of thinking about in, in spheres. Thanks @user1471453601 - I'll try to think of this when I start to panic. It's horrible feeling out of control

Thanks @Thedogissnoringagain - I fully agree. It's not true that what is happening isn't effecting us or that it won't or that, either way, we should shut our eyes to it. Because it's bloody awful, the world isn't the place it was before. Humanity isn't what I thought it was before. And a selfish part of me is frightened for the future of my children and what that future might look like

No.

Stop it.

Maybe support the institutions can can pursue war crimes charges against Putin?

kyiv · 05/04/2022 19:31

No.

There's no benefit for anyone in this. No nation will benefit from a global war

Livelovebehappy · 05/04/2022 19:31

I’ve been there too OP. But my anxiety was worse at the start of it all. The anxiety made me ill, but I’ve calmed down a lot now, and tend to think if it was going to happen, it would have happened already. I doubt anyone is going to put us in a position of war, other than Putin, but even then I don’t think he wants to get into one with the rest of Europe if he can help it.

Stop what?!? Discussing current affairs on a public discussion forum?

It would be great if one of you could explain what exactly OP is doing wrong by raising this, if she is worried about it and wants the opinions of others. Is it that you think she should suppress her feelings in order to protect you from having to think about it? How selfish.

Discussion is fine - to be encouraged. Thread titles that include the phrase 'World War 3' - not so much.
