If you wear glasses all day every day, how often do you get a new pair?

As above. My current pair are at least 2 years old and need replacing and I'm wondering if I treat my glasses terribly but they're either on my face or by my bed.

If my prescription changes I get a new set so usually every 12-24 months depending on my sight. Even if no or minimal change after 2 years I’ll get new ones for a change and generally they start to look a bit worse for wear at the 2 year point

Applecottage1234 · 01/04/2022 16:02

Every 3 years

Some times if I love my frames and they are in good Nick- I just have the lenses changed

HorribleHerstory · 01/04/2022 16:03

Judging by old pics I think my current ones are around 8 years old

That’s prob not great.

Eugh I don't know how I do mine in so badly honestly.

I bought mine about 2 years 2 months ago, with guaranteed anti scratch lenses. Got the lenses replaced under guarantee 15 months in and they are scratched again already, and the plastic is starting to change colour too.

I have an optician's appointment in May so hoping to keep them going til then!

Mine are similarly on my face or by my bed - I am wondering if it's cycling/gym etc that is doing them in and thinking of keeping this pair for everything like that for the next one in case that helps?

I haven't ever had a single prescription for long enough to have this problem until now.

pannikin · 01/04/2022 16:08

Every 2-3 years. I have to say since I started buying better quality ones (ie not just cheapest available) mine have lasted a lot better. What do you have? I used to just get the most basic, cheap ones but I currently have Karen Millen - had these for 18 months and not a scratch on the actual frame itself, I don't keep them in a case on an night either (just chuck them on the bedside table)

SatinHeart · 01/04/2022 16:09

My prescription is very stable but I find the frames (I generally have plastic) start to degrade after about 2 years, the longest I've managed to keep a pair is 4 years I think.

FionnulaTheCooler · 01/04/2022 16:10

Mine are the same, OP. I last had my eyes tested and got them just before the first lockdown 2 years ago, and the frames are falling to bits, I'm getting my eyes tested again next week and I'm going to need to order new ones whether my prescription has changed or not.

WithFlamingLocksOfAuburnHair · 01/04/2022 16:12

I like to have two pairs on the go. The recent ones I splashed out on some expensive frames that I love. And because they were expensive I am taking very good care of them, clean every day by running under tap to remove gritty bits, cleaning with washing up liquid, rinsing and drying with a clean cloth. Not a scratch, they are staying perfect. My old way of not cleaning them and then rubbing them with a cloth to try to clean was clearly scratching the lenses by rubbing dirt across the lenses. So that has made a massive difference.

Gilly12345 · 01/04/2022 16:29

I buy new glasses every 3-4 years and have 2 pairs.

I wear glasses everyday.

I also have 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses for driving etc.

mumda · 01/04/2022 16:33

About every two years.
When I was a kid it was every year.

123tigger · 01/04/2022 16:39

When ever the prescription changes. Pair wearing had 3 years just had eyes tested no change. So keeping with same frames for now. Last time it was £800.00 for glasses.

husbandcallsmepickle · 01/04/2022 16:43

I wear contact lenses most of the time so only wear my glasses am/pm and some weekends. My glasses are 10 years old.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/04/2022 16:44

When my prescription changes. Generally every 2 years.

Madre123 · 01/04/2022 16:45

Usually at each eye appointment....yearly if I am fed up of my current glasses and fancy a change

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 01/04/2022 16:45

My prescription changes every two years so I normally get new frames then. Can’t say I take particularly good care of them though!

BlueChampagne · 01/04/2022 16:46

DS1 wears glasses every day and gets new ones annually, usually because he has grown and/or his prescription has changed. DH also wears glasses all the time and gets new lenses put in old frames whenever his prescription changes (2-3 years?).

I only wear mine for driving and a pair lasted me 10 years till my prescription changed.

It doesn't sound like you treat them terribly!

emmathedilemma · 01/04/2022 16:55

I get my eyes tested every 2 years so often replace them then. My last pair went 4 years as my prescription hadn’t changed and I couldn’t find any I liked. The frames were still fine but the lenses were really marked when I changed them.

tigger1001 · 01/04/2022 16:56

Generally every two years as my prescription has usually changed. Just bought new ones and as now I have varifocal lenses they better last ! So expensive

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2022 16:58

When my prescription changes, so every couple of years or more if I can get away with it. I have two pairs of varifocals, one with distance and one without for work and together with my high prescription they are very expensive.

PinkBuffalo · 01/04/2022 16:59

I have had mine years. Glasses that I find comfy are expensive I cannot afford to keep replacing them. I wear them all day every day cannot see a thing without them

Maybeitstimeforachange · 01/04/2022 16:59

About every 5 years.

KupoNutCoffee · 01/04/2022 17:03

About every 2/3. I tend to end up with thin metal frames, so the paint wears off on the arms and they get bent out and back in shape so many times, they start to look lopsided.

I have contacts now, but not wearing them everyday, so glasses will be replaced but probably last 4 years.

Some people might find it nice to change style. I get the idea I will, but end up getting pretty much identical everytime....

Normally my prescription has changed so.

Kitfish · 01/04/2022 17:17

I've had mine for 6 years and they're still going strong.

Kite22 · 01/04/2022 17:18

After about 8 - 10 years unless prescription change forces it.

Manekinek0 · 01/04/2022 17:19

I buy cheap pairs online to wear everyday because I destroy them. I am clumsy and quite forgetful. I most recently broken a pair after I put them in my handbag, whilst in a shop, after they kept steaming up and then threw my car keys in there scratching the lens.
