Other than the pill do you take anything to stop your periods?
Any side effects?
I've heard good stuff about the coil?

The Mirena coil stopped my periods almost immediately & I haven't had one since. I've found it problem free but I know a lot of people have difficulties with it.

uggmum · 01/04/2022 16:57

I had the mirena fitted for this reason.
Battled years of infertility and my periods were awful.
So I had one fitted to stop them altogether and this been really successful for me, especially emotionally

emmathedilemma · 01/04/2022 16:58

I may not be the best person to ask but I have tried:
Combined pill - gave me a migraine after 3 weeks so had to stop taking it.
Mirena - made me bleed even heavier and gave me period pains like I’d never had before (had days off work it was so bad). Spotting in between periods too. Eventually it bled itself out with some meaty clots.
Mini pill: I bled for 11 weeks before I decided enough was enough!
Declined to try the injection based on experiences above!

Mirena here too. I was at the gynae consultation for sterilisation and she convinced me to try it. Life changer. Bleeding had been constant and it tapered off over about 3 months to nothing.

heidbuttsupper · 01/04/2022 17:13

I use Sayana, self inject every 3 months. No complaints

Gladioli23 · 01/04/2022 17:16

I run together packs of the combined pill so have one every 3 ish months. It works for me :)

LittleDidSheKnow · 01/04/2022 17:20

Mirena. Sheer period- and side effect-free bliss.

(For me, anyway!)

TDCtomorrow · 01/04/2022 20:23

I've used the pill to stop periods for years. Had the merena coil for a bit after having DD but bleeding was u predictable so back on the pill now. Just about to swap to mini pill because I'm almost 50 though and Go is happier if take that

JemimaTiggywinkle · 01/04/2022 20:27

The implant stops periods for some people, but not everyone.
It made me bleed for 2 weeks when I first had it so they prescribed the pill as well for 3 months. Apparently when I finish the pill after 3 months the bleeding won’t come back…. We’ll see!

mumonthehill · 01/04/2022 20:34

I have the injection, have done for quite a few years and it has been life changing. No pmt, no awful spots and no heavy bleeding. I have no periods at all and have injection every 3 months. I have had all my children now so am not concerned about fertility anymore.

Reluctantadult · 01/04/2022 20:35

Yep, mirena coil 👍

Zazdar · 01/04/2022 20:41

The depo stopped mine. Mirena didn’t and had unwanted side effects. Implant didn’t.

Afewgoodpens · 01/04/2022 21:46

The mirena coil.
Took about 6 months to get used to it but worth it

Perpetualstateofchaos · 01/04/2022 22:06

Sayan press here too self inject and no problems. I've been on it 3 years to try help control endo, it's not fully worked but that's very unusual according to my consultant but I've always been awkward.

TibetanTerrah · 01/04/2022 22:08

I've been on the depo for years, but they won't give it to me 'to stop periods' so at times I've had to pretend I have a boyfriend, make up a name, and remember what the made up name was 12 weeks later Hmm

SimpleShootingWeekend · 01/04/2022 22:09

Mirena took the edge off for me. I used to run the combined pill together but my GP wouldn’t prescribe it past 40. I had an ablation after about 2 years on the mirena but that’s obviously irreversible.

tilder · 01/04/2022 22:14

Merina. Loathe the fitting. Love the freedom.

I know it doesn't suit everyone. But then the pill doesn't suit me. Different thing for different people.

OrlandointheWilderness · 01/04/2022 22:40

Rigvidon here. Run packs together and occasionally get a bit of light bleeding but nothing even noticeable. It's been incredible.

hm1610 · 01/04/2022 22:51

I've had the implanon then it was replaced with nexplanon and never had period with either. Everyone is different though. Didn't experience issues with either.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/04/2022 22:56

Mini pill. I've been on it for 8 years and haven't had a period in that time.

Lucimaya · 01/04/2022 22:58

The mini pill, Cerelle, which has only Progestogen and the side effects (so they say) are meant to be less compared to the combined pill. No periods whatsoever. Heaven.

GCAcademic · 01/04/2022 22:59

I've been taking the mini pill for three months now and have bled virtually every day (though nothing like the monstrous flooding I used to get before). Planning to persevere for another couple of months and then make a decision re. daily light bleeding vs period that confines me to the house for three days a month.

garlictwist · 01/04/2022 23:02

I just take the pill every day and never have the break so I don't get a period.

AllLopsided · 01/04/2022 23:10

Combined pill with no breaks unless I got a lot of breakthrough bleeding. Then 3x surgery for endometriosis and 12 years on GnRH agonists (a bit extreme I know, but it works).

gogohm · 01/04/2022 23:13

Mirena coil here, period's virtually stopped. Dd has implant, no periods
