If you wear glasses all day every day, how often do you get a new pair?

As above. My current pair are at least 2 years old and need replacing and I'm wondering if I treat my glasses terribly but they're either on my face or by my bed.

4-5 years. I’ve only got one pair but the lenses are so expensive I can’t afford, or begrudge, buying them more often. I wear them from the minuteI wake up to the minute I go to sleep.

hiredandsqueak · 01/04/2022 19:41

Every 18 months to two years when the prescription changes. My sight gets worse each time, I have complex lenses, thinned so it's expensive so wouldn't buy more outside prescription change. They are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night as I'm blind as a bat without them.

IsitFridayyet21 · 01/04/2022 19:44

Gosh, mine get replaced only if I need a new prescription - or if I get bored. Generally around 5 years +. Never any damage or wear and tear to them. That said, with two young children they are getting knocked a lot more now. I have a feeling they will break one of these days! I wear them every day.

Every 2 years. My glasses are on my face or by the bed (apart from when I'm cycling or swimming as I have special cycling glasses and prescription goggles) and I always need a new prescription anyway

latriciamcneal · 01/04/2022 19:58

Two new pairs each eye test, when my eyes have always declined. I have one for out, one for home, but I also always have my last surviving pair as my bed pair that I can fall asleep in and it won't matter if they were broken.

You could get a cheap £20 pair for this and two nice ones. That should do. I then get daily contacts offline for out out.

Until the frames break...I always get a frame I really like, then just reglaze when my prescription changes.

Blimecory · 01/04/2022 20:21

How easy is it to get frames re-glazed? Do all opticians do this?

Futuroute · 01/04/2022 20:23

In theory they should, but it can depend on the age/condition of the frames. Pop in with the frames and ask.
Thursa · 01/04/2022 20:26

Probably about 10 years.

Sleepyblueocean · 01/04/2022 20:37

I get 2 identical pairs every 2 years when I have my eye test. My prescription always changes. My lenses especially now they are varifocals are by far the most expensive part of the glasses.

lochmaree · 01/04/2022 21:00

every 12-24 months when my prescription changes. but I've had the same frames (ie same brand and style) for maybe 6 or 8 years as I love it so much (a plastic purple Converse one). they've discontinued it now very sadly! so this time I've had the lens changed instead. I normally get the 2 for 1 deal on designer glasses at specsavers. but couldn't find any I like as much as these so it's £95 just to have lens changed. but I'm also going to trial contacts in the though that maybe I'll get cheaper glasses and use contacts when I want to look nicer.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/04/2022 21:02

My last ones were at least 12 years old, but the lenses are changed whenever my sight changes of course (has generally been every two years).

Overtheroadroundthecorner · 01/04/2022 21:03

Every 2 years whether my prescription has changed or not, I’m bored after 2 years.

imamumgetmeoutofhere · 01/04/2022 21:06

I have one pair that lasts me the full year between my sight tests

CaMePlaitPas · 01/04/2022 21:17

Mine are 4 years old and are tatty, discoloured and the nose pads have fallen off. I use them to drive and use them to see things that a far away, I barely use them otherwise so God alone knows how they've become such a state. I will be making an appointment shortly!

purpleme12 · 01/04/2022 21:20

Every 2 years
Because it's always every 2 years I need a new prescription
So that's when I get glasses too

KittyBurrito · 01/04/2022 21:21

I've had mine 6 years, can't afford to change them

mickeypillow · 01/04/2022 21:24

2 years when I have had an eye test. My sight changes all the time so they are needed. -11 in both eyes.

stimpyyouidiot · 01/04/2022 21:25

Every couple of years unless I sit on them or fancy some new ones!

RuthW · 01/04/2022 21:34

Every two years I get 6 pairs.

RuthW · 01/04/2022 21:37

Forgot to say they are my guilty pleasure and I have different pairs to match outfits. I don't spend my money on drinking, smoking or holidays hut choose to spend it on glasses.

purpleme12 · 01/04/2022 21:41

God even if I had the money
I wouldn't be able to find 6 glasses that suited me that are the the right size for my face! (Really small)

I need new glasses cos I've got a new prescription. All the ones in the shop were too big for my face

LaWench · 01/04/2022 21:45

I get a new pair every year as I have £200 annual allowance with my works health cash plan. Use it or lose it. Although I do generally use the same old pair.

Flossflower · 01/04/2022 21:54

I wear glasses for reading and close work. I buy cheap glasses from Specsavers, always on the 2 for 1 offer. I usually go through about 4 pairs a year. I wear them on the top of my head when I am not using them and this stretches the sides outwards. I know I shouldn't do this but I still do.

TeenTraumaTrials · 01/04/2022 22:08

Usually every 2 years but I've had my current pair for 4 as I couldn't bring myself to try and find new ones while wearing a mask as I have real difficulty finding a pair that have the right fit and it's really stressful. They are really looking a bit tatty now.
