It was boiled egg, cooked ham and coleslaw with extra onion. It was accompanied by Tayto cheese & onion crisps and a large mug of tea.

It was great.GrinBrew

That sounds AMAZING!!! That would be an ideal lunch for me - even better if it were cheese coleslaw! Yummy!

LadyLolaRuben · 02/04/2022 23:10

Was it on white bread? Yum!

That sounds delicious! Right up my street.
I want one now! 😍

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/04/2022 23:28

Really fresh, soft, wholemeal bread @LadyLolaRuben. All on one slice. Folded, not cut.

So fresh it folded without even breaking around the edges...perfect!
Undertheoldlindentree · 02/04/2022 23:51

Glad you enjoyed it. Sounds a little oniony for me but any type of sandwich with crisps and a large mug of tea is a good start!

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/04/2022 23:59

@Undertheoldlindentree, as I've got older, my desire for uncooked onions has increased to the extent that I have a bag of shallots beside my salt and pepper.Blush

I've also developed a love of cabbage and am Sprout Curious.Confused

For lunch I had light and airy baguette from local market, stuffed with red pepper humous, a sprinkle of grated extra mature cheddar, and some salad leaves. My mug of tea wasn't quite big enough to accompany both that and the handful of little Italian chocolate filled biscuits I tucked onto the side of the plate. Oh the disappointment when dunking had to give way to dry biscuit.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/04/2022 00:02

Ah it was @LadyLolaRuben. The middle bit was all full and soft and tasty and a bit crunchy from the coleslaw.

That sounds amazing. I pity those who have such a limited palate.

@TooBigForMyBoots

I absolutely love onions - always have. Have you ever had Vidalia onions? They’re grown in Vidalia, Georgia, USA. Mild (as in not hot) & sweet & very oniony. Sooo good.
Or sweet red onions with cooked fresh string beans? Oh my. 😋

Grasping · 03/04/2022 03:25

…. came over a bit weird.

avamiah · 03/04/2022 03:44

My favourite sandwich that I make at home is thin sliced ham with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise instead of butter and a spoonful of coleslaw on white bread.
And a can of cold Diet Coke

Perfect

Raw sprouts are fantastic Star

ISpyCobraKai · 03/04/2022 03:50

Earlier I had a ham and pease pudding sandwich.
I cooked the ham and the pease pudding was homemade.
I can't get stotties where I live so it was just on bread but still, it was bloody delicious 😋

Tezza1 · 03/04/2022 04:03

@TooBigForMyBoots "am Sprout Curious." Back in the 80s when I was a young gel/tourist – from Sydney – and spent a fair bit of time in the UK, I used to love mustard and cress sprouts which appeared on every second pub meal. They have never been a thing here in Australia. Other sprouts, but not mustard and cress.

I was only reminded of this because I am having a major clear out and just found a packet of seeds of each which I must've bought over a decade ago to sprout, and never got around to it.

Are they still popular in the UK?

echt · 03/04/2022 06:09

If it was folded over, it was a butty, not a sandwich, but then I'm from t'North.

Another in Australia. I was in Coles just now and saw Tayto crisps in the international section, but instead stocked up on mushy and marrowfat peas.

God, I love onions, raw and cooked. Always have red and brown onions as well as shallots. Spring onions in the veggie patch.

SalsaLove · 03/04/2022 06:16

Yesterday I made a sandwich, my absolute favourite, with wafer thin ham, emmental cheese, gherkin and mustard. Divine!!

itsgettingweird · 03/04/2022 06:19

I love egg ham and red onion in a nice fresh white roll!

Would t fancy coleslaw in that combination though!

Ha,ha, no...that's where I'm going wrong. Going to go through the mug cupboard today and bring all the big ones to the fore!
pollyglot · 03/04/2022 07:19

I had very thin Vogel's bread (fresh and nutty and yummy), with avocado, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. Followed by some roasted figs straight off my own tree, cooked with brown sugar and cinnamon, with hokey pokey ice cream. Inner woman satisfied.
