What is your new electricity unit price?

chanceux · 01/04/2022 11:50

Just wondering what people pay around the country for electric, now that the prices have increased.

I now pay 31.06p per unit plus 47.28p standing charge per day.

My supplier is Eon Next, I was transferred to them last year when Symbio went bust.

I am in Sussex.

Unit price - 19.80 per kWh
Standing charge - 24.86 a day

We got offered a fixed deal last week and that’s our price for the next 2 years.

Whitefire · 03/04/2022 09:25

Electric 48.91p standing charge. 27.09p kWh

Gas 27.22p standing charge. 7.225p kWh

That's Scottish power

Crunchymum · 03/04/2022 09:35

I'm with Shell (London)

Electricity: 29.63p per kWh standing charge 32.14p per day
Gas: 7.51p per per kWh standing charge 27.22p per day

What company is this with?
Took · 03/04/2022 09:40

@Crunchymum I’m with Octopus.
I phoned up and said I'm poor and disabled (true!) and really couldn’t afford the price rise and I got offered that fixed price deal.

WelshyMaud · 03/04/2022 09:43

27.59p per unit and 24.56p standing charge. We fixed just before the new price cap was announced for 12m.

We're on variable for gas so I'm glad we have at least some certainty tbh.

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 03/04/2022 09:44

@Took that's... unbelievably cheap, who are you fixed with? Are you in UK? We are paying

Gas 11.22p per kWh and 27.49p standing
Elec 39.5p per kWh and 45.5p standing

Definitely not "cheap" but we fixed end of Feb with Ovo (as had a real bargain rate before that I didn't want to opt out of) and it's for 2 years so gives us some protection. We won't use much over the next 6 months so gives us chance to see what happens with the price cap, and we can always opt out (for £60) if things have improved.

Took · 03/04/2022 09:50

@BottlingBurpsForGrandma Yes, I’m in the uk. I’m with Octopus. Their website said to call them if you were struggling with your energy bills so I did!

autumnboys · 03/04/2022 09:52

Octopus in Essex. They’re offering a fixed rate for 10 months, but it’s an extra £80 a month, which I think is how much ours will go up by in October anyway, so no point paying it in advance.

I'm glad they were able to help.

Did they ask for any proof?

My DC3 is disabled (high rate DLA). She has a rare genetic condition and one of her issues is temperature regulation. Means we need heating on until temperatures outside are genuinely mild and air con in hot weather.

I'm wondering if there would be any help available to us. I mean we can just about absorb the price rise at present but when it all increases again in October (when we will be consuming more power) then we we'll be in trouble.

I'm so angry that there is no real government help in place to assist those with disabilities / the elderly / the most vulnerable. Surely they should be doing something more?

Took · 03/04/2022 10:02

@Crunchymum No, no proof asked for. I was speaking to a manager (as no-one could answer a question I had) and he was able to offer a better deal than the people that normally answer the calls. I just explained my situation and he was very understanding and willing to help.

As for everything else you’ve said - 100% agree! How bad will it have to get before something's done?!

Ilostit · 03/04/2022 10:03

This is all making me so very angry. I’m writing to my MP. Bloody Tory though he doesn’t give a shit

nannapat58 · 03/04/2022 10:13

Electric 26.83 kW daily charge 22.66
Gas 5.38kw n 24.53 daily charge british gas

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 03/04/2022 10:21

@Took that's great that they could help. I will let my friend on DLA know.

Blogblogblogblog · 03/04/2022 10:21

Why should all these prices be so different?
Scarily Octopus say the 10m fixed they say is the most popular choice (after our 12m contract in May ends) is:

Elec
Daily standing charge: 44.48
Unit rate: 37.57

Gas
Daily standing charge: 27.22
Unit rate:12.20

Our predicted bill will go up £3000 a year

averylongtimeago · 03/04/2022 11:31

I'm with EDF in France.
I pay 144.32€ standing charge per year, and am on "heures crueses" tariff - .1841€ on the peak rate and .1470€ from 02-07am and again from 13-1500pm.

The current exchange rate is 1.20€ /£ which makes a kWh unit cost of £0.1535.
Also, we have had two payments of 100€ paid automatically into the bank this winter to offset fuel costs and a .15cent subsidy on the cost of road fuel came in on April 1st. I paid 1.77€ (£1.475) on Friday for diesel.

The only reason France has lower prices and capped fuel costs is political will.
The French absolutely would riot in the streets if things were like they are in the U.K.
plus there is a presidential election

Octopus will have a LOT of customers who fixed for 2 years at roughly 20p for elec and 4p for gas in September. They’ve got to cover that somehow Hmm
Blogblogblogblog · 03/04/2022 20:32
Sad
Gufo · 03/04/2022 20:43

23.8p standing charge
36.7 kwh 🤢

Octopus Loyal 12month Fixed - hopefully this decision to fix pays off in October.

I'm doing daily readings to see how and what I can save (no smart meter) and making changes such as not using the tumble, checking all lightbulbs are led, meal planning to avoid using the oven, etc.

toomanychickens · 03/04/2022 20:59

I have been incredibly fortunate that Octopus renewed our Go tariff in Feb for another year so we're paying
5p kwh 0030-0430
14p kwh the rest of the day.
It's a tariff for EV charging.

LargeProsecco · 03/04/2022 21:14

Gas: standing charge of 26.43p a day
6.852p per kWh

Electricity: standing charge of 25.32/hr
daytime at 33.92 per kWh
Control 18.12 per kWh
Night 19.347 per kWh

It's a strange contract from Scottish power fixed till Feb 24 - the previous occupants of the flat I moved in to had an electric heating system & boiler.

But I've stuck with it as it's probably better than anything else out there.

Harridan1981 · 03/04/2022 21:21

Eon next:
Elec: 19.82, 24.11 standing charge
Gas: 3.96, 26.12 standing charge.

Fixed in Oct when bulb started looking dubious, felt like a leap as our blub rates were 17.84, 22.48 SC for elec and 3.26, 24.46 gas.

Ulysses · 03/04/2022 21:29

I fixed with Octopus last September after a young man came around our street selling it. I really had no idea what a win this would be.

hetty74 · 03/04/2022 21:32

In West Mids , also on a flexible Avro tariff with Octopus ,like autumnboys , yet our rates are 47.86p/day standing charge and 27.86p/kWh .

Why do rates vary region to region 😡 with the same supplier …
