It was boiled egg, cooked ham and coleslaw with extra onion. It was accompanied by Tayto cheese & onion crisps and a large mug of tea.

It was great.GrinBrew

That sounds very good op! I love onions too, and my guilty pleasure when alone post Sunday lunch, is an onion gravy and onion sandwich . Soft caramelised onions in the gravy, crunchy raw onions, melting butter and soft white bread. Oh yes.

Decemberly · 03/04/2022 14:28

OP you’re such an influencer - I read about your sandwich in the early hours and went to sleep happy. Currently having one for lunch, with the addition of cheese and tomato. Sadly missing the Taytos though (NI version).

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 03/04/2022 15:17

I’m having a brioche roll, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, emmenthal cheese. And a bowl of petits pois soup. Just lovely!

That sounds nice, OP, I'm going to try that!

My all time favourite sandwiches are:

Poached egg and chives
Roast lamb, lettuce, red onion, salt, pepper and mayo
Roast chicken with roast sweet potato, lettuce, salt, pepper and mayo
Asparagus rolls
Kiwi club - three slices of bread, with ham, mashed boiled egg, tomato and lettuce.

Sandwiches for lunch tomorrow, me thinks. . .

I had the very same sandwich for supper the other week. Bliss. I need to be arses enough to boil some eggs. They're fab for sandwiches and snacks. Dh will boil some for me though if I ask. He does most of the cooking. Having sesame salmon with broccoli and tomatoes tonight. Trying to be healthy.

Juniper68 · 03/04/2022 16:50

Arsed*

FourChimneys · 03/04/2022 16:51

Given the cost of heating and cooking I think sandwiches should be eaten more.

Every now and then I make what used to be a childhood treat back in the 60s. Mashed banana with a sprinkling of brown sugar and cinnamon. Has to be brown bread though.

Laiste · 03/04/2022 17:16

Ooooh d'y know what - i've got a sudden urge for a corned beef sandwich. Fresh white bread, lots of real butter and a blob of brown pickle to dip in into.

Corned beef is so darn expensive now though there's no hope :(

MySausageRollsDownTheHill · 03/04/2022 17:18

Ham and beef paste and tomato on lovely white bread I know I am a MN outsider for white bread

RedElephants · 03/04/2022 17:33

Think I saw this on Facebook on the 1st April!!!

But these would be awesome with Laughing Cow Lights and Sandwich Spread...Grin

@RedElephants Sandwich spread! !!! Shock

Lord i haven't had any of that since about 1985 in my school packed lunch!

I used to love it :)

Laiste · 03/04/2022 17:48

And my crisp sandwich of choice is beef on white.

RedElephants · 03/04/2022 17:51

Laiste
I love it..... 😆

My favourite choice of sandwich filler Grin

Laiste · 03/04/2022 18:02

Just a couple of week ago i was trying to describe it to a friend. I couldn't remember what it was called (duh!) and my ''sort of slimy, but with knobbly bits of salady stuff like coleslaw and tangy but yummy'' didn't help at all! GrinGrin

RedElephants · 03/04/2022 18:09

Lol.. love be it

I had corned beef, Branstons pickle and lettuce on seeded brown bread yesterday. Glorious.

It was all sounding great op until the tea. I love tea but under no circumstances can I drink it with savoury food. Actually I can have it with one biscuit but other than that I don’t like it with food. Tea is a stand alone drink in my opinion.

Also can’t fold bread. I’m a stickler for small sandwiches (either triangles or fingers but never squares) but must have clean lines cut with a knife!

guffaux · 03/04/2022 19:17

boiled egg with cress and mayonnaise on hovis tin loaf --favourite childhood sandwich, usually eaten at the seaside

tinned red salmon on the freshest of fresh white crusty farmhouse bread with real butter and a tiny sprinkling of sea salt- favourite teenage sandwich

cornish cruncher with hot tomato chutney, on sourdough or good wholemeal bread- current favourite- if there's no chutney, will have the plain cheese sandwich eaten with a crisp cold red apple mmmm

newidentiy · 03/04/2022 19:25

Oh no didn't realise bread shape crisps was April fools. I thought good idea and have been looking Blush

enjoyingscience · 03/04/2022 19:26

I had a mature cheddar and fancy pickled onion sandwich and it was bloody lovely.

Pickled onions are my favourite thing, and these are the nicest - red onion in blueberry vinegar. www.ocado.com/products/garners-pickled-red-onions-in-blueberry-vinegar-552609011?gclid=CjwKCAjwi6WSBhA-EiwA6Niok4foxECfa-NVrCtwL1hmoWQSq_9hNqVmgAQjStcGiaJU2eXnCHs6lxoC6FAQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

My favourites are Ham, sliced hard cheese and coleslaw on toasted white bread. Or, Chicken, hot bacon, sliced boiled egg, cucumber and onion on soft white bread. It was a pregnancy craving that I continue to eat 8 years later.
