My dad and I danced to "Do it in my twin bed" by the SNL cast. Was beautiful and don't regret one bit 💕

God, just choose something your dad will enjoy.

Stevie Wonder - Sunshine of my life

Yes, it's a cliche but it fits the bill perfectly. Not too slow and soppy.

Evvyjb · 31/03/2022 21:40

Ours was "now that we've found love" by Heavy D and the boyz.

Bloody adore my dad.

Fevertree · 31/03/2022 21:45

Isn't she lovely

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 31/03/2022 21:54

Is this a thing in the UK now?
I saw my dad pretending to be Mick Jagger at my mum's 50th years and years ago and that put me off involving him in anything dance-related ever again!

Wind beneath my wings

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/03/2022 22:13

@TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain My dad would do the same. And that's exactly what a dad should be doing, not poncing around to some naff shite with the 'right' lyrics.

This has to be a joke?!

I hate first dances, bad enough when it's the bride and groom but do we have to stand there watching mums and sons and dad's and daughters as well now. Blush

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 31/03/2022 22:23

I loved her first - Heartlands

Spaghag · 31/03/2022 22:28

Oh good god what fresh hell is this?

We had the first dance at our wedding, and then parents, bridesmaids etc were invited to join in next. Then everyone else pretty soon after.

emma1103 · 31/03/2022 22:47

I didnt have one,but considered it. The two songs i thought of were..

I loved her first- Heartland

I love my life- Robbie Williams. Not strictly a dad/daughter dance song, but to me, it was about loving the life my parents had given me.

Dogmum40 · 31/03/2022 22:55

I had enough embarrassment dancing with my husband let alone other family members but as other posters above mentioned Heartland “I loved her first”

Wowcherarestalkingme · 31/03/2022 22:58

The second song at our wedding (after the official first dance) was the song my mum and dad had as their first dance. Everyone was on the dance floor and I danced with my dad. Didn’t want to do a whole big thing but it meant a lot to him

rooinspace · 31/03/2022 23:01

This has been at all the weddings I’ve been to in Northern Ireland since the 90s - does it not normally happen in the rest of the UK?

Merlin16 · 31/03/2022 23:11

Me and my Dad danced to 'Isn't she lovely' by Stevie Wonder. It was released when I was a baby and my Dad chose it.

Emmaaa1990 · 01/04/2022 07:24

Thanks everyone! I've listened to so many and I too have thought about a song my dad loves or a song that we both listened to as I was growing up. Thanks!

God, I've just had a look at those Heartland song lyrics. Unsurprisingly from the title, it's all about ownership isn't it. She was mine and now I'm letting you have her. Gross.

astonvanilla · 01/04/2022 08:05

Daddy cool by Boney M was ours!

RodiganReed · 01/04/2022 08:13

Oh good god what fresh hell is this?

Took the words right out of my mouth, except I'd also add in 'misogynistic'

I used to work in the wedding industry and also think that song is grim. The name of song sums the whole thing up: just very possessive. It is a popular song though…
